Summary: Excellent Historical Romance
Review: This video was a surprise - a very pleasant surprise! It has romance that rivals the latest Titanic movie and action to rival Brave Heart. Lady Jane was a remarkable human being.

Summary: It's not about tragedy! - It's about victory!
Review: I don't usually do reviews, but I had to. Yes, there is romance, great acting, insight into history (though some of it is inaccurate), etc. The life and testimony of this young lady takes us above the mundane, to the eternal reality of life. At such a young age she was resolute in standing firm for the truth before all the earthly powers that existed, and at the risk of her life. She believed that we can spend eternity in heaven with God not because of the things we do, but for faith in what Jesus Christ did for us. She was a martyr. It may have seemed like a tragedy to those who see with only temporal vision. But if we see beyond the earthly, we witness the victory of a life of faith which does not end, but lives eternally with no more pain or tears.

Summary: Cannot believe its been there for 15 yrs and I just found it
Review: Whether you're a romantic, a historian, a lover of film, or all three, this movie will satisfy you to the core. I never knew it existed. I never knew Cary Elwes existed. I discovered him a few weeks ago and am in the process of viewing the all movies in which he appeared. This film, by far, is his shining star. Both Helena Bodham-Carter and Elwes are perfect as doomed, idealistic lovers. The innocence with which they portray their characters will make you weep throughout the film. It will also most likely make you sad to not have experienced the sort of love they share. There are a few minor drawbacks: first, you might do like me -- rewind the tape again and again; secondly, the video is horribly priced so no one can afford to own it for continued viewing. Unfortunately, I'll probably spend that much money in rental fees alone.

Summary: One of the best-made movies I've seen
Review: While I will agree with anyone that this movie's makers were less than true to history regarding the relationship of Jane and Guilford, I think they did an incredible job otherwise of re-creating the 15th century, the series of heartbreaking ironies that put Jane on the throne, and most of all, the personality of Lady Jane Grey. This movie inspired me to study and learn more about her tragic life, such as the fact that she is listed in Foxe's Book of Martyrs for her choice of death over recanting her beliefs. A sweeping epic, beautifully subtle and detailed, and heartwrenchingly sad.

Summary: A beautiful, slighty inaccurate, film
Review: I rented this movie only to see a young Cary Elwes but ended up seeing a lot more than that. "The soul takes flight to the world that is invisible, but there arriving she is sure of bliss, and forever dwells in paradise." Hearing this stated right after Jane died made me weep harder. Whatever historical inaccuraces this movie may contain it still tells of a beautifull romance between to people and that should not be berated. I love this movie for the fine acting, not only by Elwes, but by Bonham-Carter as well.

Summary: Tragic but wonderfully crafted historical drama.
Review: This is a wonderfully put together account of the 9 days Queen of England,Jane Grey and the events that led to her unwilling accession, eventual abdication and subsequent execution at the tender age of 19.The superb cast is led by a petite Helena Bonham-Carter in the title lead and Cary Elwes in his leading debut role.Although some licence was taken regarding the historical portrayals and the events that unfolded during that period in history this does not detract from the theme of the film. And there are excellent portrayals from John Wood as the scheming and ruthless Duke of Northumberland and Warren Saire as the dying boy-king Edward VI.Cary Elwes as the reluctant but doomed bridegroom Guilford Dudley proves here he's not just a pretty face. The stirring canticle music by mr Oliver should also be commended.Anyone who loves historical dramas and reads history will still enjoy this tudor tale even if you already know the ending.

Summary: This movie is phat!
Review: As a part of my World History Class my sophmore year last year, we watched part of this movie when we were learning about the Tudor monarchs. I liked the little bit of the movie that I saw so much that I rented it later and watched it the whole way through. I loved it! The costumes and scenery are beautiful, the acting was top notch, and the story made Lady Jane Grey come alive for me. And Jane and Guilford made such a cute couple! I know now that in real life they really didn't love each other but i don't care. " Lady Jane " was one of the saddest and coolest movies I have ever seen.

Summary: Fine movie about a very tragic young life
Review: Helena Bonham Carter does a superb job portraying one of the most tragic characters in history, Lady Jane Grey, otherwise known as "the Nine Days Queen". Her soft innocence and vulnerability are convincing and heart rendering. You also get to see a very very young Cary Elwes providing a fine supporting role as her doomed husband and Patrick Stewart (way before his Star Trek days) giving an equally fine performance as her scheming father.

The story itself would make for a great Shakesparean tragedy if history hadn't written it first. I was quite moved at the cruel twists of fate that were handed out to this young girl. It is also a testament to the cruelty of parents to their children in sixteenth century England. This was commonplace at these times, even if one was of royal blood as Jane was.

The moving and historically accurate execution scene, in which the blindfolded Jane cannot find the block to rest her neck is quite heart wrenching. You want her to survive the circumstances that her family placed her in, and the wretchedness of her miserable upbringing. However, life is not a fairy tale, even for princesses; this is a profound example of the misery that many Tudor woman, including Elizabeth I, went through. I subtract one star for some of the historical inaccuracies, but overall it is a wonderful and moving film. It also makes you grateful that you did not live in those precarious times.
