Rating: Summary: Sentimental Review: I first saw Cinema Paradiso in an empty college lecture hall, one of the only to show up for a class called Philosophy & Film. I had no expectations, but I did not think I'd be as tightly gripped and emotionally locked-in to this film-- nothing from it seems contrived or less than sincere. The most perfect description is 'Sentimental', in the best sense of the word. Like Duke Ellington is sentimental. And the original score will break your heart just two bars into it. Perfect.Speaking of: Charlie Haden and Pat Methany play the 2 beautiful themes of Cinema Paradiso on "Beyond the Missouri Sky" (Verve).
Rating: Summary: This film is as close to autobiography as it gets Review: Wonderful movie
Rating: Summary: BRAVO Review: When I think of this movie, I think of the love that was used in the making of this film and about the love it is about. I adore it. I wonder what film won for best movie of the year that year, but I think this movie should have gotten a nomination too, not just for best foreign film. "Life is Beautiful" earned this achievement and yet it seems so over the top, over-acted, too overtly heart-rending, when I think how it compares to the subtlety of this film. I feel hope for the fate of human-kind when I see a movie like this and hear that it draws a standing ovation at the Cannes Festival. The music will tug at the strings of your heart.
Rating: Summary: a wonderful movie Review: This is certanly the best movie I have ever seen!!I have seen it about 20 times.
Rating: Summary: Very special and unique Review: How can I describe it?...I wouldn't want to fall short
Rating: Summary: Perfect Review: I used to hear that there is no such thing as perfect in Art, but it is. After watching this movie over 20 times, this is still the only one word I can find to describe it appropriately. Every scene is put together so beautifully. It's a great pity that I had never got the chance to see it on big screen. I was moved by the music long before I had ever seen the film. How wonderful will it be if I can see it being projected on the huge screen. This film changed my view of movie totally. I wasn't a movie goer before. Now I would pick some good ones and go to see them on big screen. But I'm sure, no matter how many movies I see, there is no one can match the beauty of cinema as this one does.
Rating: Summary: A true testimony to the beauty in Italian culture! Review: We have all loved the cinema and Cinema Paradiso exemplifies the true love and joy that movies bring to people's lives. This is a touching movie about culture, community, dreams, and relationships. If we could all dream like Toto and love like Alfredo, then we would understand the opportunities that await us. One learns that we are all tied to our pasts, our roots. Those relationships make us who we are today and they never leave our hearts. This beautifully cast, directed, and shot movie reminds us that there can and should be a time when we can all return home and find the person who we once were, full of enthusiasm, joy, and wonder.
Rating: Summary: Magnifique! Review: At the school that I attend, I was required by my French teacher to watch this movie. At first I was thinking, "This is going to be another cheesy foreign film." I was wrong. Although this film had a simple storyline, it represented some complex ideas. The little boy in this film, Afredo, was quite endearing.
Rating: Summary: A great movie Review: I love this movie and and is one of the few movies that make me cry
Rating: Summary: Definitely on my "10 must-own videos" list! Review: One of my absolute, all-time favorite films! Having the video allows me to have a "fix" at least every few months. There can be few films made in recent years with such a combination of comedy, romance, nostalgia, history, and incredibly lovable characters. Add on top of all that, the music that I keep humming for days after! I LOVE this film (and it must be seen in Italian).
