Summary: A Very Good Film
Review: I had read so many reviews saying how bad this movie was, so since I don't go by what other people think I saw it. I have to tell you that I loved it, it is one of the best movies i have seen in a long time.
I think that people taht disliked the movie where people that got offended by it. There are some issues that may be sensitive to a number of people. I on the other hand didn't get offended at all. I'm not going to describe the story because I'm sure everyone knows waht it is about. All i have to say is that i highly recommned this movie to anyone with an open mind.

Summary: Urgh... Spoiler-Filled Pan of DAVID GALE
Review: SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW.

I saw this one in the movie theaters. I left the theater angry and frustrated. Not because of the U.S. death penalty. But because of this movie! David Gale, who loves to give the middle finger to "the system", pulls the ultimate flip-off in this film. The screenplay tries very hard to justify it, but I could not stomach the actions he takes. In order to prove his point, Gale participates in a fake suicide -- morally reprehensible! The writer tries to justify this (she was dying of cancer anyway, who cares if she decides to kill herself/sacrifice herself for a "just" cause??) but it doesn't float in my book.

The actions that our "hero" takes in this film undermine the argument against the death penalty! It makes "liberals" appear desperate and a little nuts. I wanted DAVID GALE to present an honest, good argument against the death penalty. Instead, a mediocre "who done it" story is "hung" on the death penalty scenario. The writer throws in some poorly placed arguments (usually as background dialogue; usually statistics) against the death penalty, but fails to win anyone over -- especially with the ENDING!!

So, I have BIG PROBLEMS with this movie. Heroes don't "win" by pulling tricks like David Gale does. Heroes win because they are right, stick to their guns -- and are supported by THE TRUTH.

I'd skip this film. The ending will outrage you -- it did me.

Summary: Mindless and cliche thriller that could have been much more
Review: The Life of David Gale revolves around hot-to-trot reporter Bitzy Bloom (why the screenwritter chose that name out of every other name in the world I will never know.) Bitzy (Kate Winslet) is to interview former college professer and well known death row abolitionist David Gale (Kevin Spacey). Ironically enough he is on death row for the rape and murder of one of his colleges/friends played by Laura Linney.
Now, Bisty has three days to figure out if Davids story of being framed is true, and who the real culprit is.
SOUNDS ORIGINAL AND INTRUIGING EH? NOT REALLY.
This was a big suprise especially from director Alan Parker who has brought us classics like Angel Heart and Midnight Express.
Where the movie failed is where 2/3 of thrillers these days do, comming up with an original plotline without the overuse of cliches and wannabe twists. This movie is full of both.
While Kevin Spacey underplays the role and delivers a rock solid performance, Titanic chick Kate Winselt overacts to the point of no return. This makes the film even more unbeliveable.
Laura Linney delivers a belivable and moving performance as the over-zelick death row abolitionist who will stop at nothing to prove a cause. Unfortunatly neither Spacey or Linney's performances can save a screenplay that uses the "out of service" cell phone cliche and is expected to be taken seriously.
I understand what The Life of David Gale was trying to deliver in terms of its message on death row and capital punishment, but it did not need to be delivered to us in a package marked cliche.

Summary: The Life of David Gale
Review: When I saw this movie, I wanted to see it again and again, it was so good. This movie made me cry, and frecked me out a bit. Some parts were funny others were intese. For those people out there who always read the critics reveiws first before going to the movies, and don't see what they intened on seeing, don't always take someones word for it that what you always read isn't true. Because this movie did not desverive two stars it desverived more than that, like five or more. Kevin Spacey, I thought desvrivered an oscar for his performace I thought this movie was that great. Kate Winslet was great too, she did a really fantastic job. It's hard trying to make the audience really believe the actors that they are really this people in the movie, and in this movie I really thought that I was with these people on a mission to find the truth, seeing thier lives. Great acting should take you away completely from reality, this movie did. I highly highly recomend this film to anyone who is a fan of the actors, director, the story. You'll love it, but be carefull don't watch this film to many times because it's a tear-jerker deffenatlly.

Summary: Excellent,thought provoking,thriller!
Review: Although, the critics did not like this movie, that just proves that not all xritics should speak for the movie going public!
I really loved this film.Great personal political film without making it seem so boringly political.Kevin Spacey is wonderful as a brillent UT professor who is an advocate for saving death penelty inmates from well...death.His partner in crime is a wonderful Laura Linney who is more passionate in her goal to abolish the death penelty.Kevin Spacey finds himself accused of Rape and Murder and with 3 days left to live.Kate Winslet is the reporter that gets sucked into his story.Kate Winslet is by far the best asset to the film.It is wonderful to see her just use her amazing talent in jeans and without a corset or taking her clothes off!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Summary: All who are for capital punishment ought to be hanged!
Review: My review title is a joke I once heard, but it is a much less convoluted oxymoron than this movie! I give it three stars for its suspense through most of the plot, which makes it never boring, and for some compelling acting. But through twists that repeatedly undermine the story you thought you were buying into, the film ultimately becomes self-destructive. I've seen it said in various reviews that this movie promotes an anti- death penalty agenda. Well, it sure does seem to much of the way through. But in the end I found myself seriously asking if this film might really be a joke that those reviewers never caught on to. I can really see supporters of capital punishment getting the last laugh here, having a field day in the end, however much they might have been put out with what they perceived along the way as propoganda. After mulling over this movie for a while, I grew to feel a little pride in my never having been a strong zealot one way or another on the capital punishment issue. For the film certainly shows how zealots for a cause can become fanatics who contradict the very principles that attracted them to the cause in the first place. And that amply happens to death penalty opponents in this case. If death penalty advocates want to make a case that opponents are not morally grounded and will sell out their very principles in an effort to promote them, the opponents of the death penalty in this movie have played right into the hands of such criticism. The supposed heroes of this movie think they've won a definitive victory that can't be turned against them. But instead they have done the ultimate in turning of their own cause on its head, and give the other side more ammunition than ever. I'll get no more specific, to avoid spoilers. There is suspense enough here to keep your interest. Just don't expect it to make coherent sense in the end.

Summary: Thinking is not knowing...
Review: Shakespeare once stated, the fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool, and this quote narrows down the idea of the film in regards to the death penalty. Dr. David Gale (Kevin Spacey) is on death row for the murder of his friend, Constance Hallaway (Laura Linney), with whom he once was an anti-death penalty activist. Dr. Gale has requested to have three interviews with Newsweek magazine's reporter Elizabeth 'Bitsey' Bloom (Kate Winslet), each one sequentially in the days prior his execution. The interviews are the premise on which the story is built and this is presented through flashbacks. In between these three flashbacks there is clear evidence emerging in regards to Dr. Gale's innocence, but who is providing them with the proof? Life of David Gale is a interesting film that plays with the attribution theory and the moral dilemma of death penalty. Moreover, the story is driven by the audience, meaning that the audience must be aware and alert on what is being presented to them. At the end, the film provides much food for the brain to ponder, which can be fuel for future discussions.
