Summary: A Defiling of the Great Virgin Queen Elizabeth by Hollywood
Review: Cate Blanchett's performance is as stunning as the historical trashing of the much beloved Virgin Queen Elizabeth. Undeniably, it is another defilement of a great historical leader that rallied her forces to keep England a sovereign nation and the richest nation on earth at the time. Nothing in this film, except the lurid and languorous travails of Hollywood scriptwriters who cannot present something worthy to a public only interested in steamy sexuality, is close to the truth. Elizabeth was a bold, visionistic, and cunning woman married to her people and a staunch defender of the realm. The American public's appetite for sexual impurity in cinema is obvious since we only see a woman naked every fifteen or twenty minutes. Exactly what does the sexual perversities of this age have to do with a great Monarch? Absolutely nothing. No offence to Amazon.com but this trash deserves no treatment except extreme disgust by the ignorant to glory in its travesty of inaccuracies. I am incredibly surprised to see Sir Richard Attenborough take part in making this debauchery of film. He should know better and the American public's appetite for trashing cinema has gone to far. Soon we will be parading Mary Poppins as a cavorting w***e... Elizabethian history suggests ABSOLUTELY no substance to the audacious claims she was a wild young woman before dedicating herself completely to the throne. Only Sir Francis Drake (I believe) may have been an actual lover. Get real Hollywood and stop trashing people in an Oliver Stonian tradition just to make some money and satiate the sick lust for sex of the American public. The film was incredibly well-made but lacks any authenticity or truth which...is the reason we make such films in the first place. Watch Elizabeth R for some real truth and a piece of history. Otherwise, just watch this for erotica or, should I say, cheap and tawdry sex defiling a Queen of Majestic Glory. I'm sure no would do this to a virtuous woman like Mary Todd Lincoln. Well, perhaps.....

Summary: BEST ACTRESS!! BEST PICTURE!!
Review: No words can describe how taken I was by Cate Blanchett's performance...If that's what Queen Elizabeth was really like, no wonder England fell in love with her! She deserved the Oscar for this performance. While Cate is certainly my favorite part of this movie, there is so much more. The artistic decoration puts the viewer right back in 16th century England, and the musical score offers a unique contrast between the dark Medieval church music and the bright, secular music of the Renaissance. The script artistically renders Elizabeth's rise to power. I especially enjoyed the references to Machiavelli's "The Prince," a true testimony of Elizabeth's character. And Cate Blanchett, I'll lay my coat down in a puddle any day for you!!!

Summary: I am incapable of expressing my love for this film
Review: What a remarkable masterpiece this is. Cate Blanchett deserves all respect and honor for her heartwrenching portrayal of Elizabeth, as she struggles to take control of her life and of her country. The atmosphere in this film is so fitting and underlies every instant of action. (Please go read my review of this movie at http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Guild/7576/Rach/elizabeth.html)

Summary: The Wonderful Cate
Review: Elizabeth is one of the most beautiful portrayed historical movies I have ever seen, all because of the beautiful Cate Blanchet. "Common sense is a most English virtue," and you do not have any if you do not see this movie!

Summary: Cate Blanchett Rules
Review: 'Elizabeth' is a compelling and intruiging, but not quite satisfying film. The script lacks precision; and the direction is mediocre. What saves this film is a commendable cast; and of course Cate Blanchett in one of the best performances of 1998.

Summary: INTRIGUE, INTRIGUE, INTRIGUE!!
Review: There have been very few movies in my 45 years that I have felt carried away by. This one grabs you from the opening moments. My ancestry is Engish, but I have always been bored with English history until this movie. Although this movie is not exact in it's historical content, (Walsingham did not murder Mary Queen of Scots, etc.) It does however capture the intrigue of the conspiracy against Elizabeth. I found myself not knowing who to believe or trust. I also found myself really caring about Elizabeth and her safety. This one is really a thriller.

Cate Blanchett should have won the Oscar for her portrayal of Queen Bess. I can see that most everyone here agrees. She took my breath away. Can't wait to get my own copy.

Summary: Best ever
Review: It's a joke that Oscar best actress fell into so-called America sweet heart instead of truly excellent actress. I think those judges need go home and get more real education before they vote. Cate is excellent. You will believe once you watch it.

Summary: Australian Cate Blanchet Shines
Review: This is a beautiful film, with fantastic acting, that deserved more academy awards - certainly Best Actress. The great Aussie talent, makes me proud, and is just a small example of the acting talent we have here. Fantastic, though I don't know how many times I could sit through some scenes. Also deserved an Oscar for best Score

Summary: bad history, amazing iconography and fabulous performances
Review: Take it for granted that this film is NOT a history lesson. But as a lesson in how to create an icon, this film is amazing.

Beautifully shot and acted, this film is worth seeing.

Cate Blanchett and Geoffrey Rush are superb, Joseph Fiennes is adequate (though his performance was too similar to his "William Shakespeare" for my taste).

Summary: Cate Blanchett: A Legend
Review: Cate Blanchett is an actress of legendary proportions. She is deserving of every accolade bestowed upon her. Her portrayal of "Elizabeth" is extraordinary.
