Summary: this movie is enjoyable even if you don't speak french
Review: You don't have to know french to enjoy this movie, you don't even need the sub-titles to understand and feel what Ponette is going through.I was spell-bound right from the moment I saw this little girl . The main charachter does such a great job expressing her emotions and reeling you into her depressed and confused pysche. Never before have I ever seen a four-year old act so well. Everytime she cried I wanted to give her a big hug. This is by far the best movie I have ever seen, because of its exceptional acting and its superb direction.

Summary: incredible!
Review: this is one of the most touching movies i've ever seen. most adults can't act this well, and this kid is four years old! it is also a very rich movie - full of symbolism and meaning; you'll never get it all just watching it once!

Summary: Great Film - BAD DVD
Review: I wasn't sure how to rate this - It is a wonderful film, badly let down by ineffective use of the medium. I realise this transfer was probably made on a shoe-string, but would it have been overly expensive to make it available in widescreen? Or placing the subtitles in the "subtitle" track rather than inscreen?

If you are outside the US, or have a multi-region DVD player, it would probably be worthwhile to wait until this is available from France, where I'd imagine more care will be taken in its provision. However, like I say, a great film.

Summary: What a film!
Review: I know foreign films don't always get the best press in the North American market, but this one is a gem. Leonard Maltin calls the ending a cop-out. Not so. I'd like him to explain how he'd end a tragic tale of death, so poignantly written, and even more marvelously acted. I don't know any other directors who could get such a thrilling portayal out of a 4-year old child. I don't even know any 4-year-olds who act so realistically, no matter how hard they were pushed. Hopefully Victoire has a long and distinguished career ahead of her, with many Oscars, and Césars to come!

Summary: One of my top 10 films!
Review: I have seen this film 4 times since it first came out. I recommand it to all my friends. The four-year-old actress is simply unbelievable and irrisistible. The story is also amazing. It certainly captures the very best of childern's emotions. What an awesome work!

Summary: One of the most phenominal films you'll ever witness
Review: The four year old actress in this film (who won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress) will astound you. She is riveting and comptelling and her emotional truth and honesty is so vivid and real that some parts are difficult to watch because it is so heart-wrenching and touching.

Please, don't miss this film.

Summary: Very believeable
Review: Ponette's role is so true to life you can feel her sorrow, and you want to reach out and just hold her. Fantastic acting for such a young child. We really enjoyed this movie.

Summary: Spellbinding...for anyone who has (or ever was) a child!
Review: A gentle, astonishing work of tenderness, subtlety, compassion--like being, if only briefly, lifted and carried away into the mind of the small child, where "magic thinking" rules and all things are possible.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Marvelous
Review: This is an excellent film. Geee...I am truely intrigued by the child's play. They were so natural and it potrays the real life and mind of a child. Eventhough I don't understand french, but yet it still touches my heart and feeling. And this movie brings me back my memory when I was a little kid.

Summary: A wonderful film seen through the eyes of a child
Review: I don't know how he does it, but the director (Doillon) and lead actress (Victoire Thivisol) are so convincing in their portrayal of how young children deal with death. This film is one of the best films I have ever seen! The children in this film are amazing and seldom have I ever seen a film that tells a story through the eyes of a four year old girl! I would definitely recommend this film to everyone, especially if you liked Kolya or Central Station!
