Summary: Two-Lane Blacktop
Review: Classic dreamlike film. This is the only movie either James Taylor or Dennis Wilson (who was chosen because he really was a mechanic/not a musician) were in (so I read), but they are wonderful in their parts. And Warren Oates -- love him. In this role, he brings back a little of Ves Painter from Stoney Burke.

I wanted to rate this movie four and a half stars, but The Man wouldn't let me.

Summary: Two Lane Blacktop
Review: Unable to buy this in the UK the wait was worth it thanks to DVD.The long scenes of little going on to me gives the movie that mysterious quality. The two singers are popular with me, especially Wilson, their interaction, (or sometimes lack of)is what makes this film different. When Wilson speaks about cars it is accurate which makes a change from the likes of Days of Thunder.Anyway, I like it and will continue to extol its virtues to others.

Summary: Too-Lame Blanktop
Review: This has got to be the MOST BORING movie ever made. Even allowing for the cool factor, nothing can account for the endless scenes of NOTHING HAPPENING.
As for the fact that these two well-known and respected musicians' acting careers never went anywhere, it is certainly no surprise, since this movie and the characters they play go less than nowhere.
What are they talking about? What are they doing and why are they here? Who frickin' cares. The usually reliable Warren Oates is wasted and the "love interest" is as exciting as a dead battery.
Don't waste your time. Even the trailer couldn't find 30 seconds of excitement to string together.

Summary: Little-known classic
Review: I purchased "Two-Lane Blacktop" because of a review by Leonard Maltin stating that Warren Oates should have received the Oscar for his role. I was not let down. The movie is ostensibly about drag racing, with a cross-country race being waged. More broadly, the movie addresses the American fascination with speed and excitement. More importantly, it is a prime example of the type of small American movies that flourished in the 1970s, but are not being made today. James Taylor and Dennis Wilson star in their only primary acting roles of their careers, and bring a low-key realism to the movie. None of the characters are named and there is minimal dialogue, but my interest was maintained throughout. The DVD also includes a fascinating commentary track with indie director Monte Hellman (Cockfighter). I highly recommend this DVD for persons looking for something a little different.

Summary: classic road picture
Review: I was one of the many extras in two lane blacktop, so for me, it was a great piece of nostalgia. Ok, the acting left a lot to be desired, except for character actor Warren Oates. He was a hoot. But as far as the car flix genere goes, Two lane rates up there with the best. A must see for car buffs and hot rod fans

Summary: MAD MAX ORIGINAL
Review: This is mad max a realistic pre-cursor minus the apocalypse. The Girl is not taken away by a bad guy, rather the Boys are taken away by their obssession with their Hot Rod. The girl gives up as they go about the business of maintaining and racing it. Their foil is a man who is more showmanship than guts and axle grease. Together they do a long distance race for that ultimate stake, their own ride. The Foil tries to get the girl and fails purely on his own terms because the Boys Don't Care. This film gained a cult following because of its Zen-like quality, I suppose, and it probably inspired a lot more films of this genre that eventually culminated in the Dukes of Hazzard and Knight Rider and then fizzled as it lost its roots.

Summary: A Movie For Gearheads
Review: It was almost 30 years between the first time I saw this movie and when I got this tape. There were several scenes I remembered all those years but it was the very last 30 seconds of the movie that stuck out in my head. The cost of the tape if twice the price would be worth it. How many movies these days do you see guys taking their own tools boxes with 'em? Want to see a real big block bow tie instead of a chromed over something? You see street racing like it really was. The driver and mechanic, how serious are they about racing? They race, girl comes along, they have girl and race, they lose girl, they keep on racing. So if you are looking for a love story with a happy ending, this in not the movie for you. If speed shifting and low geared rear end whine is your idea of music, this movie works. I'm keeping my copy.

Summary: 2 lane blacktop
Review: what can i say, I first saw the film by accident on TV in about 1978.In the last 5 or 6 yeard I have been trying to track down a copy on video but It has been discontinued in the U.K for many years.
The film itself is Atmospheric ,Moody & thoroughly watchable
Even though the acting is hammy it is a real "Get lost into" film.
Thank god it is now available on DVD format with all the extras!!

Summary: cool cars- boring movie
Review: If you're looking for a movie with cool muscle cars, this is it, If your looking for a movie with a great plot, lots of action, a good story line and believable acting, look elsewhere. Although there are several cool cars shown throughout the movie, there is not enough action. Infact, I was bored at times.

Summary: Not As Good As............
Review: I am a very big fan of road movies and TLBT is excellent. If you are also obbsesed with road movies (especially 70s road movies) then see this film. Its not quite as good as Vanishing Point (the best road movie ever) but its better than Aloha Bobby and Rose, Gone In 60 Seconds (the 1974 original not the Nic Cage crap!), Driver ect. A good way to describe it is a thinking mans road movie as opposed to cannonball run. SEE IT.
