Summary: Overall, excellent.
Review: I've seen the live show 3 times, heard the soundtrack probably a hundred or more, but this DVD was still an exciting and thrilling experience. A gorgeous 5.1 recording of an entirely new performance of the music. The editing and camera work reveal character interactions and nuances I had never noticed before. An excellent, tremendously talented cast. The 'making of' short feature is also great.

Just 2 quibbles: First, the Growltiger sequence was omitted altogether. Was I the only person who liked that number?

Second: As my wife noticed (and I had to agree) there's an almost laughable number of closeups of the female performers' derrieres wiggling during various numbers. Webber was just a bit too liberal with the butt-cam.

Aside from this, it was teriffic.

Summary: Pretty dull stuff on video.
Review: This ain't Live on Broadway where MAYBE this one-song-wonder might seem worth the price of your first born. It's flat and fairly lifeless on video. Elaine Paige and "Memory" are fine, but there isn't much more than that. Strictly for the kids.

Summary: the best musical i have ever seen
Review: When I watched cats for the first time, it was the first time i saw a musical. After wathcing cats I was captured by the songs and the acting. I felf that it was the best play I had ever seen even after I saw Rent and My fair lady. Anyone who is skeptical about musicals has definately got to see this one. I proudly give it five stars.

Summary: Always coming back for more...
Review: I have only seen the video, and I think that it is the best. I loved all the characters except for Cassandra-they could have done better choreographing with her. I first saw the whole thing on PBS.

I loved Mr. Mistoffoles and Victoria, the lighting, and a vast majority of the song.

Congrats to all who worked on it!!

Summary: CATS will live forever as one of the best!!!
Review: I have seen CATS performed in the theatre 3 times now, the last being this year in Seattle, WA., USA. I love the performance and am so happy now that I can view an excellent version at home anytime I want! This filmed, only no-audience version is excellent, and while it can't replace the thrill of being at the theatre, it does let you pause for snacks anytime you need to! The price is right and costs much less than the $106.00 I paid for a pair of tickets to the theatre! GET THIS VIDEO, AND RELIVE THE MAGIC OF ANDREW LLOYD WEBER'S WONDERFUL CREATION THAT IS CATS! :]

Summary: Great music, great cast, a little different from the Show.
Review: As one of the worlds greatest musicals, "Cats" has to be seen to be believed. "Cats" is still running in New York (since 1982), and London (since 1980). This DVD offers closeups of the characters which you do not see at the theater. The sound is excellent, with a wonderful cast, and a suprise, Sir John Mills as Gus the Theater Cat. My only disappointment, the Siamese cats were omitted. A resounding plus for the DVD format, lets hope we see more current/recent Musicals put on DVD. I have sen the DVD's of "West Side Story", and "Showboat", these are Movies, "Cats" is not, rather it is a recreation of the stage performance, very, very well done.

Summary: Waiting for the Memory to live no longer!!!
Review: Having seen "Cats" live, only once , I was thrilled to be able to see it whenever I wanted. That live performance was from somewhere in the first 20 rows of a smaller theatre...seating less than 2500 people. Even then, the performer protraying Grizabella, brought tears to my eyes with her perfomance of Memory. But being able to see Ms. Paige perform Memory is rather like seeing Mozart conduct Eine Kleine Nachtmuzik. Her emotion even more visible with the camera close-ups. My next favorite segment of the musical is still Macaverty. The two female performers are terrific. I did not miss the portion of the musical where the siamese, I believe, perform in a segment that brings to mind The King and I rather than alleycats.. Hats off to the make-up team for their terrific work on the various characters 'masks.' Every feline character definitely had his or her own look while remaining solidly feline. I especially loved Exotica, and the character (sorry the name escapes me), singing the duet leading into Memory with Grizabella. Nothing captures the magic of live theatre, therefore, the 4 star rating. I did enjoy the close-ups and different perspectives. A little more full stage viewing to capture the group as a whole, with the almost subliminal interaction going on off to the side, would have rounded out the video production.

Summary: BEST TO BE HAD, EVEN IF YOUR NOT A CAT LOVER!!
Review: I've never been a cat lover, but when I saw this movie I fell in love with the cats on the screen. I'd always heard how fantastic it was, but I never thought it'd be this good. And Mr. Mistofelles will always be #1 in my book!!
