Summary: Pretty darn good.
Review: Well, over all I think it was a good video. Good dancers, good mudic, good play. Editing was choppy, and they cut A WHOLE D@MN LOT out, but it's all right. Now, on the topic of dancers, I saw one dancer that stood out completely. Phyillida Crowley Smith. She played Victoria, which is *the* most demanding female role. You must be an incredible dancer to pull it off, and she passed with flying colors. She has the costume that stands out the most, pure white. I believe it symbolizes her character overall. She jst blew my mind. Thank you. :)

Summary: It just kicks ***!
Review: Forget Cats live on the stage (although that's something!) -in this video the whole show'll take you to another dimention. You'll get closer, have them in your livingroom..see their faces..and you'll sometimes be laughing yourself to death. It's not just dancing and singing -but acting! They are CATS! John Partridge as Rum Tum Tugger..My opinion; he is The Best! The songs are a little bit different (better), and one or two scenes are gone, but you won't miss them! Although there is some mistakes in it, you wouldn't know it if you don't do like me, see it over 20 times. (sometimes in slow-motion)

-You just don't know what you're missing!

Summary: Awesome! One of the best movies I've ever seen!
Review: This is a great movie! Verlee Castelyn was great as Jemima, except for the fact that it wasn't her voice. Jo Gibb-Rumpleteazer, the best! John Partridge.......Rum Tum Tugger. You gotta love him! I don't know how anyone could go without seeing this movie. I recommend it to everyone and you should not let your children go without seeing it. I love it!

Summary: It was pretty much what I expected.
Review: Having never seen Cats, and being an actor myself, this musical was pretty much what I expected; with a few surprises. Unfortunately, most of those surprises were unpleasant. The most glaringly obnoxious surprise was Rum Tum Tugger. Having heard so much about the character, and how so many people love him, I was shocked and more than a little annoyed to find out that this legendary tom cat was actually Tim Curry from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. To his credit, Partridge's impression of Mr. Curry is flawless. I just dont think it was appropriate for this womanizing character. Surprise number two was the choice of Grizabella to go to "the heavy side lair". Now, I'm a Betty Buckley fan, but I figured you were supposed to want the glamor cat to be chosen. In Elaine Paige's hands I didnt. I was voting for Gus, played beautifully by John Mills, the whole time. The one major pleasant surprise was Michael Gruber as Munkus Trap. With his voice and stage presence, I looked for Mr. Gruber in every shot. Luckily he was in almost every shot. I was torn, wondering what Gruber would have done with the role of R.T. Tugger, but in my opinion, he had the better role. But in essence, Cats is about felines that sing and dance (as I expected). Well, they do sing, they do dance and they are Cats. Other than a few noticable flaws, they do it all pretty well.

Summary: A curate's egg
Review: Poor old Cats - longest-running musical in the world, and practically every critic hates it. It's a case of that old adage, 'nobody likes it except the public'. Well, not even all the public - the hard of thinking don't like it because there's no apparent plot (ever heard of fun for its own sake, guys?) and the Sondheim-loving crowd dislike it because, well, there are tunes you can hum.

Look, just take it on its own terms - it's an entertaining song and dance show based (pretty faithfully) around some better-than-average children's verse. It's well filmed and the sound is good (people complaining about lip-synching are missing the point - nobody ever criticised the great movie musicals for this supposed 'crime'), and the DVD is a *lot* better than the video. I've seen the London show several times, and it is pretty faithful to the original. My complaint is that it isn't all the original show - 'Mungojerrie and Rumpelteazer' has a new (and arguably inferior) tune and 'The Ballad of Billy McCaw' is missing. However, if you have seen the stage show, it is a more than adequate souvenir, and if you haven't, the DVD gives a good indication why this is the longest-running musical in the world.

Summary: A MUST SEE!
Review: All right, I'll allow that is didn't have much plot, but for heaven sakes it was based on a collection of poems. But the music, the costumes, the sets, the dancing...all breathtaking and absolutly marvelous! Elaine Page is wonderful, and now 'Memories' is listed among my favorite songs. Andrew Lloyd Webber deserves his fame--and so does 'Cats'!

Summary: Fantastic
Review: I loved CATS. I've never seen anything so wonderful or such fantastic dancing. I'm sixteen and the nicest person ever just told me I can be in CATS, if I just want to badly enough, I can be in the show. I want to, Frank. I want to, I want to, I want to, I want to. Now I'm going to dance every day, for at least two hours, and twice as many on the weekend. And thank you, my good friend. I won't forget you. SC

Summary: Great video adaptation of a fantastic show
Review: This video did a wonderful job of capturing the magic of the broadway show CATS. In some ways it's better than live (the sound quality is certainly better than in most theaters, and the close-ups of the cats' faces are extra special). My children and all their friends adore this video. It is the most-watched video we've ever owned, and my son and daughter are both huge Lloyd-Webber fans, because of this video.

Summary: Brilliant family entertainment!
Review: Having never seen 'the show', and having received several negative comments from others before viewing, I watched anticipating a let-down. My children and I watched enthralled. They are only young, but we loved the costumes and the wonderful characters of the 'cats'. True to say, there isn't much if any of a story line, bur as far as costumes, character and music is concerned it's a winner - we haven't stopped singing the songs, and it's opened up a world of musicals and poetry to my children who are as yet too young to visit the theatre. Hopefully, it will develope a love of the 'real thing' in years to come.

Summary: Wonderful, a must see.
Review: This is a great play I've seen the video and it's amazing how ALW took a 56 pg. book and made it into a two hour musical extravaganza. Light and wonderful. A must see for everyone who loves cats and musicals.
