Summary: Heartbreaking, moviemaking beyond belief
Review: I read two descriptions. One said, "they struggle to survive and die utterly meaningless deaths" This put me off for quite a while. I finally bought it, and had the most powerful, unexpected, compelling "entertainment" experience I ever had or most likely will have. I literally could not breathe for 5 minutes at the end. I just sat there staring. I made the mistake of watching it alone. The second time I watched it with my daughter, and the experience was even more powerful. What's going on? I am a retired policeman. I have seen death up close, and never had these emotions. I have now seen it 6 times, and it is just as compelling as the first. I am ordering the subtitled version, and it scares me a littIe. Could the impact be even stronger? I tried editing my own version which would leave the outcome unknown until the end, but I couldn't watch it. I cry when all I do is hear the music from the last scenes. I feel I MUST get everyone to see it. Some may wish they hadn't, but I am glad I did. Of all the movies I have ever seen, this is my number one recommendation.

Summary: Very painful
Review: After the first time my sister watched it, she couldn't watch it again for three years. Then she bought the video and we watched it together. I couldn't bring myself to physically touch the case for three months after that. And I've never fully understood what they said because I can't read the Chinese sub-titles! Don't wear mascara....

Summary: Passing this by is like passing by life.
Review: I watch an amazing amount of anime, but I have to say the is my ultimate favorite. The animation is absolutely beautiful and the characters are so well developed that you fall completely in love with them. Keep a box of tissues when you watch this though. It was even sadder the second time around.

Summary: This film made me cry.
Review: This film made me cry. I have never felt so sad. And yet, I was also enthralled and happy to have seen this film. There is nothing more to say. Watch it.

Summary: Here's one of a kind anime that will touch your heart......
Review: We all know what happened back in World War II, but we dont have any clue what really happen to those people who suffered and died. This story will open your eyes and show you what life is. this is a one of a kind anime classic you dont wanna miss! (warning! you dont want to check this out if your a cry baby!)

Summary: this is a well-crafted animated film with a moving storyline
Review: Overall, I felt the animation was above average. The Japenese anime portrays the story effectively, and the deep emotions give the animation a true-to-life feel. The choice to keep the original voices with subtitles is commendable and keeps the film more true to Takahta's original intent.

Summary: Satan would weep
Review: It is a tendency for anti-war films to follow a crew of recently indoctrinated foot-soldiers into the "bloodshed." They display people getting blown apart, bodies rotting in pits, and pass time by giving, seemingly, several hours long speeches in some sort of lyrical nothigness. And while such films are good for winning Oscars, they actually have little to do with the horrors of war. Getting shot to death is the least of evils in consideration of what happens to the real people through whose fields it is the bullets are flying.

For a true message of anti-war, this is the only film I know of actual worth. And while I can't guarantee as you will come out hating war(?) you will definitely feel a pressure in your chest and tears in your eyes. True horror isn't bloody.

Summary: Beautiful Film!
Review: After seeing My Neighbor Totoro, the next anime title I wanted to see was, naturally, Grave of the Fireflies (Hotaru no Haka), both being produced by Studio Ghibli. This film instantly moved me to tears. The characters in this title posses the same innocence as those in Totoro, but their story is much more heartbreaking. A must see!

Summary: This movie is amazing!
Review: If you think that anime is about nothing but big breasted chicks with big guns, I suggest you watch "Grave of the Fireflies". This is the greatest movie I have ever seen! This movie will make you think for years after you see it. It will also cause you to reevaluate everything you learned about WWII. A must see. BRILLANT!

Summary: Five Star Movie-Dubbed Version One Star
Review: Please buy the subtitled version and not the dubbed one. The dubbing is the worst I have ever heard! I bought it once at an Asian market. When I got home and played it I was extremely dissapointed. I really love this film. It is one of the most amazingly powerful and cathartic movies ever made. I cry just remembering it.
