Summary: It's the truest of all the Austen film adaptations
Review: This is a brilliant Austen adaptation--one that Jane herself would have been proud of. It's romantic, bittersweet, subtle, and has a great stable of acting talent in it. It unfolds slowly, but with absolute deliberation. Not to miss!

Summary: Romantic and Brilliant!
Review: Despite "popular" opinion, this is not by any means a boring movie! Don't believe what the skeptics tell you, that anything not based in our time period or starring major actors is junk! That is SUCH a lie! I think that the acting is very moving, the story is at once believable and beautiful, the cinematography is spectacular, and the ending is absolutely and completely romantic! I adore the leads! For any movie student, romantic, or even Jane Austen lover, this is a must-see! There is always something new to notice and understand with each viewing, so, it is NEVER boring!

Summary: Persuasion - a beautiful understatement
Review: This wonderful adaption shows what it is like to be different to those around you, and to be persuaded to take life in a direction you regret. Finally, true friendships, love and understanding burst through. Filming is on location in some cases, and beautifully - if understatedly - photographed, with some hand-held shots illustrating uncomfortable surroundings. Acting is excellent. The music is appropriate and not obtrusive.

Summary: Wonderful for all romantics
Review: I loved this movie, especially the end. I wanted so much to jump into the picture at that very moment. A great movie to watch when you are feeling a little down.

Summary: What a love story!
Review: I was entranced during this entire film. Yes, the dialogue is sometimes fast and hard to understand, but staying with it reaps great rewards. I loved the cast. It is so refreshing to watch a film with "real" people as actors, not the famous faces we see everyday. The setting and costume transported me back in time, and the subtle ways the characters looked at each other was priceless. I can't say enough about this film.

Summary: Great if you don't like plot, direction, costume design.....
Review: What is the deal with this movie? If you don't like it, you are accused of being impatient and brutish. I dare say it is the worst book adaptation I have ever seen (except maybe Northanger Abbey)

The director seems to think that dramatic gazes can take the place of actual, you know, plot. I totally agree with the other 1 star reviews, the leads are decades too old to be playing the parts. What really annoyed me, though, was the apparent opinion of the director and set designer.

They seemed to believe that rich children of baronets would ride in what is apparently a pigcart to visit their 50 year old sister who lives in a hovel stolen from the set of "Ladyhawke".

The direction is choppy, I had to refer to the book to find out about the relationship between Mrs. Clay and another character. (I won't give away the ending even of a bad movie) Captain Wentworth is, frankly, a brutish boor who I cannot understand any woman ever in her life being attracted to. He seems the sort to hit his wife. The way he shoves Anne into the buggy... EWW! FREAK!

Captain Benick, is especially miscast, played by a Meatloaf's long-lost brother. The thought of young Louisa Musgrove and him... GROSS!

What really takes patience and brainpower is the 70's version. While not perfect it is better cast and acted. What this tale needs is another remake.

And by the by, my pulse is fine, how's your head?

Summary: Be Patient
Review: This is a fantastic movie! However, if you are not accustomed to the accent the plot may be difficult to understand upon your first viewing. However, once you get used to it, it is a beautiful production of a great book. A book is almost always better than a movie (with the notable exceptions of BBC's Pride and Prejudice, and the Joy Luck Club) but this movie comes very close. It is true to the original, so if you are a high school or college student who has to read this for a class -- the movie will get you a B paper. I very strongly suggest that you read the book as well, even if you aren't a student. If you don't love the ending, please check your pulse.

Summary: Take the time to watch this wonderfully romantic movie.
Review: Persuasion has long been one of my favorite Jane Austen books, so I wasn't hard pressed to watch the movie. I have to admit I wasn't taken in by the cast selected to portray Anne Elliot or Captain Wentworth, but this changed very quickly. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Anne's beauty blossom as the story began to unfold. At first she seemed "too good" putting up with so much from her embicile father. How did she manage to come from that family? I loved the expression in her eyes, wow! How could you not be totally swept away by the ending. Incredible passion displayed on film. Please watch this movie you will not be disappointed!

Summary: OH! To fall in Love, again, with the same person!
Review: I own my own copy and watch it every chance I get.The movie is such a classic romantic movie. Anne has become a very plain person over the years, but when Captain Wentworth comes back into her life, she flowers again. When she reads the letter from Captain Wentworth, I hold my breath, everytime! She knows then he has never stopped loving her. At the end the faces of her sister and Mr. Elliot are priceless.

Summary: Good Attempt
Review: This version of Persuasion was generally faithful to Jane Austen's book. Good acting on the part of Amanda Root and Ciaran Hinds. However, some of the camera work was uneven and choppy. Amanda root is some what plain for the role of Anne and often looks tired and worn-out. The music is excellent, and fits perfectly to the mood. I commend the attempt, though with the past excellent BBC productions in mind (Pride and Prejudice) it is not up to par.
