Summary: An artistic treasure of the highest order.
Review: Even now, when I think about this movie, I get a catch in my throat and am able to sense the emotion it left me stunned by so many years ago. And I'm male. Maybe it's because of this fact that the film affected me as it did. There is something about the relationship that develops between the boy and the older, childless man that all men secretly long for, especially those who have lost fathers at a young age. And there is something in the relationship the growing boy experiences with his first love, here one moment, gone the next, that resonates painfully true with most men, as well. Then there is the issue of mortality that the boy, now a grown man, is confronted by, forcing him to begin a journey back to the memories and feelings he has for years hardened himself against. This movie takes us through these stages of life as they affect the main character, the older man who grows to love him, too, and the people who share their world in this small, post-war Sicilian village. And like life, there is just the right amount of comedy to go along with the pathos. Readers, you will not be able to forget this movie, nor will you want to. For its sentimental truths, its visual and musical beauty, for its timeless reflection of life and love and its celebration of the need in all of us to dream, Cinema Paradiso is the rarest of artistic treasures. And thank God they made it.

Summary: A must see!
Review: Every time I watch this film, I am moved to tears. I love the fact that the dialogue is mostly Sicilian--it brings back a lot of memories. For those who are not Italian, this is what being Italian is truly about: family, love and tradition. Forget the mafia movies, this is the one to watch!

Summary: Up there with Citizen Kane
Review: Arguably the greatest movie ending of all time, with Ennio Morricone's greatest score, this one is an all time keeper. I am constantly surprised at the number of people who have never heard of it, let alone seen it.

Summary: The kiss, the montage--spectacular.
Review: Of all movie kisses none beats the one between Elena and Toto. Just watch this gorgeous young man stand all year in front of her home waiting for her to return his affections only to have his dreams shattered with the close of a window.... Not to give away any of the content leading to the infamous scene, their kiss in the projection room of the Paradiso is a cinematic masterpiece underscored by resplendent and moving soundtrack by Ennio Morricone. Be sure to watch the final credits--the montage reveals more than one suspects (last three montage scenes).

Summary: quite simply the most inspiring of films!
Review: paradiso must rate alongside jean de florette as one of the best foreign films of all time ( but watch the subtitled not the dubbed version). For acting and soundtrack as well as visual treats the film can only be described in superlatives. Be warned however that after watching the as-released version for so long the extra footage of the directors cut can be disturbing especially the end - do we really need to know? Enjoy it whatever your cinematic tastes.
