Summary: in a world of hollywood-produced mush...
Review: there shines the foreign-film market. i cannot wait till this film is out on video for the masses. i saw it back in feb of 99 and i absolutely loved the stunning story-line of this brasilian film. it truly is a unique film and should be seen by everyone. i'd rather go see gems like this than anything hollywood can dish out.

Summary: Beautiful!
Review: Sorry folks, but I just have to add my two cents. I absolutely loved this film. Fernanda Montenegro acted circles around Gwyneth Paltrow. Ms. Montenegro was seriously cheated out of one of the most deserved Oscars ever. The boy who plays Josue is also incredibly good and the chemistry the two share only adds to the pain and humanity that permeates this film. One of Brazil's greatest contribution to the world of cinema and a film that will live within the viewer for a long time. Rent it, please! When will Hollywood get it? These are the types of films that truly live on. No offense, James Bond!

Summary: Another "Kolya". Even better than "Kolya", I suppose.
Review: I hardly imagine somebody, after watching this film, still argues that love is powerless. One's heart can be so frozen but still there is a tiny little space for love to melt the iceberg. Josue's ingenuous, honest eyes come straight through Dora's almost-dead-heart. And the next is how sweet love can be. Walter Salles did not have to make a ship-boat silly love story to prove this.

Summary: Unforgettable, a Masterpiece!
Review: Everything it takes to become a classic that will endure long after many other pictures and stars that may have even won Oscars will be forgotten. The performances are incredible, a moving and touching movie watching experience that I cannot forget.

Summary: wonderful
Review: I enjoyed this movie very much, having lived in Brazil for the first part of my life, i could relate to the movie at a different level, although Brazil is an interesting and at times rugged country to live in it also has another side to it, since there's virtually no middle class, in Brazil you're either a have or a have not, this movie makes me wish i had appreciated such a diverse culture when i had the chance.

Summary: Great movie, horrid DVD
Review: I would give the DVD 1 star, but the movie is so good that overall I can only bring myself to knock off two stars. Why in the world is there not an option to turn off the english subtitles. In the least, they should have also included spanish subtitles. Overall, I was very disappointed that Columbia produced such an inferior product. Unbelievable.

Summary: One of the Best Brazilian movies
Review: Central Station is certainly one of the best Brazilian movies ever released. It shows the realities of Brazil in a captivating story and a great cast, especially Vinicius de Oliveira. It certainly deserved both Oscars this year.

Summary: A truly phenomenal work!
Review: This work is truly phenomenal. The plot gives you great character identification while it describes the realities of everyday Brazil. I can't wait till it comes out cheaper!

Summary: Definitely one of the best films I've seen !
Review: Even though I would have loved for this DVD to include a soundtrack or subtitles in Spanish, I believe "Central do Brasil" deserves to be bought in any language or format available. It is amazing to watch a movie with such an ability to provoke scarcely experienced emotions while it offers a beautifully depicted portrait of Brazil, its culture, people and landscape, all entwined with a touching story delivered to us through a masterful combination of actors and non-actors. Fernanda Montenegro gained a lot of recognition with her portrayal of Dora, and she deserved it. It is a pity they didn't award her the Oscar. Her young counterpart in the film, Vinicius de Oliveira, was also outstanding and very convincing. I keep this film in a preferred position among the best films I've ever seen.

Summary: Unfortunetely found Life is Beautiful in its way...
Review: Pretty nice movie, it does show a real portrait of Brazilian reality, the illiterate and the poor community unfotunatelly predominant down here. It was a serious nominee for Foreign Language Film Oscar in 1999, but found a stronger competitor in Life is Beautiful, also a brilliant movie.
