Summary: This is what it's like to be transsexual.
Review: Wow. That was me, when I was that age -- except that I knew that I'd get in that much trouble if I let anyone else know. We even lived in Brussels for a while. This is the first account that I've seen that really conveys what it feels like to be transsexual -- and actually manages to communicate it to non-transgendered people. A must-see.

Summary: A Great Movie That All People Should See
Review: This is a wonderful movie that not only deals with the issues of transgender and homosexuality, but also how difficult it is to be a child in today's day and age. It should not be rated "R" and people of all ages should see it.

Summary: "Ma Vie En Rose" is an instant classic.
Review: One of the best movies I have ever seen. It is incomprehensible that it got an R rating - the film is so innocent and is amazingly tasteful. The story is not so much about gender issues as it is about the unwillingness of society to accept those who are different. The story, acting, direction and set design are all first rate. This is a serious movie yet a very enteraining one, unlike the empty action movies Hollywood puts out these days which are suposed to be just "entertaining" and unlike most of the artistically "serious" films of today (black and white movies about lesbians, etc.) which have typically have low enterainment value. If "Ma Vie En Rose" ever gets the widespread viewing it deserves it will be ranked among the great films of all time.

Summary: Sweet and charming.
Review: Ignore the 'R' rating

Summary: Inside a child's head
Review: Don't let the "R" rating stop you from seeing this wonderful film. Its uniqueness stems from its seeing the world through a child's eye. In this case a child who has a very clear sense that there's something different about him. Ludovic is played with amazing innocence. His musings about what it all means in a world of toys and children's games are very genuine. His fascination with the world of "Pam" (a sort of French Barbie doll) will immediately make sense to many gay men who were not allowed to play with dolls as children. The series of crises which develop will also seem all too familiar to many gay people. See it for the insight it will give you into the child within you.

Summary: Strongly recommended to every member of the family.
Review: R rated for this film? I don't get it, it is very silly not to let the kids watching this film. Mavie en Rose is a cute, positive minded, and beautifully crafted film, it is a lovely story of a little kid who wants to live out his fantasy. I believe this film can, somewhat, lead us to understanding what is inside the children's world.

Summary: I was blown away.
Review: I wish that American films had that level of sophistication. It was a wonderfully made film and I loved it beyond belief.

Summary: This Film Should Be Required For All
Review: I have seen this film twice, and each time I was moved to tears. The power of this film hits you quietly.

This film should be seen by everyone, not just because it is wonderfully done and ridiculously enchanting, but because its subject matter is of grave importance.

Although not all of us might feel that our gender is different from the sex we were given at birth, and that when we "grow up" we want to be the gender and sex that we currently are not (as Ludovic does), this is an issue and theme that we must all learn to understand and deal with.

By following Ludo and his family's journey towards accepting their child, whether he chooses to be a girl or a boy, we can understand our own feelings on the subject and perhaps deal with a simialr situation in our own lives.

Every parent and educator needs to see this film and learn from Ludovic's parents' mistakes, instead of making their own.

This film is a wonderful step towards getting the issue of gender transgression into a more public discussion and bringing awareness of transgender issues into our lives.

Summary: Great movie, great characterisation, one of best seen in 98!
Review: A superb, thoughtful movie -- I wish I could see a movie like this every week. Personally, I was blown away by the vibrancy of the colors, and have spent the last hour searching for the soundtrack which was entrancing. Sit back and enjoy this piece of thoughtful, insightful art. I was shocked to read the other reviews and realize that this movie would be restricted. As a dual Citizen (US and EU) I am disappointed. Please see and enjoy the movie!
