Summary: Si te gusto CATS entonces te gustara Joseph

Summary: Pity I Didn't Buy it Here!
Review: "Joseph" has got to be one of the most refreshing musicals I have watched in recent memory. I found myself knowing the words to each of the songs by heart by the end of the tape. A part of the storywriting I enjoyed was the fact that the teachers of the school where this play is being performed turn up playing some of the characters. That kind of tricky casting work makes a musical even more enjoyable to watch. And, the clincher to my purchase of this tape was, it was by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Unfortunately, I didn't buy it here, and consequently spent more and waiting longer for it. Oh well...

Summary: Go Go Joseph!
Review: After viewing my Joseph video with my two year old son repeatedly, we have found no other video that is more delightful and interesting. This video manages to keep both of us completely entertained during the entire run (which is a real accomplishment considering his attention span). I would whole heartedly recommend this video to anyone with or without children. It is wonderful to sing along with or just sit back and watch.

Summary: not as good as expected
Review: I was disappointed in this video. I found Maria Friedman annoying and as others have said weak vocally. Donny Osmond sang great but I couldn't put him visually into the role. Maybe he is a little too old for it,

Summary: Far below expectations
Review: Don't get me wrong, I've thoroughly enjoyed the music from Joseph for years and the several college-level productions I've attended. I had such high hopes for the video and couldn't wait for its release. I was sure it would be a video to watch over and over as I do other videos of Lloyd Weber's music. Sad to say, one viewing was plenty for me. The music was as good as ever but the sets and the staging were terrible, and the costumes far too risque for a play aimed at a younger audience. I was unsettled by, and uncomfortable watching, sets designed to look like children made them with costume design obviously aimed at a very adult and mature audience. All in all, I thought it was a very amateurish production from a company who I know is capable of doing better work than this.

Summary: Wonderfully exciting, beautifully costumed, rock opera.
Review: Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber classic family musical starring a brilliant cast headed up by Donny Osmond, Richard Attenborough, and Joan Collins. Spectacular visuals, an enchanting score, and superb individual and group performancees showcase a lively and colorful journey through Ancient Egypt is a modern retelling of the biblical story of Joseph, his brothers, and the visions that led a young boy from prison to the right hand of Pharaoh. Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a wonderfully exciting, beautifully costumed, spectacularly staged, spiritedly acted, highly recommended rock opera that will engage and entertain viewers of all ages.

Summary: Wonderful Musical For Everyone
Review: This video version of "Joseph" is a complete delight. I never thought they could capture the fun and excitement of the stage version of this show, but they did. Andrew Lloyd Webber's music is wonderful with numbers ranging from calypso, to Elvis take offs to heartbreaking ballads. Many of the numbers are almost impossible to get out of your mind.Donny Osmond is even better than he was when I saw him live, on stage. The whole cast is equally good - even Joan Collins in what is really a bit part. After viewing it the first time, I immediately rewound the tape and watched it again. It is a tape that can be viewed over and over. You find something new each time. I have purchased 3 copies as gifts and each recipient has liked it as much or more than I do.

Summary: It's Awesome!
Review: I hadn't seen the stage production. But had talked to many who saw it. They loved it. So I bought the DVD.

I watched it the first time alone - late one night. I was very impressed! The next day I watched it with my 14-year-old son. He first said "Donny Osmond? C'mon!". He ate those words! He loved it too! Donny, et al, was great. The next viewing my husband watched it too. He liked it (which says a lot for someone who "hates" musicals).

I would highly recommend this to anyone.

Summary: I Was A Skeptic But I Can't Wait To Watch It Again
Review: After having seen two live performances of this story, I was skeptical that this could be successfully presented in the DVD format. I tentatively plunked down the bucks for the DVD and popped it in the player....

This version delighted me completely. You start as an audience member on the outside looking in and suddenly you're immersed in this great production. Yes, it's different than seeing it on stage. How could it not be? Once you accept you're not watching this live on stage, you can sit back and enjoy it. (And, unlike being at the theater, nobody minds if you start singing along!) Having DTS made the experience even better.

Maria Friedman is delightful as The Narrator. She's bright, sassy, and works well with the story and with Osmond. Osmond wasn't the best Joseph I've seen (Patrick Cassidy was fabulous live) but he brought his own personal charm to the part. My problem is that I couldn't get over it being Donny. Little Donny from the Osmond Five... Joan Collins was a natural for Potipher's wife: a nasty, sultry temptress to the core.

The production is filled with lots of fun and the actors really ham it up. They're almost over the top, but that's what makes it so fun! What other Bible story has received such a following and is produced over and over again around the world?

Open your mind and let yourself be entertained by this wonderful production. And be sure to check out the "extra" which talks about the making of the film and the enormous popularity of "Joseph" in school plays! Don't let this one pass you by.

Summary: Osmund is surprising!
Review: Donny Osmund is incredible in this movie. He makes the transition between the young Joseph and older Joseph very well maturing on the stage. Marion Friedman as the narrator is also excellent. I had not seen the play before and was surprized at how much more varied the songs in this are from the later Rice and Weber musicals. Our children from 2 to 13 found something to like in this performance.
