Summary: Fantastic, Funny Movie
Review: As a German Studies student, I am constantly looking for new films to watch to practice language. It is particularly nice when the film is a good one. This film does not take itself too seriously, but it does have a heart, and parts are laugh-out-loud funny. The female lead in this movie is a cutie-pie, and the supporting cast is fantastic. You will appreciate this movie more if you understand German, but even if you don't, there are plenty of good sight gags. I am glad some recent German filmmakers have learned that movies don't all have to be grim and existential. Film can entertain as well.

Review: I lived in Berlin for several years and there are some great German comedies, but this is not one of them. The fact that it made it to an american video store led me to believe it would be pretty good, but it was horrible.

Review: There were years when I would have thought the words "German comedy" were oxymoronic. Italian comedy, French comedy, British comedy--I could easily imagine all of those, but German?.....

But here we have it, indeed, a REAL German comedy. "Advertising Rules" is the story of a young man, Viktor Vogel, who cons his way into the world of big advertising--once "at the top," he learns staying at the top is not quite so easy as it seems, and he learns some painful lessons along the way.

This DVD was refreshing and optimistic.

Review: This is easily the best German film to make it to North America since Run Lola Run.

To start, this film has excellent sound and picture. Plus, the extra features are far superior to other European films released in North America. Even the trailer is the original German trailer, not some dubbed over North American trailer.

The story is great. The actors do a magnificent job. And the storyline flows along at a nice pace. Furthermore, the editing is crisp and the mixture of shots works well to move the story along.

The humor in this film is unpredictable and hilarious. The character Viktor drives the plot well and the supporting characters match the tone perfectly. Strangely enough, the story is not at all unrealistic. It's a very believable and totally entertaining situation.

I'd recommend highly. I don't want to spoil the ending, so let's just say that there are two to choose from, since one is in the extra features. You'll probably like one better. If there were any important flaws in the movie I'd list them here, but there aren't. I challenge anyone to find some and post it.

If you like Götz George's preformance, I'd highly recommend "Das Trio" (The Trio) as well.

Summary: A wonderfully light, enjoyable and yet serious movie
Review: This movie characterizes in a very enjoyable, light and humorous way the hypocritical world of advertising. It shows how easily one can rise and fall in the world of advertisment.

It certainly is true that sometimes a young and fresh spirit can bring a lot of "swing" into an advertisment firm.

The actors do a fantastic job. Highly recommendable for people who like to think a little critically about modern society, yet wants to have fun at the same time. Just wonderful. Go buy it.
