Summary: FAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: The German Sniper was not killed up close like portrayed in the movie! For a more realistic look at the dual, read The War Of The Rats, Its not perfect, but it is close. The Battles in the movie were quite good and authentic(exept for the end). Like one of the other reviewers, I was expecting a Saving Private Ryan at Stalingrad and was a little disappointed. The romance and the fake ending took it down two stars.

Summary: Good Film, Alright Plot
Review: The film was well acted, and the cinematography was execellent. I felt that the overall film was very enjoyable, and that tracking the lif of the sniper who became a hero was a great idea. However the love affair Jude Law had was just extra time added on to the filom, and it was not needed at all. With a little more work on the plot, the film would have been amazing.

Summary: Should have Set its Sights on something Bigger¿
Review: ...Bigger, Bolder and Ultimately... Better. "Enemy at the Gates" is a Very Good War film; It has Wonderful Performances All Round, Great Direction, a Good Script and Wonderful Production Values. But Alas, it is Let down by a Lack of Scope. The film seems to have Low Self-Esteem; rarely do I say this about a 2 hour and 26 minute movie, but I Wish it would have been Longer. More Character Development, More Tense Face-offs, More Everything.

The Main Problems with the film are its Overbearing Score; it's Slow and Heavy going Second Act and it's Bare Bones Story, like would-be Epics like "All the Pretty Horses" and "The 13th Warrior", this film should have had More In It than just a bit of Romance, Great Performances and a few Well Directed Action Sequences. Without a Great Storyline, the Filmmakers can go Only So Far.

Jude Law, Joseph Fiennes and Rachel Wieze are Commanding Actors, they can convey Every Single Human Emotion with their Faces alone, That Proves a Great Actor. In the End, "Enemy at the Gates" had Enough Excitement and Powerful Performances to keep me Interested at All Times.

Summary: Russians with British accents?
Review: I fell for the hype and went out to see this movie a few weeks ago. What bugs me the most is that every time this movie is mentioned saving private ryan is as well. It is by no means comparable to saving private ryan. The film is often slow and boring, after the opening few scenes the rest of film was a cat and mouse game between two snipers. Another problem with the film that made it hard to get excited about is the fact the main characters are supposed to be Russian's, but they speak with English accents. Not that the acting was bad I just couldn't get past the accents.

Summary: Intense, but a little predictable
Review: I thought Enemy at the Gates was a fairly good movie, though a little predictable at times. It is a good overall story, though, and the realism was pretty good.

Summary: Great cast, great cinematography: Great Movie.
Review: In a very well acted depiction of the World War II sniper battles in Stalingrad, this more or less historically correct account is one of the few gems in an otherwise dull pile of rocks in theaters. Although the final duel seems to be pieced together from a few different reports, it's brain candy nontheless. The story has been brilliantly reassembled from the many Russian newspaper reports of the time to create a beautifully written, visually enthralling film studded with many fine actors and actresses. Major Konig's marksmanship is also very well depicted. This movie is a must-see.

Summary: The best movie about WWII you're likely to see this year.
Review: I already knew the 'facts' behind this story before going to the cinema so my hopes were high. The start of the film did not disappoint in it's bleak look at life in a Russian Stalingrad trying to beat back the relentless advance of Nazi Germany. The movie makes you feel for the Russians caught between a ruthless Hitler and an insane Stalin - you can easily see why Russia suffered the heaviest casualties of any nation involved in World War 2. You understand why Jude Law's character Vassily Zaitzev became the most famous name in Russia and one of the few Russian 'heros' from Stalin's time that is still remembered as a genuine hero by the Russian public today.

OK, the film is Hollywood-ised by a rather unbelievable love interest sub-plot when a conveniently gorgeous female sniper (Rachel Weisz) falls for our noble hero, but this is a mild middle-of-the-movie time-waste distraction and does not really detract from the suspense of the ending, when Jude Law and the wonderful Ed Harris snipe it out in the ruins of Stalingrad. The supporting actors are great (who knew that Joseph Fiennes could act?) and, generally, the film's probably about as good as such films get (well, without the involvement of Steven Spielberg, anyway).

Until I see Pearl Harbor I'm going to stick my neck out and label this film the best WW2 flick of 2001 - hey, the only other real competition so far was U-571, and that was no real competition at all.

Summary: Falsified to the point of farce
Review: Apparently this movie is getting big laughs in Russia. See the Moscow Times for a review: Made in Germany, directed by a Frenchman -- you can't even blame Hollywood this time. Tossing in Khrushchev was a nice touch, but why not go all out and add Peter the Great, Baryshnikov, maybe a few dancing bears for color.

Summary: Saving Private Sniper
Review: A beautiful sniper movie, I'm not into giving out any part of a movie, but I'd just like to say that this movie was incredibly done, because it is quite hard to do a sniper movie, and be sucessful. Good casting, but a bad intertwined plot, love doesn't go in a movie except to create character depth which it didn't do. "I am 15 but my judgments should not questioned because of my age but because of my thoughts."

Summary: Love in War.
Review: I was really looking forward to seeing this movie, but when I finally did I was severely disappointed. I was looking for a SAVING PRIVATE RYAN at Stalingrad, but what I ending up seeing was a love story wrapped around by one spectacular battle scene and a few interesting sniper moments. Jude Law as Vassily is the star of this film, but the most interesting and intriguing character is Major Konig played by Ed Harris. Law has a great role, but is unable to do much with it because of the romantic entanglement his character becomes involved in. However, Harris has no such distractions and is able to shine far brighter than any other actor in the movie. Overall a disappointing war movie that fails to achieve its potential and ends up being a second class romance.
