Summary: A nice sampling of Bond
Review: While I appreciate the zeal and critical thought by those evaluating this set, most comments seem to be a bit nit-picky. First and foremost, this is Bond, on DVD, back from limbo, and that in and of itself is an inherently good thing. As for the packaging, there's no way all 18 in the series can be put in an affordable set (unless your name is Rockefeller), so of course this is an incomplete selection. Plus, why should MGM/UA/WB assemble one "good" set (Goldfinger, OHMSS, etc.), one set of also rans, and one set of crap? Doesn't make sense if you think about it. Including both Brosnan films is a no-brainer: more have seen those than any other (TND is the most successful in the series) and the set can be marketed to the same people that'll be seeing the TWINE. (I knew taking marketing in college would come in handy!)

That being said, we have a few undisputed classics, and a few of the others. Then again, aside from "Goldfinger", each of these is up for debate as to their ranking in the series. A lot of people love FYEI, but I know one person who absolutely will not watch it because the music is bad (his opinion, not mine). I tend to find LTK ponderous (I don't feel the same about TB like some do), misguided in its attempts at realism and humor (Wayne Newton?!), and the whole thing seems like an extended Miami Vice episode. Its not a bad movie, but not my idea of Bond. When people are trying to blow up the world, drug dealers seem like small potatoes.

Overall, I say go for this set. Nice sampling.

Summary: Don't be disappointed by the selection!!
Review: First of all, this gift set rules. This gift set is a perfect present for the 007 fan. Second, I saw in the reviews that some people are annoyed that there are "only" 7 RANDOM movies in the gift set. Don't be angry! MGM is planning to release all the 18 (excluding TWINE) Bond movies in three (3) waves. The first one is this gift set. The other two will be released in the spring of 2000 and in the fall of 2000. So just keep your shirt on. =)

Summary: You like James Bond Gimmick's, you wont like this.
Review: What on earth possesed the makers to present a boxed set in this order, no consistancy or method in this madness. You have all the glory of Bond but why o why not start with the magnificent Dr. No. I personally think that this boxed set has missed a highly profitable marketing strategy here by offering this mis-match of the master spy. I would wait in hope that some-one sees sense and produces a boxed set in order of time, and not order of some meglomaniac Bond villian.

Other than that if you are a Bond die hard (sorry) then these are for you, in all there glory, however at a price!!.

Summary: Interesting mix of the Good, the Bad, and the Mediocre
Review: In my opinion, DVD may as well have been invented just so the James Bond films could enjoy their absolute best presentation in home theater.

What's cool about this initial and eclectic mix is that, given the supplemental materials and director's commentaries, even the bad 007 movies become *interesting* again; I'll be fascinated to hear just what was going through Guy Hamilton's head when he directed LALD. If everybody is going to be honest in their commentaries, TMWTGG, DAF, MR, and AVTAK will also become essential viewing for the Bond scholar. On the plus side, we also get the classic GF, TB, FYEO, and LTK, which would have been cool enough even in a movie-only version.

Early reviews on the discs themselves have ranged from "very good" to "spectacular." Thanks, MGM, for doing 007 on DVD the right way! I can't wait for sets 2 and 3 (OHMSS, FRWL, DN, TLD, hoo hah!)

Summary: Bond Par Excellence!!!
Review: I've read the tech specs for all 7 DVD's, and they are full of stuff that will appease even the most hardcore Bond fan, like many of us are. All movies are being shown in what I believe are their original aspect ratios. Although I would have also liked to see the Bonds in order, the selection is more than decent, for it gives us something to look forward to (Like From Russia with Love, Dr. No, The Spy Who Loved Me). I can't wait for the set, although the wait for the second and third set is kind of prolonged. Two excellent Connerys (Goldfinger is my favorite of all time), the better of the Daltons, one very good and one not so hot (Live and Let Die) Moore, and the Brosnans. Who could ask for anything more? This set it going to be the best early X-mas present I've ever received.

Summary: James Bond rocks!!!!!!!
Review: This new boxed set is the best thing to happen to this excellent series for the Home Movie format. Not only are they releasing some of the best ones in the series but they're collecters editions too. Cool!!!!! I am very pleased with tis news.

Summary: What can possibley be better than James Bond- on DVD!!!
Review: There is no one cooler, smoother, or wittier than James Bond. He is the man that all women want and all men wish they could be like. Every single one of the movies are great. And with the new DVD format, they are even better!!!

Summary: dissapointing
Review: Being an avid bond fan, this selection is a big let down. I was all set to go out and buy the whole collection, only to find it was taken off the shelves. When I heard they would re-release them coinisiding with TWINE I couldn't wait. Not only is this selection a poor mix of the movies it isn't the whole collection. The only thing it has going for it, is the name: Bond, James Bond. Which in my case will not be enough. I'm holding out for the whole collection.
