Review: Quirkily hilarious Italian film from Pier Paolo Pasolini that will have viewers of every age laughing out loud. For those that like period pieces that aren't afraid to be funny, this is for you. For those that don't mind the tastefully executed bathroom joke, this is also for you. Finally, for those that laughed as they blushed during "La Cage Aux Folles" or "Priscilla: Queen of the Desert," prepare yourself for more inspired cross-dressing shenanigans. I sure wish that an American studio would remake this!

Review: Pier Paolo Pasolini's notorious 1975 shocker "Salo" is an extremely well-made, disturbing, and sometimes powerful film. It's also incredibly boring, pretentious, and cowardly. Despite the incredible set design and cinematography, "Salo" fails on several levels. Somehow, Pasolini managed to turn de Sade's most incendiary work ("The 120 Days of Sodom") into a dry-as-dirt snorefest, occasionally livened up by assorted atrocities, including rape, coprophagy, and torture.What's most offensive isn't the graphic sexual violence (of which there is plenty), but Pasolini's choice to make his victims emotionless automatons. Pasolini's refusal to treat his victims as human beings changes what could have been a potentially powerful statement about the corruption of power into a dull peep show. "Salo" fails as art, because the film is dishonest in its portrayal of human suffering. Even worse, it lacks the bite of good exploitation fare, because it's pretentious, dull, and way too long. --Dave Jaudon

Review: This movie makes a deep welt in the minds of viewers. Passolini sets the most despicable acts of brutality and filth in a peaceful/beautiful frame of decorum. Mind boggling ... I just wondered what his unfinished film project "Porno Theo Colossal" would have been like.

Review: This movie takes you beyond any imaginable boundaries of bad taste. I love it! Nothing this extreme has ever been experimented with before Salo or after Salo. I strongly recommend that everyone read "The 120 Days of Sodom", by the Marquis De Sade. The movie is based on this novel, and upon reading it, the movie will seem like a PG-13 adaptation of the book. It's a must!!
