Summary: Wonderful movie, but the DVD sound was VERY disappointing!
Review: I agree with the other reviews. I had been anticipating this release for some time only to be really disappointed in the quality (or lack thereof) on the "remastered Dolby 5.1" sound. John, Paul, George, and Ringo are still the Fab Four, and they deserve better than this release. Why do the people running the entertainment industry have such contempt for their artists and their customers?

Summary: The real truth about the aspect ratio of this movie
Review: I have read a lot of reviews which criticize the cuts made upside and downside to the movie to make it look like a panoramic picture. But none of that comments was really correct. The film was shot in a semi-panoramical process which gave an aspect ratio of 1,37:1. Although MIRAMAX claims the movie is provided with an aspect format of 1,66:1 (which would cut a little part of the image) this is not true. It has been formatted for 16x9 TVs, so, it has an 1,85:1 aspect ratio. To obtain this, a lot of image of the film has been cut. But it was also cut in the MPI edition and all the previous VHS editions, in that cases by the left and the right sides to obtain an aspect ratio of 1,33:1. None of the two editions show the movie as it was shot. And the "restored sound" is not very good, that is true. The only DVD company which really uses to show the old movies as they were conceived is MGM (which, during some time had the rights of distribution of "A Hard Day's Night"; what a pitty that things changed!).

Summary: A Classic Film.....A Not Quite Up To Snuff DVD.
Review: Let's face it,as a film, "A Hard Day's Night" cannot be improved on. ( Well,okay,the upgraded sound is an exception. ).And this DVD contains the complete film. Fair enough. So where do the flaws appear? It's the choice of "bonus" material. Yes,the collection of Martin Lewis interviews with everyone from Director Dick Lester,Sir George Martin,film co-stars like,John Junkin, Anna Quayle & Jeremy Lloyd,photographer Robert Freeman,and even Klaus Voorman,are a lot of fun,and shed some interesting and fresh perspectives.( And all these people look remarkably well.).But,that's all we get: new interviews. No real "new" material from the vaults,and not nearly enough Victor Spinetti! What is missing: "I'll Cry Instead" the original proposed intro.montage.( As re-inserted in the 25th Anniversary theatrical re-release,and included on the video version. ). The original film trailer. ( Also included on previous releases.)And most annoyingly,a 5 minute deleted scene featuring Paul talking to an actress.( Referred to numerous times by several of the interviewees! ). Including the "Standing,Sitting,Jumping Up & Down" film,would also have been nice,since it technically inspired Dick Lester's vision for "A Hard Day's Night".( Especially since we are teased with exerpts,through out the interviews with Dick Lester.) This DVD set is a nice addition for any Beatle fan's collection,but be fore-warned,it's not quite as complete as it should've been.

Summary: Looks Good, Sounds Terrible
Review: I bought "A Hard Day's Night" and I am really disappointed. It would not play in my Toshiba Carousel DVD player. The added interviews (filler) do not interest me. The mono soundtrack had some type of weird phasing sound when I played it on an Apex DVD player connected to my stereo TV. To make sure I wasn't hearing things, I played it on my desktop PC DVD player through studio monitors. The remastering sounds like it was heavily processed with noise reduction, and then the lows and highs were boosted.

Review: This movie is the best movie the Beatles have ever made. They are all so witty! (Especially John). I know this is a horribly horrible review, but I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Summary: Great companion to the original DVD release
Review: Still a great movie. That fact has been established already, no need to address that here. I liked the George Martin interview...interesting! The extras on the disc get quite monotonous. They might as well interviewed the janitor who cleaned up Lennon's puke.....all kidding aside...Miramax was really scraping up interviews to make this a 2 cd affair. Other reviews have nailed this recent package well. Like where is the "Running, Jumping, Standing Still" movie and the Beatle numbers not included in the actual film. The sound leaves something to be desired. I prefer my original Hard Day's Night dvd when the sound was in 2.0 not the 5.1 surround. Believe it or not the 2.0 sounded much better than this new mix of 5.1!
I didn't know they filmed this movie in widescreen...my original dvd version is not in widescreen.
All in all this new packaging and audio mix leaves ALOT to be desired and is not a be all end all statement to a classic like A Hard Day's Night.

Summary: Simply Wonderful! Recommended.
Review: Video of extreme clarity. Audio in stereo. Both redone. I'm not an expert on DVD artifacts but none were apparent. All nuances and antics by the Fab Four, as The Beatles were sometimes called, are crystal clear. The Bonuses are great and explain a lot about the era, The Beatles, and others involved in the production of this film. It's sad that at least one project is missing from this DVD set, but in my opinion it does not detract from this set. The DVD stands as a marvelous compilation of good, clean fun, with the worst being the cigarette smoking on the film which is kept to a minimum. Even the bonus interviews are full of positive praises for everyone involved. Remember the party scene when The Beatles are then interviewed by the media? The hostesses would come by with a platter and just as each was about to reach for a sandwich, the hostess would walk away. It was their party and they just could not get a bite to eat! The film also includes some intelectual comedy understood only by mature audiences. Everything considered, I found it to be a great DVD set. I highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys getting a glimpse on how one of the revolutions of the 60s was fueled to explode, the humanity of being a 'star', musicals, abstract comedy, art, fun, and the Fab Four at their finest in their first film. Fabulous!

Summary: A Hard Days Disgrace
Review: The movie is still great and this is worth having for that alone. There is no need for discussion on that. The restored audio leaves a little to be desired, but bits of dialog I had wondered about for 38 years are now easier to decipher. The musical dynamics are piss poor. Meanwhile, the big disgrace is the lack of new information in the bonus portions. Originally expected to contain 8 hours of outtakes and the deleted "You Can't Do That", we are treated to endless interviews by people whose 15 minutes of fame expired all those years ago. There is even an intro to a deleted scene (John Lennon on the stairway with the dancer)... minus the scene. It's just a shame and a sham that Miramax... er, the Mouse, has such low regard for cultural history, the opportunity to expand upon it and the interest of the public that buys their product. Finally, disc 1 doesn't even load in my computer (it plays fine in my DVD player) and their help line is useless. Double check your copy before the opportunity to exchange it expires.

Review: I really enjoyed the DVD. My only knock is that it includes everyone but the Beatles in the Extras. I would be interested in what they tought about the movie and that time in their career.

Summary: the music is okay, but the acting is terrible
Review: some people are right! this skiffle beat band from liverpool is good in music (ok we respected these guys from the past Liverpool, though there are surely other better rock bands than beatles such as Led Zeppelin, deep purple, Pink Floyd, etc..)
The soundtrack of the movie is acceptable, the songs are okay, but the acting makes no sense /terriffic!
Elvis presley was a very good musician and accurate actor who could sing in the movie. but Beatles are not actors that could be included in the film....
