Summary: My very favorite movie
Review: I am lucky enought to live in a city that has an excellent independent cinema and was able to see this on the big screen when it was first released. It was immediately, and remains my very favorite movie. It is so beautiful. It made me so grateful to be a woman and a daughter in a long line of brave, independent women. I don't rent a lot of movies and never buy them (I prefer to go to the cinema) but I own this on video and I want a DVD player just so I can buy this DVD.

Summary: just a plain ol' good movie
Review: Don't get too bogged down trying to figure out what it means that this film is a "postmodernistic depiction of stark Flemish neo-realism," etc., etc. The bottom line is that this is just a really fine movie. It is smart, funny, wonderfully acted, and often beautifully shot. The world created in "Antonia's Line" is offbeat, whimsical, and charming. There is a sense that life in this film is profoundly just and always accepting and full of love for others. I wish the real world was like this movie! As soon as I finished it, I wanted to watch it again or something else like it - unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any other film that is quite like it.

Summary: Antonia's Line
Review: Antonia's Line is one of the most heart warming and inspirational movies I have seen. It is a beautiful movie about women, their lives, and their relationships with each other. You will fall in love with every single character in the movie!

Summary: Worth A Watch.
Review: Antonia's Line wasn't a bad film. To my knowledge, the only other Dutch film I've seen besides this would be Soldier of Orange with Rutger Hauer--that's also a pretty good movie. One thing I enjoy about European films like Antonia's Line would be the fact that they're not afraid to do things differently. This movie deals with a lady (along with her daughter) who comes back to her hometown after being away for some time. I won't say anything else about the plot besides that. The acting in this film is better-than-good. The cinematography is also quite nice. This movie is worth a watch.

Summary: Brilliant Flemish-Netherlands Post-Neo Modernistic Humanism.
Review: The film, Antonia's Line, is an excellent lineal voyage through postmodernistic Netherlands life, as filmed in Flanders. The film's stark realism, reminds us how life truly is, without the distorting blindfold of Hollywood. A work of true magnitude!

Summary: Another excellent Dutch-Belgian result of high-quality movie
Review: This movie is proof of how intense, realistic, true and insightful the Flemish Belgians and their northern Dutch neighbours really are. It opens a cultural smorgasbord of ingenious screenwriting, superb and unsurpassable acting, and raw but meaningful history in the generational thread of this family. Americans should be exposed more to this breed of film.

Summary: I NEVER LIKED DUTCH MOVIES TILL NOW
Review: Here we have a brilliantly constructed film about womans ruin. I can safely say that this film never had any disregard for the viewer. It maintains pace and story and some real off the wall acting. Antonia's Line is a film that leaves you in shock after watching it. I really think its a great film. Antonia's Line is Captivating.

Summary: Part Fairy Tale, Part Family History
Review: Although this movie is (I believe) Dutch, the style reminds me a lot of something out of a Gabriel Garcia Marquez novel. It centers on a multi-generational family, but focuses on whimsical and story-like characters. The women (Antonia and her line) are strong, and unique and original, and the heart behind the tale is good. I can see how some may be offended by some of the content, but I can't see a shred of ill will in this story. Even the harsher plot lines have a point to them.

Summary: Antonia's Line is magnificent!!!
Review: I absolutely loved this movie. It has all the essential elements of a great movie and appeals to everyone. The cinematography is beautiful and the character development is superb. This movie displays a positive attitude towards death and dying- life goes on and a person forever lives in the memories of those they leave behind. The feminist overtones in this movie are progressive without being in your face, so it will appeal to all(both men and women)- I hate using this term, but its not a chick flick. Antonia's Line has a healthy(very non-American) attitude towards sex and relations between genders. The comedy and drama in this movie are outstanding-not cheesy and outlandish as in many Hollywood films, but neither are they too subtle, out of place, or non-existent as in many other foreign films. Buy this movie- you will not be disappointed!

Summary: A comic-dramatic film about the lifes of a family
Review: This film is not so much a look at the circle of life and death but the women who live it and the lives that they touch. It does not take the usual route of portraying their strength as products of a repressive society. Rather, they are each unique and strong because they are allowed to be who they are.

The humorous and tragic moments in the film are doubly effective because it is so unexpected (kudos to the scriptwriter and director). For this reason, I will not give examples. You must see it!

For those that do not like "women films," you might still want to give this movie a try because the movie is not about women but of women. Unlike some Hollywood productions, this film does not overtly try to tug at your heartstrings at every possible moment.

The cast is also great. They are superb actors. And there are some very interesting supporting characters in this story. For example, the Mad Madonna who barks at the full moon.
