Summary: Not a good Jet Li Movie
Review: I'll be brief, this movie was not done very well. Though the few fight scenes are good, the kid and Jet do a wonderful job, the plot is laughable at best. I ran to see this VHS and it was a major disappointment. The dubbing is awful, and the dialog is even worse. I wouldn't tell someone to rent this unless they were set on seeing all of Jet's movies. Even then I would tell them to think twice. Sorry!

Summary: Jet crashes in ball of flames!
Review: If you're an avid fan of Jet Li like myself, then you will spare yourself the agony of viewing this disappointing film. The fight scenes are almost completely void, and the plot is simply terrible. It truly breaks my heart to say it, but you should skip this one!

Summary: Improved for North America?
Review: Is there a good reason for not including the original audio track on a DVD release? I like this movie. I have an old, subtitled, VHS copy that I have watched more than a few times. I was pleasantly surprised when I read the film's description and recognized it in spite of the oh-so-cheesy name change(My Father is a Hero to The Enforcer! ). It can be hard to read some of the subtitling done for many Chinese films; the white writing over a white background can makes a third of the movie impossible to decipher. Perhaps now I would catch all of the dialogue in this newly remastered DVD edition. But I was a bit let down by the new score and the voice "acting". I'm sure they had some space left on that disc, but if Dimension owns the rights, I'm not sure where I'm going to find a region 1 version of the original. I'm not saying Dimension shouldn't try to market it. The more people they manage to hook the better. But after people have already bought the mass market version, why not give them a chance to see the real movie too?

Summary: The killing of a stuffed animal and the murder of a movie
Review: My brain is still trying to fathom what my eyes have just seen. I usually enjoy this kind of action movie and I can appreciate it's style, but this is ridiculous. What the heck was going on with the fake dog/sheep thing? I know you can't hurt real animals in movies, but it turned out so cheesy they should have left it out. Movies shown on MST3K had better visual effects. Using the kid as a human yo-yo was just plain silly. And when was the mother going to die? We all knew it was going to happen. Hell, I was looking forward to it. Don't even waste your time. Look out, it's Jet Li's Enforcer! Boot to the head.

Summary: overdubs sucked, movie was great
Review: the only overdub that i really bothered me was the guy who overdubbed jet, who sounded like a super hero or something. but, otherwise, i thought it was a great movie. of course not his best, but i felt it was better than romeo must die. true, the action scenes are far and few, but they are all great, especially the big one on the boat when he has batons and then his kid comes... that scene was so great. a few of the overdubs sounded out of place, for instance if the lead villian said "run him over" and the truck driver calmy says "oh ok, i will", that actually made me laugh. all in all, good movie, but if you are into the fighting more than the story, stick with fist of legend.

Summary: Jet Li can act as well as fight
Review: This film is actually "My father is a hero". This is a great film since it has a touching plot. Jet Li is a hidden hero who is unveiled throughout the plot. Good fight scenes and terrific story.

Summary: Awesome Film, Laughable Subtitles
Review: This film is my all-time favorite Jet Li film. Jet's son in the film is set to be the next Jet Li and is an awesome powerhouse in his own right. This movie has some wonderful fighting sequences, though it does seem to drag in a couple spots, when trying to establish the relationships. I didn't get the English version "The Enforcer" because the title has nothing to do with the film (it sounds like a rejected Steven Segal title that a studio exec came up with) and that the dubs are a little cheesy. However, after watching this DVD, I'd have to say I prefer that version. The video quality is barely better than VHS video, and the audio is very tinny, no highs, no lows, even on a 5.1 system, it sounds like it was all recorded in a tin can. The disc seems to be recorded with little to no quality control. Putting the disc in my computer's DVD-ROM drive, the title did not show up as "My Father is a Hero", it showed up as "Untitled". Also, none of the DVD functions are labelled. Selecting subtitles does not give you the choice of English or Chinese (simplified) or Chinese (traditional), it gives you subtitle 1, subtitle 2 and subtitle 3. You get to play around with it to find out. The menus are static images with a single word in English and Chinese for each page/function. It looks like this disc was put together with no care about how it will look. All that I could forgive. The problem that made me return this disc to the store is the subtitles. Chinese film translators, understand this: CONSULT A NATIVE ENGLISH SPEAKER. I hope they heard that. Every single scene in this movie is filled with lines that either make you go "hunh?" or make you laugh. When Kung Wei tells his boss that he has to go see his son perform, his boss tells him: "If you do that, beware your brain!" Yeah, I'll have to watch out for my brain there, jefe. The subtitles were so horribly/hilariously done, that it was so distracting I couldn't even watch the whole thing through. It's a travesty that this was done to my favorite Jet Li movie. Until some company releases a proper hybrid English/Chinese DVD with a readable/reasonable translation, I guess I have to stick with the cheesy, Hollywoodified dubbed version. Sigh.

Summary: Dimension destroy another mediocre release
Review: This is a terrible release of a terrible movie!

For those fans who have watched Jet's movie career go from the sensational Shaolin Temple and Once Upon a Time in China series, it was this movie (along with the Defender) that marked the beginning in Jet's dramatic decline.

This movie is actually called My Father is a Hero, it has been dubbed and cut for American audiences. It is no wonder that many martial arts films are considered plotless and characterless when the US distributors cut them so only action is left!!

The martial arts action is way below par, the kid is more annoying than Macauley Kulkin, and the bad guy's include Ngai Sing, Ken Lo and Yu Rong Guang! These are some great martial artists and the encounter with Jet should have been breath-taking, but there are too many wires and it's a limp finale overall.

buy the asian import of My Father is a Hero, rather than support these butchered US releases. Or even better buy Jet's classic movies (most things pre-1994) + and the Hong kong edition of Fist of Legend

Summary: Strange acting, weird plot, good action
Review: This is a very odd story and is hard to follow. Jet Li plays an undercover agent (police of some kind) who is assigned to infiltrate an organized crime gang headed by a ruthless martial arts master who is played by one of the worst actors I've ever seen. He is excellent in the fight scenes though and quite often surpasses Jet Li's skill.

Jet Li's young son is also a junior kung fu master and longs for his father's return home from frequent trips. His mother has become very sick recently though, and this only makes it worse.

This movie is worth seeing for the fantastic fight scenes, but the plot is too odd to even consider.
