Summary: Blanchett gives THE performance of 1998
Review: This sensational film had gorgeous cinematography, lavish visuals, and an outstanding score from David Hirschfelder. But in fact, its actors outshined the film. Arguably one of the best casts of 1998, Cate Blanchett gives the performance of the year in her regal portrayal, Geoffrey Rush delivers an ultra strong performance, Richard Attenborough is completely firm and humble as Cecil, and despite how character is a little weak, Joseph Fiennes balances it out. See it for the riveting performances, if not the marvel of the movie itself.

Summary: If nothing else it made me look at my history books.
Review: I watched the film this week and thoroughly enjoyed it. I understand that there may have been historical inaccuracies, but if you took it at face value, it was thoroughly enjoyable. It made me think about the place of religion and politics in our lives, nothing changes it seems! If nothing else it made me pick up my history books to check facts - which cannot be anything but a good thing!

Summary: One of the best suprises of 1998.
Review: Despite some historical indulgences, this film was one of the few that I hadn't heard either over hyped or completely dissed. Therefore, I was able to walk into the theater and throughly enjoyed the movie. It had it's weak points, but it fully portrayed the feeling and vision of the age which is not all that easy to do in 2 hours. If you enjoyed this, check out Lady Jane starring Helena Bonham Carter. Both of these movies will not disappoint.

Summary: Worth Watching, but lingered in parts.
Review: Cinematography was good, casting good, but this flick lacked something. I was reminded while watching this movie of the role religion and politics has played in corruption and loss of life to the people throughout history. Probably there is more to do with religion than politics, but then, can the two be separated? I was ambivalant whether to give this movie a 3 or 4 star rating. I gave it a three because there were several parts where the story became bogged down, and downright boring. A mediocre movie, but some good historical significance. Especially adept at portraying the thinking-error rationalization of religous "cleansing". Wow, history just keeps repeating itself. Amazing. Not a movie for the collection, rent it. See Dangerous Liaisons, now that is a good movie.

Summary: Blanchett is the BEST
Review: Even Bette Davis, the 1939 "Elizabeth",would praise Kate Blanchett's portrayal. I thought, until now, that Glenda Jackson (1971 BBC TV Series)WAS Elizabeth II and pictured her in my mind when thinking of the "Virgin Queen." Blanchett is now in my mind's eye as the beautiful young Elizabeth... with the voice to match! The musical score and supporting cast make this film one of the very special historical movies to have.

Summary: Excellent
Review: Superb directing. Beautiful cinematography. Creative and gripping script -- love, lust, survival, leadership, politics, conspiracy, revenge, intriguingly rolled into one. Great acting performance -- the new Cate Blanchett is absolutely terrific in her role as the young Queen. One of 1998's best movies.

Summary: Mario Puzo's "Elizabeth"
Review: Did anyone else draw the cinematic parallel between Elizabeth cloistered away in deep study while Walsingham and the troops were systematically killing the "enemies" -- and the last scene in "The Godfather" where Michael Corleone attends a baptism while scenes of revenge are intercut with swelling music? There were just so many ham-handed elements in Elizabeth that just provoked ridicule and popcorn tossing at the screen. PS Robert Dudley was actually Fredo and when Michael, er I mean Elizabeth, finds out his betrayal, well... see the movie...

Summary: Intrigue-filled Historical thriller!
Review: This is a excellent film!I love the atmospheric cinematography and great acting.I also love that the film had the suspense and the intrigue of a really good political thriller.
