Summary: If you loved the book, you will not love this movie
Review: I had high hopes for this movie when it first began (though I thought Kate Winslet would have been better cast as Arabella). My hopes dimmed though as I realized how they left out the most important elments of the book. It seems as though they had forgotten about Sue's fear of sex and slight physotic tendencies. In fact, one would get the impression watching this film that she quite enjoyed sex. They seemed to forget that "Little Juey", was called "Little Father Time" in the novel which was far more fitting. I am also left to wonder why they left Jude's tragic death scene out of the film. It nearly appears that Atrabella was an alright person in the movie, when in reality she was quite evil. Do not see this film if you treasured the book. It only angered me.

Summary: Tragically beautiful
Review: This is the absolute most wonderful movie I have ever seen. Aside from being a Kate Winslet fan, this movie literally ripped my soul apart. If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and watch it!

Summary: Does justice to Thomas Hardy's novel
Review: The characters were just as I had imagined as I was reading the novel. The darkness and hopelessness of Jude and the other characters was very noble and well portrayed. I would recommend the film to serious thinkers and those who who are not afraid seeing into of the sadness of life.

Summary: Kate Winslet Rules
Review: Kate Winslet is the best actress in the world she has done so well in her movies and her work is extrodinary. She has proved alot for women in the 20th century.

Summary: Touching representation of life itself
Review: I first read Jude the Obscure after finishing Thomas Hardy's other classic Far from the Madding Crowd. When the movie came to Singapore, I knew this was going to be a heart-breaker. Fine performance by all, well directed, no matter what critics may say. I am 39, male, married with 2 kids.. and broke down at least 5 times during the movie. I have bought the video.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent, Original, Beautifully-Acted, Well-Directed
Review: This is a must-see film. I saw it before I saw the movie Titanic and knew that the Actress Kate Winslet was going to be a star, eventually. For her young age she has a sense of maturity and unique beauty seldom found in actresses these days. I was shocked by the ending by there are some deep metaphors about life in the movie and the ending was an example of one. The male lead, Eccleston, was excellent and expect he will go far in movie making as well.

Summary: an on and off target of thomas ahrdy classic novel.
Review: I found Jude to be often to depressing and lacks fire that manges to get you through scene that where often over done. The cinematorpghy was darky, often to dark. Sven Nykvist would have done a better job . The only aspect that helps you to maintain intrest was Kate winslet brillant preformace as sue. She was the only person who seemed real and i cared about. She dervers a better showcase for her preformance. Eccleston had his moments as jude but not enough of them and rachel grifftihs was complety miscast. Hossi Amen did a somwhat good job of turning the novel into a film, but he often left out the charaters motivations . His sceen play does get to the heart of Hardys novel which is quiet an accomplishment. The music was impressive as well. I also like how the sceen play was not to sentimental. I also like who the film ended. No convetions here. Essanltiy the film was a good film verson of the novel . But it could have been a classic.

Summary: Kate Winslet is a great looking actress
Review: Seeing Ms. Winslet was very enjoyable;however, I found the book to be very depressing.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Brilliant and shattering
Review: Simply put, this is a stunning, powerful and wrenching movie, one of the best that I've ever seen. It certainly is not a party film, but a sober and heavy film adaptation of Jude the Obscure. It never lightens up for a moment, which some have criticised, but I love it for just that reason. Christopher Eccelston is one of filmdom's most intense young actors, and Kate Winslet, as always, is exceptional. Do not rent it, buy it.

Summary: Kate Winslet & Chris Eccleston give a wonderful performance!
Review: I love this movie!! I know it's a bit depressing, but I love it anyway. Kate Winslet is my favorite actress and she gives a wonderful performance. No one could have done it better. She makes you feel what the characters are going through and is really believable. This is a must see for all Kate Winslet fans!!
