Summary: superb
Review: This film is a nice departure from American films. A nice, simple, comedic film with a bit of suspense. Will they get away with their scheme? Will the grouchy, old woman foil their plot? Even though I know the answer, I still watch a few minutes when it comes on cable.

Summary: I felt used
Review: The gushing reviews notwithstanding, I just don't feel there was much here. I thought that parts of the movie were pleasant enough, and the two male leads were engaging. But it stops right there. A really thin script, including a subplot about a pig farmer that was as flat as a board. Truly, this is one in a series of empty British/Irish flicks that have come down the pike in the last decade and have enjoyed what I think is a very unusual vogue. The sort of movie that nudges you, that says, "admire me, I'm Irish and eccentric!" Stop nudging! I felt used.

Summary: A Major Pleasure!
Review: Hard to be curmudgeonly about this one! And too bad the term "heartwarming" has been beaten into meaninglessness. I confess at the outset that my response to this film was in some degree pre-determined by the fact that Ian Bannen (God rest his soul!) is the twin of my own beloved Dad. Nonetheless, I found it entirely satisfying cinematically (as a well-done "little film") as well as emotionally. Yeah, sure, it gets dangerously close to saccharine cuteness in places, but by then you've been won over. Who could NOT enjoy: 1. seeing the old biddy go over the cliff? 2. watching a naked man ride a motorcycle? 3. winning the lottery vicariously? . . . all that, and Ian Bannen, too! SEE THIS MOVIE!

Summary: This one sparkles!
Review: Clever story-telling, subtle character studies, delicious Irish humor, and a wonderfully silly plot combine to make "Waking Ned Devine" a delight. I laughed, giggled, snorted, and cried.

Ian Bannen and David Kelly are ~ respectively ~ the brains and the heart of this story, but be careful not to overlook the remarkable supporting cast. Each one adds flavor and dimension to an already colorful fairy tale.

A beautiful and deceptively simple film.

Summary: Good old people fun
Review: This is such a cool movie. It's hilarious watchin the old people try to be tricky. It doesn't have any bad language or anything. It's a quality movie that is fun no matter what age.

Summary: Charming and fun
Review: Waking Ned Devine is a wonderful movie, with a few lags and bad spots keeping it from a five star rating. The characters are all wonderfully knocked off kilter when it is announced that someone in their little town has won the big lottery jackpot. What follows is a sometimes slapstick, sometimes bittersweet, sometimes disappointing story about small town togetherness and spontaneous mayhem. Well done, I say; this is a funny little movie most viewers should enjoy with little effort.

Summary: Funny
Review: This is a funny comedy of a crime. A man dies with the winning lottery ticket. Two of his friends try to pull off a plan of saying that one of them was Ned Divine, the guy who died, and that they had won the lottery. I will not tell you how this ended. Did the men get hauled off to jail? Did they pull off the crime and win the money? I will not tell you. You'll just have to find out for yourself...

Summary: lovely film
Review: i was completely charmed by this movie! its searchlight sister production "the full monty" convinced me to see this one right away. there are similar elements of humor, rural british wit, sweetness and magic that keeps me renting these two shows. i'll no doubt buy "waking ned devine" soon--already purchased the soundtrack! i thought the acting was very good, story was clever and the characters a wonderful realistic delight in the midst of angst-ridden indie films with which we've been flooded the past few years. when you're sick of blazing gunfights, foul language and all kinds of nudity, you might try the gently delightful "waking ned devine." i hardly think michael's moto-ride-in-the-buff could offend anyone.

Summary: Charming
Review: Coming from a man whose favorite movie is The Godfather II, I was shocked at how well this movie worked for me. I found the story very original, the acting brilliant, and the theme touching. Cheers for Waking Ned Devine!

Summary: Sweet and warm movie
Review: I can't imagine anyone buying or renting this movie and not coming away with a warm and happy feeling. I have told all of my friends and family to watch it, and *every* one of them so far has adored it as much as I did. The quaint little village is just beautiful, the actors are brilliant, funny, and much more real than your typical movie. I HIGHLY recommend this wonderful film!
