Summary: Yes, Its THAT Bad!!
Review: After reading so many positive reviews to this awful stinker, I was compelled to set the record straight, this is a boring movie. It has nothing to offer, no scares, no special effects, only laughs and disgust. After wasting about 1 hour in a mind numbing rehash of "what is mentally wrong with her?" dialogue, the devil possession finally ensues and it is entirely boring. Its quite obvious that everything was outright plagerized from the superior "Exorcist", only proving that the Italians can not make anything resembling a decent picture in the same vein. The lead actress is weak, a cry baby and all she does is walk around like a spoiled child. The father, even worse, and I won't mention the stupid brother who has incestuous relations with his sister. In all, avoid this and don't bother like I did, expecting something worth a few scares.

Summary: A Eurohorror Benchmark
Review: Forget the derviative plot (why do so many of you who claim to love Italian horror make a point out of criticzing its cannon as derviative? It is a given). This movie is a triumph of color cinematography (by notorius Italian Porn Director Joe A'Amato, no less), blue screen imaging, grotesque sex, and well-informed blasphemy. While "L'Antichristo" is an "Exorcist" clone, it has its truly original elements, and a stronger Roman Catholic flavor than William Peter Blatty's creations. THIS IS NO HACK JOB!! Alberto De Martino made a technicolor beauty to rival and presage"Suspiria" in the annals of Italian horror.

Carla Gravina's possessed Hippolita is, at different turns, campily repulsive and sexy. Gravina plays her part straight faced and hard bodied.

As for shock, Gravina's repressed memory of her past life's conversion to a "Daughter of Satan" is the most grotesque and disturbing mockery of Catholic ritual committed to film.

In "L'Antichristo," the traditional characteristics of possession are treated less as symptoms, and more as combat techniques. Head spinning becomes a form of murder, and vomit becomes a missile weapon.

As for visuals, you have to see the eerie and out of proportion scene where Hippolita levitates out of a window!!

There are scarier "Exorcist" clones than "L'Antichristo," but none more masterful and visually stunning. I have a friend of a friend of a friend who somehow wrangled an advance copy of this DVD, and, after years of hearing about this movie being essential Italian horror, I'm glad for the sneak preview.

There is not much in the way of extras on this disc, except for a 10-minute interview with De Martino and score composer Ennio Morricone (who scored "Exorcist 2," as well), a stills gallery, and a spare American trailer. Though few, I loved the extras.

A must for monster movie geeks everywhere. Thank you Anchor Bay; you'll have my money next Tuesday.

Summary: PRETTY CHILLING!!!
Review: I have always heard that there were some foreign Exorcist rip-offs out there. The prospect seemed interesting. I would not expect one of these to be anywhere near as good as the real thing but figured it might be cool to see. I also happen to like Italian horror so this seemed like a good place to start. Wrong. There are some good moments and some nice camera work (which Italian horror films are known for) but the problem is that this movie moves very slowly. Now in a movie like the Exorcist you don't mind the building pace, it's worth the wait and indeed adds to the film's feel. But here I just found myself waiting and waiting for some action. Once the action starts it's then over rather quickly. If you're like me, you will be tempted to buy this movie...but really try and see it first.

Summary: WHAT THE EXORCIST SHOULD HAVE BEEN LIKE!!!!!!
Review: THE ANTICHRIST RUNS CIRCLES AROUND THE EXORCIST AND THIS FILM IS A LOT SCARIER THAN THAT LAUGH-FEST!!
THE MAIN CHARACTER OF THIS MOVIE(PORTRAYED BY CARLA GRAVINA) FITS THIS ROLE ENTIRELY AND DID A FANTASTIC JOB MAKING US BELIEVE THAT SHE WAS MOST DEFINETELY POSSESED.
THERE'S BLOOD, VIOLENCE, PROFANITY AND ALL THESE VARIOUS ASPECTS THAT MAKE FOR A GREAT SCARY MOVIE!!
IT IS A HARD MOVIE TO STOMACH AND HAS A LOT OF GROSS GOINGS-ON, BUT THE ONLY DISADVANTAGE TO THIS FILM IS THE FACT THAT IT IS AN ITALIAN FILM AND IT WAS DUBBED TO ENGLISH!!!
THERE IS NO THEATRICAL TRAILER ON THIS DVD, BUT IT DOES FEATURE A 10 MIN. SPECIAL LOOK AT THE FILM BY IT'S DIRECTOR!!
THIS HELPS US TO BETTER UNDERSTAND THE MOVIE AND APPRECIATE IT!!
THIS FILM ALSO INCLUDES THE FAMOUS GOAT ORGY SCENE- AND IT IS OUT-THE-BOX!! ENJOY!!!

Summary: Bad Exorcist ripoff
Review: The antichrist should have been better but instead it was a very cheesey knockoff. The first half was intresting it was about Carla Gravina's character who is paralyzed from the waist down after suffering a tragic accident when she was younger, her mother was killed in the accident as well so she has these feelings of guilt and resentment towards her father and blah, blah ect.
the second half was boring and had crappy special effects, most of the scenes were obviously stolen from the exorcist then there were other scenes that were so hillarious and downright stupid that you just have to laugh at the attempt of the film makers to make a seriuos horror film.
this dvd is the uncut version which has the orgy scene which is really bad because they bring in a goat so you can imagine what happens next. Overall I think you should avoid this unless you like to collect horror films from Anchor Bay studios which i do often.

Summary: Italian Exorcist rip-off too watered down.
Review: The lead actress in "Antichrist" looks a little bit like Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby. The film is slow at first, until the erotic dream/incubus sequence, which is rather weak, and not particularly erotic. A body double was obviously used for the nude scenes, and it cheapens the film. The film had good potential, and manages to be creepy in scenes, but towards the end, you can tell where entire scenes were stolen from the American blockbuster. Too much cussing, levitating and green pea soup, not enough actual originality, like "Alucarda" had. All in all, a good piece of Italian Giallo to own if you love the genre, but just another in a long line of rip offs.

Summary: Italian Excorcist
Review: This has one really interesting scene, when the character becomes possessed - the little ceremony she performs, including licking a goat's arse is strange (well, how else would you term it?). For this alone, it rated 2 stars from me.

This is an Italian Excorcist rip-off. It has some interesting moments, but otherwise is really dull (unless you like seeing the woman vomiting green - but you've probably already seen that in the Excorcist).

The ceremony mentioned above is done in a half-dreamlike state where the character is in bed, & has dreams/visions of being initiated in a forest, so that when in the forest, a goat-masked Satanist has sex with her, she opens her legs in bed, the bed is indented as if an invisible lover is on it with her, and she seems to feel what is going on in the forest... strange, strange, strange!

Summary: PRETTY CHILLING!!!
Review: This is pretty scary, well that's what I thought. Not as good as THe Omen or The Exorcist, or even Rosemary's Baby, but it is definately worth a look. Watch it alone in the dark for the ultimate fright.
