Summary: Funny and romantic
Review: THis movie is one of my favorites ever. Normally I can't stand British comedy but this stuff is hilarious! It will keep you laughing and crying (well, not crying, but it's kinda sad at times). Grant's roommate makes the movie totally worth your two hours. Out of all the Julia Roberts movies I've ever seen (Steel Magnolias, Runaway Bride, My Best Friend's Wedding...) this is the funniest. Maybe not the best, but the funniest. And most romantic.

Summary: Not A Julia Roberts Fan But This Is Her At Her Best
Review: I was very pleasantly surprised by this film. It is a very good romance vehicle for Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts with both of them doing what they do best. He plays the bumbling but endearing, handsome English gent perfectly and she is a lovely movie leading lady who is attracted to how opposite he is from her and her life. This movie isn't reality based at all but neither were most of the leading romantic comedies of the fifties, of which this film strongly reminds me. This is the first film in a long time with Julia Roberts that I have enjoyed as she is not one of my favorite actors. I did not like "My Best Friend's Wedding," or "Pretty Woman." I've always enjoyed Grant though and he is very lovable in this film. The film is almost stolen by the actor who hilariously plays Grant's oddball roommate. His is a supporting role you won't easily forget.

Summary: horrible!
Review: I don't see how people can say they loved this movie! It was awful - the story is contrived, Hugh and Julia have no chemistry, the ending is ridiculous, and the supporting characters are copied exactly from Four Weddings and a Funeral. This movie seemed to never end - The only Julia Roberts movie I've ever seen where she was actually unappealing (and I'm not a Julia hater). And that speech at the end "I'm just a girl asking a guy to love her - YUCK!! Don't make me puke!

Summary: Four runaway brides who went up a Notting Hill...
Review: "Okay, here's the pitch, J.D.-we get Julia Roberts, right? And she just kinda plays herself, right? And Hugh Grant is the male lead, and..." That's probably all the producer needed to hear before he okayed this project, thinking to himself ("We'll worry about a script later..."). I usually shrink back in revulsion when I see trailers for Julia Roberts films, but I must admit that if you just turn off the "logic" circuits in your brain, you'll find "Notting Hill" a pleasant enough 2-hour diversion. The actors portraying Grant's screen family are amusing, particularly during the obligatory "meet my colorful and wacky relatives" dinner scene. Roberts and Grant give thier standard issue one-note performances, hitting thier marks and flashing movie star smiles big enough to cover the gaping plot holes. Okay for a "popcorn movie" mood.

Summary: A fairy tale that could just come true!
Review: This is a lovely fairy tale, and best of all, one that could (maybe!) just possibly come true! The story itself is nothing very new. Rich sophisticated lost girl meets poor but innocent boy, is charmed by his simplicity and difference from the rest of the wolves, some misunderstandings and then all is resolved. The charm of the movie lies in the stars and in innumerable little touches. Julia Roberts as Anna Scott is breathtaking. She can be a regal star one moment and a regular girl the next as she trespasses into a private garden or studies her lines on the terrace. She actually manages to make you feel sorry for her way of life; suddenly you begin to think that the glamour may not really compensate for the endless glare of publicity and the everlasting pressure to be beautiful. One line of hers always grabs me, when she tells Grant "..I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her..". For my money, Julia holds the movie together but then, I am a fan of hers. I must say that all my female friends melted into a puddle over Hugh Grant's little lost boy mannerisms. The said mannerisms actually annoy me, but the understated British humor is neat and subtle. The supporting characters depicted are also everyday people with their quirks and twists and they give the movie a strong foundation. As for Spike, the incorrigible flatmate, he is simply mind blowing (would you believe he is actually a professor in real life?). All in all, a move that you can see more than once, preferably with a special someone. At the end, an uneasy question arises: so far so good but would this really last? Well fortunately for fairy tales, the movie ends at the right point! Highly recommended, don't miss this one.

Summary: Good but too similar to 4 Weddings
Review: If you are a fan of 4 Weddings & a funeral, then you will probably like this movie as well.

Filmed in the Notting Hill area of London, it pairs a famous American actress (Roberts) with a travel book store owner (Grant). Grant remains his quirky self in this movie as he has in previous movies. Roberts shows a different side of her acting by playing someone vunerable.

The ensemble cast add to this movie but it is clearly Grant & Roberts who make it shine. You also get the typical British slang thrown in throughout the movie.

Be on the look out for one scene that I found particularly interesting.... it's when Grant's character has been left by Roberts' and it shows Grant walking through Notting Hill as the seasons...and time change.

The big plus to this movie is the interesting ways the director makes use of "down time" to show the characters getting to know each other or over each other.

Summary: what a movie!
Review: I really think this is one of those movies that will always stay in your heart. Julia is brilliant, she always is, and Hugh is so well in his role that you actually believe it. The Collector's Edition DVD is wonderful, because you have a lot of other stuff to watch which helps for the magic to continue. This film is so complete! it has a great soundtrack, a marvelous cast and a wonderful fairy tale story. Buy it , you'll love it

Summary: A Class Act
Review: A warm, witty, thoroughly enjoyable romantic comedy. The little social situations, in which Julia Roberts is suddenly brought into the midst of Hugh Grant's circle of friends, are just terrific. It's funny that her character's name is Anne Scott -- a woman's first name, obviously, and then a man's first name for her last name, just like "Julia Roberts". People were always trying so hard to be unimpressed by her, or at least inconspicuously impressed... Some how it was sort of enheartening, to see how much self-respect these ordinary mortals were able to maintain in the presence of so luminously, numinously beautiful a figure as Julia Roberts. They did a good job at being hospitable to her, but not falling all over themselves to make her like them. Julia Roberts, in turn, was slightly reserved, but basically warm and human in her role. I liked the actress who played the handicapped woman quite a lot -- she had a really charming way about her... Hugh Grant's roommate was fantastic, he stole a whole slew of scenes as the rude, crude and socially unacceptable flatmate with the heart of gold -- he was sort of a cross between Chris Eliot and Benny Hill. It all boils down, of course, to the love story part of it, and whether it was convincing or not. Well, it worked for me, that's all I can say. Two thumbs up.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: The only reason this movie gets a two instead of a movie is because Julia Roberts is in it. Too bad she didn't have a good story line to work with. Waste of film. Save your money. This is one of movies that you watch on tv and say to yourself, "boy am I glad I didn't pay to see this movie".

Summary: spacey
Review: My brother Jesse turned me onto this film. He's crazy about it and I thought it was pretty good. I love the roomate Spike. The cast works well together but the story doesn't blow me away.
