Summary: If you don't own this....
Review: ...then you must not have a DVD player.

A release of a movie already released on DVD, this is a new movie entirely from what the theatrical version offered. Over 30 minutes of extended footage incorporated in the film, this is the version you should watch if you want to experience what JRR Tolkien would want you too, outside of the books, that is.

This DVD is almost too golden for words. The menu's. The hours upon hours of extras, are just glorious. There's almost TOO much supplemental content. It's mindboggling. "Day in the Life of the hobbit" and the specials on the music for the film were my favorites, but all are interesting.

I've been a fan of LOTR for several years and I'm truly prould of Peter Jackson and his vision of this epic. I'd pay hundreds of dollars for this, and you would too.

In short: Just buy this movie. You wont ever want to watch the theatrical version again. Also the best DVD ever made, and has one several awards. I'd buy this even if I didn't have a DVD player. So, there are no excuses if you are a Tolkienite or just plain ol' movie lover.

"MELLON!"

Summary: The Lord of the Rings Review by Jennifer Ziolko
Review: The Lord of the Rings is a film by Peter Jackson and a New Line Cinema release. It is a 2001 release and is approximately 3 hours in length. It was nominated for several Academy Awards including "Best Picture", "Best Screenplay Adaptation", "Best Director", and "Best Actor", Ian McKellen, among others.
This film is about a hobbit trying to destroy the one ring which has the power to destroy middle earth. It is Part 1 of a Trilogy. The fellowship is united which includes a dwarf, an elf, 2 men, a wizard, and four hobbits. They, together will protect the hobbit, Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood), on his way to destroy the ring.
I give this film 5 stars because I thought the whole movie was very well done. The scenery, the acting, the special effects, and the evil men were done very well too. Everything was so big. I think this movie is one of the best movies that has came out in long while.

Summary: Excellent!
Review: This is the best view of the first book of the Tolkien trilogy I have so far seen. In my opinion, though it does not include all the scenarios of the written works, what is there follows Tolkien's perception extremely well. Only a six-hour movie would have been able to do so. Kudos to all those who worked on the movie.

Summary: About fifty times better than the book.
Review: The book has been praised lavishly. Certainly, some of this praise is deserved, however the book is about a hundred pages too long, and takes much to long to get the story moving. Worst of all, the book's characters break out into fruity songs more often than the cast of Cats.

None of these problems are present in the movie. The pacing is perfect, and the action is fantastic. This is Tolkien the way he only wished he could tell stories.

Summary: Overrated Movie
Review: This is a good story but there's much that doesn't make sense. There is strange moments and sometimes I have to look scenes again that I would totally understand what's happening. Of course, there's good scenes that is great to see again. There's good effects and some moments are brilliant. The actors are very good but the film could have been much better!

Summary: Worth buying, but see original version as well.
Review: I bought this DVD at a store and I can honestly say that it was worth every penny. However, this extended version of the film differs greatly from the theatrical version. It's still the same movie, but added scenes and even changes in line delivery make it seem completely different. If anyone here has not seen the film yet, I advise you see the theatrical version first before checking this one out. It will help you to apprecriate the movie even more.

Summary: J.R.R. Tolkien's Epic Saga Comes to the Screen
Review: I guess there's enough been said about 'The Lord of the Rings-The Fellowship of the Ring' that everyone whose read Christian author J.R.R. Tolkien's classic trilogy masterpiece and have seen the movie already knows it front and backward. If those of you never seen it, or the only one movie to see or rent it-please do! For those who like fantasy with elves, hobbits, dwarves and human heros and heroines in a strange land of Middle-Earth this is a real treat. It's a tale of the forces of good's valiant stand against the encroaching evil. There are knock-your-socks-off special effects. I do like to add that part 2 of the trilogy, 'The Two Towers' is due out on 2-DVD set and VHS on August 26, 2003. Not far in the future will be final film of the trilogy, 'The Return of the King' to be released in December 17, 2003. Also on DVD (Special Edition), that will delight Ring fans is 'J.R.R. TOLKIEN: Master of the Rings: The Definitive Guide to the World of the Rings' <ASIN: B00005UPFL>. A documentary that contains many Christian allegories, rare archive footage of the author, illustrations by the Brothers Hildebrandt and 3-D animations of Middle-Earth and more. The music is by keyboardist Rick Wakeman ('Journey to the Center of the Earth') <ASIN: B000000IU3>. Plus, there's 'A Visual Guide to J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Two Towers"' <B00007KK12> and an animated version, 'J.R.R. Tolkien Animated Film Sets' <B00005UM49>. It's a nice addition to your Ring collection.

Summary: A Far Superior Edition of an already Superior movie
Review: The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Rings Special Extended Edition is an excellent retelling of the original version. What director Peter Jackson has done is magnificant. Instead of just setting deleted scenes aside to be viewed separately, he has inserted them into the film. And instead of just inserting them, he has rearranged scenes so that the movie flows.
The result is a completely new movie that makes you plunge into the world of Middle Earth. Some of the new scenes are very insightful, like the "Concerning Hobbits" prologue, the departure of the Wood-elves to the Grey Havens, the gifts of Galadriel, and the memorial of Aragorn's mother.
Complimenting the newly added scenes are extentions of already existing scenes. This is a beautiful movie and the plot deepens in this special edition. Though there is no Tom Bombadil or songs of Tolkien, it is still a very enjoyable, emotional experience.
Once you watch this edition, you will never be able to watch the original again. You'll be stuck to this one. I highly recommend it!!!
