Review: I've seen many stage plays and this video captures the stage effect better than any other. We play this video at least once a week!

Summary: 95% Puurfect!
Review: Cats: Now and Forever! I am a Cats lover and one of their most devoted fans. The new release on video is absoulutly GREAT! Aside from the fact that they lip-sync, James Barron's performance as Bustopher Jones isn't very good, they cut out "Growltiger's Last Stand"(ouch!) butchered three other songs, they messed up no less than five very nasty camera angles(Ow!) and in the beginning, poor Jemima needs a Ricola.(!) Otherwise, it is just perfectissimo! The music is great, The singing and dancing are excellent, the music is awesome, the special effects are so-so,but the choreography, the make-up,their coats/costumes,their facial expressions and masks, and their concentration is exceptional. It more than makes up for the bad things mentioned above. Well worth the 17 or so dollars it costs to add this amazing video to your collection. A video for the whole family. Exquisite.

Summary: excellent-worth seeing
Review: I loved the songs, the dancing, and the costumes. As a person who lives in the middle of nowhere, this video allowed me to see the show, and I think it's great.

Summary: Absolutely faithful rendition of the award winning play!
Review: Tonight is the night that the Jellicle Cats pick the cat who will ascend to the Heaviside Lair. Meet the Cats and learn about their lifestyles. T.S. Elliot originally wrote the poems for his young relations and they are as poignant today as they were then and will be in another 100 years. Now they are on the screen as they were on the stage, brought to glorious life. A must-see for all ages.

Summary: CATS IS THE BEST!!
Review: I absolutely LOVE Cats! The video is great and I watch it all the time. The cast is wonderful, especially Jacob Brent as Mistoffolees, Jo Gibb as Rumpleteazer, Verlee Castelyn as Jemima, John Partrige as Rum Tum Tugger, Micheal Gruber as Munkustrap, and Rosemarie Ford as Bombalurina. I think it is great that they decided to make a video from the play. All though the video is fantastic, the play itself on stage is more breathtaking than anything.

Summary: One for the Books!
Review: It's wonderful to have a faithful, archival version of this show. Ken Page is wonderful (as always) and Elaine Paige -- it just proves she did it first and did it best -- which is saying a lot, as there have been some other wonderful people who've played Grizabella. Much of Lloyd-Webber's music is pastiche -- not always a bad thing! (Sondheim's "Follies" is almost all pastiche and is one of the very few greatest musical of all time). "Memory" is bound to become a classic -- which is not surprising, as it's basically Puccini. But at least the melody isn't a direct theft, such as "I Don't Know How to Love Him" -- which is literally lifted from Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto (slow movement). In all, a delightful production -- and it's on video, so you can fast forward through the boring or uninspired parts. "Evita" is still the composer's finest production, and it would have been wonderful to have an archive version of the play, with Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin and Bob Gunton. Madonna and Antonio Banderas did well, but the original Broadway cast is definitive.

Summary: Cat fanatics, this one's for you.
Review: Has it's moments but can hardly be called "great" musical theater as the score (with the exception of one song) is fairly lackluster. I just don't see the excitement, but I guess that's because I'm a dog person. Cat people will obviously love it though.

Summary: What A Video!!
Review: CATS is superb! It doesn't have the same effect as seeing it in person, but the good thing about the video is that you get a REALLY close view of everyone's faces and their expressions. The costumes are the best I have ever seen in theater. CATS, on video or theater, is my absolute FAVORITE play.
