Summary: A Truly Loving Beautful Film!
Review: There are a lot of movies you watch, and some you love, some you forget and some you get disgusted by.You watch them passively. But few movies can claim to be an authentic human experience per se. It is such that this movie was, and is,for me. I first saw this movie in high school as a sophomore, full of ideals and hope.My teacher said this was a movie that would change our lives, and for me, he was right. As I write this review my throat is tight and there are tears welling up because of what this movie has meant to me over nearly two decades. I think of the music, and the scenes. This is not a sweet movie: there are scenes of real ugliness in it. But it shows me that we should never lose sight of what is most important, no matter where you go or what you do. This is a movie about God's love for us, and how we should love each other. You can't have one without the other. My favorite scene is where Francis is in the town square, and makes his pledge to be like Christ. He hugs the retarded man, and in the back of the crowd you see a big rough quarry worker with a tear in his eye. That says wonders to me. When I am really down, sometimes I think of the words from the song: "I feel his love awakening my heart." Pax et Bonum!

Summary: HELPFUL INFO ON MUSIC
Review: I wrote in Oct and have received several emails and am still searching for the music. The latest info I can pass on is an italian Claudio Baglioni ""Fratello Sole Sorella Luna" also " Canzoni di San Damianio Preghiera Semplue". I was told their was no recorded music score for this movie. What a pity. If anyone finds out more please let us all know. I cannot find anything in s.a. stores but have contacts going to Italy soon.I do hope they repeat the viewing of this movie on TV or as suggested onto DVD.

Summary: God Works Mysteriously Still Today and Will Use Even a Movie
Review: Brother Sun, Sister Moon..the title never left me in 1973,from the time I stepped back under the lighted marquee, from the little back street threatre of Denver, into the painted glow of oranges and pinks of a God sunset! Only He could top the Zeffirelli colors. My eyes beholding the continuing message of this inspiring film, I would swear took only 5 minutes to watch. Under the marquee stood, with large featherlike snowflakes floating about them, 6 Franscican monks in a circle, waiting to see the film. My lowest time in life, having lost my husband in "the" battle, leaving me with an 18 month old precious girl, and 2 month old precious boy. God led me to this theatre with no knowledge of what I was about to see. This film healed me. "He" healed me through this film. Overstated? No. I would even go so far as to say Franco Zeffirelli was used by God to make this film for the lowly of heart, the meek. Those who are pained to the marrow by the fight of good over evil in this world. If you need a boost, or need to "go"introspective and discover the truths of why we came and why we have life, watch and learn. I'm not Catholic but I am living. St.Francis as a milder form of Jesus, has much to teach us about the true meaning of life. Five Stars doesn't suffice when a film can leave you with a heart full of hope, joy, and peace. It should be revived and re-released on the big screen. There hasn't been one like this since. It's worth more than money can buy, for both adults and adolescents. Mission accomplished Mr.Zeffirelli. There are those who got the message loud and clear. Thank you for the treasure!

Summary: Enduring inspiration.
Review: I find this movie to be one that I re-view many times and am inspired each time. Yes, there are liberties taken with history. Yes, you can tell the movie was made in the 60s. What Zefferelli succeeded in was presenting the flavor/feeling of Francis and his movement. The love, the faith, the struggles, the joy are presented in an easily accessible and also beautiful way, while avoiding heavy-handed preaching.

Visually, Zefferelli is at his usual excellence portraying the Umbrian valley where Francis lived. The music by Donovan provides both a gentle background to the action and serves to reiterate the messages in the movie.

The movie always serves to remind me of what I'm trying to be about, when those reminders are needed. But even without that benefit, the movie is beautifully made, inspirational in content and avoids the stereotypical portrayals of people of God that generally appear on the screen.

It is a quiet little movie that stays quietly with the viewer long after it is over. I recommend it.

Summary: A Tender, Moving Movie
Review: Brother Sun, Sister Moon is a tender and moving story that chronicles St. Francis of Assisi's life and how he turned his back on materialism in his quest for a higher calling.

Donovan's tender and soothing musical soundtrack is a perfect compliment to the story of this humble and unassuming saint.

This movie is timely given modern man's seeming pre-occupation with everything material, forgetting that there must be more to life than riches and wealth. Perhaps this movie could move us to reflect on our spiritual side and make us realize man's grandeur as God's creation. I recommend this movie to all the souls out there who seek greater meaning to their lives in this very complex and materialistic world.

P.S. I would love to own a copy of this movie on DVD format.

Summary: The Best Movie Ever Made
Review: This is the best movie every made. The music, the purity, the beauty, the innocence, all touch the soul. I have a copy and often see it over and over again. It inspires me when things do not look bright in my life. St. Francis has a lot to teach all of us and his example is right up there after Christ and the Blessed Virgin.

I recommend it to every Christian, non-Christian and non-believers also. The lessons in humanity are invaluable.

DVD Producers: PLEASE RELEASE THIS IN DVD.

Summary: evergreen classical addition, music lingers on in your mind
Review: I was loaned this video by a catholic priest and could not stop replaying the music, was very disappointed when it had to be returned, and for ten years searched for a copy of either the musical score by donovan or the video, until I came upon this website today. I am so excited, it appears my search for a private copy of this outstanding movie and music is about to be ended. With all the rubbish out there how can anyone say the music not very good. It was lovely, please someone ...resurrect this movie and show it again with the same music...and stars and youll see.

Summary: This is truly one of the Best films ever!
Review: In a world in which our kids can not see television without seen any violence. It is truly wonderful to say, that this film is one of morals and humility. Living in such a materilistic world, we see the works and experience some of fealings of this truly great Saint(ST. Francis of Assisi). This film is a family film which potrays the mission we all have as christians in this world. I encourage all to gather their families and let them be inspired by the works of this Saint.
