Summary: classic trilogy finally available on dvd
Review: Finally, Indiana Jones has been released to DVD. I'm sure a lot of movie lovers have been awaiting for this as much as the original Star Wars trilogy. First reviews of the films themselves.

Raiders : (10/10). A true movie classic. Harrison Ford added another iconic role to his pedestal along with Han Solo. Every scene in the film, from the classic opening prologue to the opening of the Ark is thrilling. Jones is sent by the US government to stop the Nazi's from recovering the Ark of the Covenant. Karen Allen, as Marion Ravenwood remains THE Indy heroine and Paul Freeman is great as the slimy Belloq. John Rhys-Davies and Denholm Elliot are great support as Sallah and Marcus Brody. They even return for the third movie. Not much more to say here that hasn't been said before.

Temple of Doom: (8 1/2 /10). Not up to Raiders, but still a great, underrated movie. Come on people, this was a great movie!I've always found the constant bashing and dislike for this film to be ridiculous. Some of Indiana Jones's best moments are in this film, such as the minecar chase, voodoo doll fight, spiked room and the final scene on the bridge. True, Kate Capshaw's character, Willie Scott is irritating but the movie has a lot of strengths to make up for her constant screaming. Short Round is amusing and Molaram is a great villain.

For all you haters of the movie; buy the used dvds of Raiders and Crusade somewhere such as E-Bay or a video store. It's not like Temple was THAT bad. Grow up and get a life people, you sound like a bunch of whiny 5-year old kids.

Last Crusade: (9/10). The opening scene with the late River Phoenix as the young Indy is an exciting opening scene. It's nice to learn about Indy's origins this time around as well. Sean Connery's addition to the series was a great idea. The father-son relationship between Ford and Connery is memorable and adds humor and drama to the movie. In fact, Connery's presence is what keeps Crusade from being a sort of-retread of Raiders. This movie is a little too similar to Raiders such as involving Indy racing the Nazi's to find an artifact,Indy meeting up with somebody he has been estranged with, both take place in deserts, similar ending, etc. Also, the Nazi villains this time, while adequate, aren't memorable. They feel like recycled versions of the Nazi's in Raiders. Still, Crusade was a great third installment to a wonderful trilogy.

Bonus Disc: The interviews and makings of- were fun to watch but there should have been more on this disc. Such as deleted scenes. The Godfather and Back to the Future dvd sets had plethoras of bonus material. The lack of bonus material on the set might leave one unsatisfied.

I hope Lucas will bring out the other great trilogy of his on dvd soon.

Hopefully, Indiana Jones 4 will be awesome.

Summary: there's glass between indiana and the cobra....
Review: i've been looking forward to the release of these movies in dvd form for a long time and was very happy to see santa brought them for my son. i guess it's been awhile since i viewed 'the raiders of the lost ark', because i remembered it as so exciting and thrilling. of course, no thriller is as exciting the second time you see it, much less the fifth or sixth. still, the acting here is very good, the sets exotic. that said, i was disappointed how much this movie has aged in so short a time. the special effects seem almost amateurish.
still, raiders towers over 'the temple of doom'. the film starts with a big song and dance number that disintegrates into a gunfight as indy searches for the antidote for the poison he has just drank. sounds exciting, right? might have been except for the wooden presence of kate capshaw in the female lead. her and the boy sidekick are like leaden weights around indiana jones's ankles. all three land in india where they come to rescue a whole village of children from the clutches of a murderous cult. this movie seemed to have a underlayer of racism...of the usual sort...white man comes to village of brown-skinned people and rescues the children as the whole village waits placidly.
the third of the series, 'the last crusade', is far and away the best. a young indiana jones tries to steal back an ancient relic and shows the beginnings of many of indy's trademarks...the hat, the whip, the abhorrence of snakes, etc. then it goes on to become a chase between indy and those nasty nazis (you would have thought they'd have given up after their disastrous run-in with jones in 'raiders') to get to the holy grail first. sean connery appears as indy's father and is absolutely brilliant. the female lead is alluring. the special effects finally do justice.
finally, the extra dvd was a complete dud. one expects the best when dealing with lucas and spielberg, but they sadly disappoint with this bland bonus disc.

Summary: WOAH! This Stuff is GOOD!!!
Review: These are some of the best movies I have ever had. They have action, humor, the whole kitten kaboodle!

"Raiders of the Lost Ark" - Best of the series. I think it is impossible not to like. The first time you see it you may think, "WOAH! When WILL this end?" But trust me, the ending is the most exciting in filmmaking, and well worth the wait. *****

"Temple of Doom" - Indy goes horror here. Scary, and sometimes cruel at parts. People whip children, and the adorable Short Round, Indy's Junior assistant. Some gross out parts, like a voodoo guy ripping a sacrafice's heart out, and a disgusting dinner may make some people wanna throw up. Least favorite of the series. ***

"Last Crusade" - THIS is the Indiana Jones we know, and love. We're back with a ton of action, and twists, and a terrific prologue with a young Indy that begins his adventure days. The best part is Indy's dad, perfectly played by Sean Connery. Lots of humor, and we return to having the bad guy get mutated rather than eaten. ****
