Review: What a disappointment! After seeing the fantastic job that was done putting The Meaning of Life on DVD, I was excited to see the Holy Grail receive the same treatment. We all know how poor the film quality of the Python films is and anyone who has seen TMoL knows how much better it looks on DVD. Not so with the Holy Grail, the video is no better at all, and the sound may be better on VHS. About the only thing better about the DVD is the chapter search. All in all I was very disappointed to say the least. Of course this is just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Review: An extremely funny parody about the Middle Ages. From the Knights of Ne to "za French" you'll be laughing. I guarentee it.

Review: A very funny movie. I can watch it over and over again! Excellent!The video transfer on this DVD is superb. Considering the age of this film it is quite amazing. The colors are vibrant and not washed out like when the movie is shown on Comedy Central. Not really any extras included on the disc, but still worth owning.

Summary: Not perfect, but as close as you're going to come
Review: I think this movie deserves 5-stars, mind you. The 4-stars refers more to my opinion of the movie now. Don't get me wrong...I love this movie with an ardent passion. I remember the first time I rented it with my brother (who knew nothing about Python at that time and thus, suspicious)...and we watched it together three times before returning it to the video store. We felt like we were the first in our general kid-community to discover this treasure of comedic cinema. But it is not the pinnacle of everything funny ever. I may have thought so when I saw it the first time, but it doesn't make me laugh (as much) anymore. Everything that occurs is expected and every laugh is anticipated rather than a crazy Pythonesque surprise (like it was the first time). I wish I could return to that first viewing when everything was a shock and I was falling over from laughter. Movies lose some of their power over you when you have every line memorized (even the Directors Cut). Also: I fear that too many people think that this is what Monty Python was, in total...and they don't get exposed to the even-bigger-brilliance of Monty Python's Flying Circus (and Life of Brian for that matter). Notice I don't mention Meaning of Life. Do not restrict yourself to Holy Grail, rent everything Python (even Meaning of Life, just for the experience) that you can get your hands on. If you get as addicted to MPFC as you are to MP&HG, you may not go back.

Summary: The best of the medieval world yet. DVD Not ANAMORPHIC
Review: Having studied the middle ages extensively, I agree with Arthur Ashe when asked a few years back what movie he felt best represtented the middle ages. His response was..."Monty Python and the Holy Grail". It is as zany as some medieval texts. The DVD version has great picture and decent sound. I am however disappointed with the fact that it is not anamorphic as it has been advertised (several tests on different equipment). For zany fun, I would recommend a view. If you are in for the anamorphic you will be disappointed. I can only hope that this problem can be rectified at some point.

Summary: I'm sorry to spoil the 'fun.'
Review: I had heard this was the funniest movie of all time. I found it impossible, however, to approve of a film that implies that the weight of the African swallow is not well-known. King Arthur, being an all-round Kingly sort of fellow, would never have been so wantonly ignorant of ornithology, and to imply this was so is a gross insult. I also found it grossly offensive to limbless knights, grenade-throwing monks, and other minorities. I was watching with a three-headed ogre friend, and she literally burst into tears at the stereotyped protrayal of her race. (Three heads, that was a lot of tears to clean up.) Only utter lunatics would find this movie funny. That includes everybody I've ever known, by the way, except for a grumpy Scoutmaster and my dour auntie Prue.

Review: I don't care what this yutz says, this was the first Monty Python movie I ever saw, and let me tell you I thought it was hilarious. For fans only? I think NOT.

Review: It just doesn't get much better than this movie, folks. I saw it at the theater in 1975, bought the video, bought the soundtrack. If you're a Python fan, you'll love this; if not, you'll wonder what's wrong with the rest of us. "Camelot", "The Knights Who Say Ni", "The Trojan Rabbit", "Bring Out Your Dead", surprise ending... sound intriguing? Then give this video a try and learn the highly scientific way of determining if someone is a witch.
