Summary: Brilliant Film
Review: I thought that this film was magnificently done and Cate Blanchett played the part to perfection. I definitely think that she deserved to win the Oscar for this role. Although some of the film doesn't exactly stick to historical events as they occurred (read the book by Alison Weir for a more accurate representation), it was a film well worth watching. It displayed a lot of the opulance I would expect of that time period and the willfullness of character that Elizabeth I was renowned for definitely came across in this film. The supporting cast were excellent as well and I thoroughly would recommend this movie.

Summary: Excellent Movie, but it left me wanting more...
Review: It was visually stunning. The "darkeness" of the time was wonderfully portrayed. The cast was excellent (my hats of to whoever casted them, especially the Spanish ambassador). My only complaint is that the movie told to little, it left me saying "what happened to who and why?" a lot. The movie should have accomplished more, whether it be telling more detail about the story or continue on into the further exploits of the Queen. Please don't get me wrong, all in all a very good movie, I recommend seeing it.

Summary: Ignore the inaccuracies and you have a great film.
Review: Historical inaccuracies aside, Elizabeth was a wonderful movie. Cate Blanchett gives a stunningly good perfomance that I believe could have easily won her the Academy Award for Best Actress if it had not been for Shakespeare in Love's Gwyneth Paltrow. Elizabeth is far darker in both lighting and mood than the comparatively lighthearted Shakespeare in Love. I thought Elizabeth portrayed the England of that time period very well. For me, it was sort of an eye opener to what conditions and circumstances the various royal families and the English people may have dealt with during that time. As a drama, Elizabeth works. As an accurate historical film, Elizabeth doesn't work quite as well. However, I still believe that this film is worthy of purchase for the acting, the drama, and the film's overall atmosphere.

Summary: Gritty but muddled
Review: Several reviews complain about the darkness, but this is surely true to history, unlike most of the movie. Compare Elizabeth with, say, Anne of the Thousand Days, a film that is much more true to events but fails to convey the dirt and gloom that must have been a big part of 16th-century life.

I enjoyed the atmosphere and many of the performances, but it's hard to forgive the hatchet job that this film does on history. To add to some of the comments below I will just point to the statement at the end of the film that under Elizabeth, England went on to become the greatest nation in Europe. What a ridiculous distortion. England had a tenth the wealth and power of Spain (the Armada was an ill-conceived adventure whose failure proves nothing), and was never more than a minor player in world events until much later.

Summary: Elizabeth, despite some inaccuracies, was a good film.
Review: I have mixed feelings about this movie. The costumes were spectacular, and Cate Blanchett's portrayal of Elizabeth was pretty good. The intro was great, and the music seemed just right for the setting. However, there were a few historical inaccuracies in the movie, so if you're looking to report on Liz or anything, I would suggest reading up on her and if you must watch a movie on her, Elizabeth R with Glenda Jackson. However, I guess I can't be too picky about the inaccuracies, after all, it was just a movie. I also think that the movie made Elizabeth look bad, which I, as a great fan of the queen, didn't like all too much, (considering the fact that people who aren't really into Elizabeth would be watching it, and so have a tiny misinterpretation of who Elizabeth really was). But don't call me picky, people, the movie wasn't that bad-a pretty exquisite drama, in fact. To sum it all up, the movie Elizabeth, despite some of its historical inaccuracies, was a great film, though I wouldn't recommend it to someone who was looking for accurate info on the queen, as they might get comfused.

Summary: Nice DVD - great performance by Cate Blanchett
Review: I had heard all the comments about the darkness of the film, but this DVD dispels those concerns. Yes, there are dark scenes shot in interiors, but quite a fewnice outside shots. Overall, the film is very watchable (in fact quite beautiful) on DVD.

As for Cate Blanchett's performance, I for one feel that she should have won the Oscar (I enjoyed Gwyneth's role in Shakespeare in Love, but it just did not carry the same power).

The story may have strayed from historical fact, and at least one scene owes much to The Godfather, but overall I enjoyed the film very much. Stylish, violent and lovely.

Summary: Elizabeth is a colorful telling of this wonderful life.
Review: Cate Blanchett did an excellent job portraying Elizabeth Tudor. I was amazed at the brilliance of this wonderful movie. The supporting actors were a treat as well.

Summary: Great Movie! (trust me)
Review: don't believe the negative reviews this movies was excellent. You can not expect to see some action or romance classic, it is simplythe biography of the greatest ruler of all times and her struggles as an early monarch. If you are into history (esspecially english) this movie will help to understand the hardships and struggles of a queen. Now I must admit i expected something a little bit better, but it worth the time and money to watch. So get this movie

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Not worth it
Review: This movie gets very boring, not worth buying. I could never watch it again, Queen Elizabeth although a great ruler gets on anyones nerves by the end of the movie. Too long.
