Summary: One of better old,kung-fu movies; Jack Long's best
Review: "Mystery of chess boxing" is essentially one of the better old, kung-fu movies ever. It starred Jack Long, Lee Yi Min, & Mark Long. This DVD is released by Xenon entertainment. The film quality is not quite good, as the picture is evidently transferred from a video. It came out not very clear, but good enough picture to enjoy. The same with the sound and dialogue.

The movie contains a lot of fights as Mark Long, the villain Ghost face killer seek revenge for humiliating him in one past. So, one by one, he killed all kung-fu master who caused it to him, with the exception of one, still living Jack Long. The main lead of the movie is Lee Yi Min, after he is taught kung-fu by his master Jack Long, they combine their effort using chess boxing style to battle the Ghost face killer for the movie conclusion.

Highly recommended. A good buy, despite some flaws. Overall, one of the better kung-fu movie to own as an additional to your collections, as the movie is quite memorable and exceptional. Better than most old kung-fu movies. One of Jack Long better movie, alongside the other one, "Born Invincible", co-starring with Carter Wong.

Summary: Fine martial arts!!
Review: I saw this movie as a kid, and still had memories of the Ghost faced killer. It is nice to see that classy traditional martial arts movies like this are still in the market. Watch out for "the five elements" technique from the Ghost faced Killer (Mark Long).

Summary: TONS OF FIGHTING
Review: I'd say that about 70 to 80% of this movie is fighting. And it's the well-choreographed, long, and intense fight scenes that make this an instant classic. Everything you want from an old-skool kung-fu movie, including the ghost-faced killer and his five elements style. The acting and plot are secondary to the insane, non-stop fighting, which got me hooked right away. The DVD isn't the greatest but it's at least as good as the VHS if not slightly better, but who cares; this movie is worth getting for either.

Summary: He is Ghostface Killer!!!
Review: It is not often you watch a movie, and find yourself rooting for the villain. However, I couldn't bear rooting for the good guy in this movie. Though I did want him to absolutely destroy the guy who kept pestering him. Unfortunately even that did not come to be.

The movie is slow paced, except for the scenes w/Ghostface Killer. The training scenes are funny, and remind me of Drunken Master in terms of the situations (I know, Ninja Checkmate came out before). Even the scenes at the training facility were slow, though entertaining.

I found myself through out the movie waiting to see Ghostface appear again and kick someone butt in order to get revenge. The character development was nice for a movie like this, and it was choreographed to perfection. I just can't say you have a strong bond for the good guy.

I liked the movie, and it was extremely entertaining. I loved Ghostface Killers character, as well as his fight scenes, and the fight scenes through out the movie. I feel it could have been better. Nevertheless it is a good movie for what it is.

Someone else said it's a nice movie to start your kung fu collection with. I would recommend Five Deadly Venoms, Return of the Five Deadly Venoms (Crippled Avengers), Shaolin and Wu-Tang, as well as Fong Sai Yuk, The Kid With the Golden Arm, and Prodigal Son all before this movie.

I'm not saying this isn't an entertaining movie, or it's not a good movie, because it is. I'm just saying there are a few movies I would recommend before this one.
