Rating: Summary: "ITS GREAT" Review: This video is wonderfull! I have seen the video about a million times. If you are thinking about getting it, stop thinking and just get it you'll love it!
Rating: Summary: I worship Jellicle Frank!!! Review: Hellooo Cats fans! Yes, I am one of Jellicle Frank's brat cats-- Etcy. :) The reason we BECAME friends, however, was when I tried stubbornly to convince him that I certainly DO love Victoria, and very much so! In fact, I wrote two reviews about this back in April, and they are still on this page! Jellicle Frank turned out to be one of the kindest, funniest, and most caring people I have ever come across. As a dancer myself, Phyllida Crowley Smith (Victoria) made a real impression on me-- This cat is extremely talented! Talking to Frank about this, he assured me that one day I will be able to be Victoria in Cats, dancing just as gracefully, emotionally, and beautifully as Phyllida. He has given me a new kind of confidence as well as belief in myself. I know that he believes in me, too. All in all, I have been greatly inspired not only by Jellicle Frank, but also by the Cats video, and the extraordinary performers featured in it. I have enjoyed the video for seven months now, and I hope to enjoy it for many more months to come. Still thinking of you, JFrank! Purrs, Your Etcy :)
Rating: Summary: Victoria and Best Friends Review: Some months ago, I first wrote a review for this show and then my words and thoughts brought me a group of incredible friends. In most cases, they were teenagers. That didn't take anything away from the fact that they were incredibly intelligent teenagers, with minds of their own, and no matter how I tried to bully them into becoming Victoria lovers, they remained steadfast to their own CATs characters. Now I'm a Victoria fan. I cannot think of the words that are adequate to describe my feelings while watching her dance, as I do once a day at least. I missed a whole week of watching, and the withdrawal pains were totally beyond belief. But, my five - no - six new friends Angelbratcat, Mungo, Nepathaw (Neppy) Ecty and Rumple and BwayJohn, have enriched my life beyond measure. I know I will cherish them until my turn comes up to visit the Heavyside Layer. I still, say, however, that Victoria reigns supreme among the CATS dancers. Let no brigand say otherwise, lest they feel the wrath of JellicleFrank.
Rating: Summary: And many more stars!!! Review: Cats is the most amazing show in the world! I would love to be in it one day, frolicking around, singing those wonderful songs, and just being the happy kitten I've turned into from watching Cats so much! I love the characters! My favorite male cat is Mungojerrie/Drew Varley, and my favorite girl cat is Demeter/Aeva May. I love all the others, too! They are no doubt some of the best performers alive, and I would love to meet some of them someday. The Cats video is priceless and timeless, and I am so glad that I have it to watch over and over again, because I will never tire of it. Cats will live forever!
Rating: Summary: Blatant flaws make for a lack-luster experience... Review: I have long been an avid fan of CATS, and was very pleased when I learned the production would be put to video. However it pains me to say several things take away the splendor of the show: The complete removal of "Growltiger's Last Stand" was unforgivable. Whether Sir John Mills could or could not play the role, or if the Really Useful Company wanted to save something exclusive for the stage production is irrelevant, the scene played an important role in the story and should not have cut. (Perhaps CATS is the latest victim in the "Hollywood Formula" syndrome, where story-line, plot develoment, and character interaction are removed for more in-you-face, attention deficit, M-TV video-glam splash scenes...) The make-up is rather bland, but this is understandable since the highly detailed facial patterns in the stage production would not convert to video without looking too cluttered. My final complaint is the poor editing job. Certain characters appear in one scene, then completely disappear in the next. (Can we say Exotica AKA Femi Taylor!) There is no excuse for such a sloppy lack of attention to details. Despite these flaws however, the mythos of CATS is still very special and it is a worth-while purchace, especially for those who have never seen it before. For the rest of us rabid fans who were disappointed, it just makes us appreciate the stage-production that much more...
Rating: Summary: You mean I can only give it five stars? Review: I thought that the Cats video was one of the best things I have watched for a long time. Andrew Lloyd Webber really knew what he was doing! The music was wonderfully done, and the dancing was amazing. Ever since I saw this video, I have basically been dreaming of getting a cat. My favorite characters were Mr. Mistoffelees (Jacob Brent), Rumpleteazer (Jo Gibb), and Munkustrap (Michael Gruber). On a scale of one to ten, I would give it a twenty-five!
Rating: Summary: It was not one of my favorite musicals but this dvd is A OK. Review: First of all the production is wonderful. The lighting the settings the costumes and makeup comes across just great on the DVD. One of the best I have seen so far. Oh forgot the sound track is a must to listen to.
Rating: Summary: SPECTACULAR!!! Review: Cats is undoubtedly the best thing I have ever experienced in my life. From the very first time I saw the video, almost seven months ago, I haven't been able to get enough of it. I went to see Cats in January when it came to my town during the tour. It was so wonderful! I cannot even begin to name all of my favorites, but I will say that my favorite three guys are Karl Morgan (Pouncival), Drew Varley (Mungojerrie), and Michael Gruber (Munkustrap). My FIVE favorite girls are Jo Gibb (Rumpleteazer), JO BINGHAM!!! (Etcetera), Rosemarie Ford (Bombalurina), Aeva May (Demeter), and Phyllida Crowley Smith (Victoria). They and EVERYONE ELSE in this production are so very talented and captivating that not a day goes by without thoughts of them. I watch Cats at every opportunity, and my video is beginning to wear out... Well, I suppose I will just have to get a new one then! Hee hee! :) Not only do I enjoy watching Cats and learning things about the cast members from Cats sites, but I have also made several friends who are all very dear to me: Jellicle Frank, Angelcat, Mungojerrie, Nepathaw (Neppy), and Jemima. If it hadn't been for Cats, I never would have met these extraordinary people. The bottom line is, the Cats video is all my sister and I have been talking about for the past seven months... We love it so much! If you're looking to buy the video, then I am sure you will enjoy it, and I only hope you have as much fun with it as I do! :) *~*Etcetera*~*
Rating: Summary: absolutley wonderful Review: I thought CATS was sooooo wonderful!! The dancing was well done and fit the songs well. When Elaine Paige sang memory I almost cried. All the cats voices were so smooth and rich, each word just makes you want to listen more. I thought Micheal Gruber did a fantastic job as Munkustrap, who is my favorite, Rum Tum Tugger was so funny. I loved the names of the characters, they were very clever. I also thought the costums were very cool, but would love to see everyone without their makeup. I can't wait to see it myself on stage!
Rating: Summary: an amazing musical the whole family will enjoy! Review: who cannot fall in love with such an amazing muscial? the people involved are so breath-taking! andrew lloyd webber is such a wonderful composer, and we can't forget tim rice's attention-grabbing lyrics. the orchestra is to die for. being a music student i really admire them. everything is there. true feeling seems to be poured into the music, not just in the mechanical aspects, but in the whole feel. also, the cast! they are all so memorable. even the chorus cats steal the show. all of them are top class singers and dancers. they really help to bring the story to life. kudos to all of them! although the editing may be a bit shabby, it is these people's preformances which really affects the total experience. for anyone who criticizes their preformances, i'd like to see them do any better. in conclusion, this is a joy to be able to experience such a wonderful play in my own home. i really think that it is an investment for a family to see this. it helps expose children to music and other cultural aspects and it helps adults relive their childhoods! this is worth every penny.
