Rating: Summary: Erotica for highbrows Review: The off-kilter narrative results in less dramatic pleasure than one might have hoped for, but "Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love" is probably the closest thing we'll ever have in the cinema to a Bertolucci adaptation of "Beauty's Release." This is an opulent, visually seductive work that features not only sexy set-pieces like the naughty wedding-night or the (blessedly) de rigeur scene of Sapphic reconciliation, but also a great many moments of off-hand erotic lushness; needless to say, this kind of film wouldn't work without attractive extras and an unrelenting spell of sensuousness that afflicts the entire cast, and Nair astutely delivers on these points. This all-enveloping sense of erotic awareness makes for wakeful viewing, especially with the winsome Indira Varma in the lead-- her saucy manner and sexual charisma rival Annette Bening in her earlier, sexier films. Lovely (and hot)!
Rating: Summary: Tantrically, a great film Review: This movie was a boon to those of us who understand tantric yoga and to those of us who know there is more to love than just sex.
Rating: Summary: Is this an Indian joke? Review: This film is not about sex. If it had been about sex, it would have had at least a central point of universal attention, which it lacks. The story is so uninteresting that I can't imagine why people find it so compelling. A soap opera is more compelling. Is this movie is about love? I thought love was great, but this movie made me doubt if that's true. If interested in Indian stories, better check Pasolini's Arabian Nights.
Rating: Summary: Luminously beautifull! Review: This is definitely the most beautiful and influential movie I have ever seen. It is not really about a plot...this film will simply entice you with the lucid and luminous quality of its casts and cunematography. Its music is also equally mesmerizing. This film leaves you feeling beautiful and sensuous. It is exactly what its title says: Kama Sutra, meaning "the Teaching of Love". It teaches you how you should use your body language in order to spark with luminous beauty. Just watch it and see yourself completely mesmerized.
Rating: Summary: Compelling Review: I found this movie to be extremely moving. Although it does display some sexual content, it is not about sex, but love. Once I started watching it, I could not stop and then I cried.
Rating: Summary: Incredibly vivid and erotic....lush and stunning... Review: While there is some question of plot, I think that the simplicity of the love story is one retold in faerie tales throughout history, and this was very much like a faerie tale. I found the movie erotic, stunning, and sensuous. The photography was brilliant and the scenary and sets, incredible. As a theatre major, I myself, found the acting quite acceptable. This is definitely not porn--if you're looking for pure T&A, I wouldn't rent or buy this movie...but if you appreciate erotica with a lovely story behind it, then definitely watch this film.
Rating: Summary: Lovely in every sense of the word! Review: Beautiful cinematography! Beautiful, gorgeous actors and actresses! Sensual, well paced storytelling! The only thing that I didn't care for in this one was the lukewarm romance between Maya and the sculpure. I just didn't feel anything when they were on the screen together. Nonetheless, this was a masterpiece and was far better than "Like Water for Chocolate".
Rating: Summary: STUNNING! Review: THIS MOVIE IS SO BRILLIANTLY BEAUTIFUL. IT'S LIKE A FAIRY TALE. THE ACTING IS SUPERB AND THE STORY IS CLASSIC...AND THE BREATHTAKING CINEMATOGRAPHY ALONE IS ENOUGH TO MAKE THIS MOVIE A MUST-SEE. YOU WILL BE TRANSPORTED INTO ANOTHER WORLD, ANOTHER TIME; IT'S AMAZING.
Rating: Summary: Incredible movie Review: This is one of the most outstanding movies I have ever seen. Maybe it is a woman's movie, but I feel it captures the very essense of sexuality and true love. Incredible set designs and casting. A movie I have watched over and over again. What a disappointment if you miss this one.
Rating: Summary: Pretty Good Review: Kama Sutra:A Tale Of Love is a film that has a wonderful design, from the music to the sets, to the characters. The two leads are beautiful(Indira Varma, and Sarita Choudhury). The problem with this film is that all of the effort was put into the design of the film, and not the plot. The film does have some interesting parts to it, but it is uneven. It is still worth a look. It makes me wonder ... if this film was named "A Tale Of Love", instead of Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love, would this film had made more sense. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER REVIEWS.
