Review: I purchased this DVD based on the other reviewers positive recomendations and I have to say, they are SO wrong. This has to the dumbest Jackie Chan movie ever. I have seen most of his movies and built up a respectable Jackie Chan movie collection and I only wish I had rented this movie first. Kudos to Brad Allen for his impressive moves, but if i ever meet him or Jackie in my life time, I will be asking one of them to refund my $20. If you want to pick up a good Romance-Boxing movie, go out and buy ROCKY. You've been warned.

Summary: Sweet story, disappointing dubbing, different fighting
Review: I'm sure I'm not the first of 44 reviewers to say this, but:

The story of Gorgeous is, in a word, sweet. It is somewhat of a "martial-arts Pretty Woman". However, I found the dubbing job to be a bit disappointing, in but one regard: It's NOT Jackie's voice! At least in other recent films such as Rush Hour (which preceded this one), he used his own voice (and the audio was on-the-mark). But here... I don't know why he does this from time to time... Maybe because he doesn't have time to rehearse all the lines in English himself.

Other than that, there are some good action sequences, but the fighting is a bit different. The highlight action scenes are between himself and this young American(?) kickboxing champ. And that is about it -- kickboxing! One fight, in the first half of the film, is trademark Chan, involving his motorcycle and four assailants with baseball bats. Quite cleverly done! Were it not for this scene, I think that any action star would've been able to pull it off (the movie, that is).

All in all, I was laughing out loud--by myself--to many of the comical scenes.

This movie is definitely worth seeing--about three times oughtta do it.

Summary: Refreshingly different and pleasingly romantic
Review: Jackie Chan continues to surprise! I have seen almost 20 of Jackie's movies and this is one of my favorites. It features Jackie in a totally new role than he normally plays. But the difference is delightful. It is refreshing to see him play a romantic lead. And, in typical Chan fashion he carries it off to perfection. There are also two really great fight sequences, and a great teaser ending. One of my favorite all-time Chan scenes is the very last scene in this movie. If I had one criticism, it would be that in the English dubbed version Jackie did not overdub his own voice. Still, altoghether, this is a light-hearted, fun sweetly romantic movie with a simple plot and endearing characters. If you only watch Jackie for the great stunts and power-packed fighting, this may not be the film for you. But if you also appreciate Chan's acting abilities and are a real Chan Fan, you must see this movie!

Summary: Worth it for the 2 fight scenes!
Review: I'd seen this video in Blockbuster, but was a bit skeptical from the description on back. A friend bought it and showed it to me, and the next day I was looking everywhere for it (already sold out locally, figures!)

Basically, the story is simple, works well. Don't expect a deep plot, or a very "mature" or "gripping" story. It focuses on a youthful romance and has a very light feel as opposed to the "grim & gritty" stuff a lot of action movies revolve around. I enjoyed the story; I didn't find it spectacular, but I enjoyed it.

Now, there were only about two good fight scenes (the usual Chan antics, while good, don't count here.) But MAN were they slick! Chan faces off against a pointedly-short opponent, Bradley Mark Alan (looks like he could be Van Damme's little brother, so I'll just assume he's Belgian). Chan is forced to fight the guy, with what appears to be a savate style (I'd never really seen it before, and was impressed.) Alan's skill shines, and his acting as the noble-but-persistent fighter was excellent. The two scenes: one where he first meets an out-of-practice Chan, followed by a rematch, are top-notch and definitely worth the price of entry.

Summary: The Asian version of Pretty Woman.
Review: To tell the truth, I don't quite like the story. It's like watching an Asian version of Pretty Woman. Everything is so perfect and so beautiful... It's annoying!

But the rare fight scenes (4 in all) are great and funny to watch, particularly the last one, which lasts about 10 minutes. In it, we can see Jackie Chan's talent as a martial artist.

As for the DVD, the only complaint I have is that there are not enough supplements. The quality for the picture and the sound is almost perfect. We can always count on Columbia/Tri-Star to give us DVDs of high standards.

Summary: Jackie as you've never seen him before... slow and boring.
Review: A horrible movie! don't even rent it.

A ridiculous movie about a love sick teenage girl (well acted)who is after Jackie Chan. Chan plays very convicingly a man with no personality who used to be a fighter and is now a soft eco-dogooder tycoon with goofy friends/enemies. The only really interesting character is the short white guy hired to beat Jackie up. A total of two fight scenes 5 minutes each is all we get to see of him but he really is the star in this movie!

I waited the whole movie for the gangsters but they never showed ... maybe Chan's stunt guys were on stike or all still in the hospital from the last movie. If you do rent it I suggest a drinking game. Drink ... when the leading lady's name is said ... Jackie's friend tries to hurt him but not quite ... during the rocky scene ... afterwards sober up and watch Police Story to remind yourself why you are a Chan Fan.

Review: Simply put, this is the worst movie I have ever seen. Bad acting, bad script, bad action. Jackie Chan must have lost at Mah-jong, and owed some one a favour for acting in this movie.

Review: There's very little acrobatics in the film and it's unbelievably corny and at times much too sweet.

I can certainly see why they didn't even try a theatrical release in this country.

The DVD has an extended Making of Featurette and Jackie is all over the commentary track.

Jackie in a much quieter fairly natural performance is quite good. There's a couple of very well choreographed fight sequences in the film, ( of the one against one variety) and a few moments of unnecessary sub-Three Stooges silliness slips in to another fight sequence which is a shadow of what Chan's given us in the past.

The story is slight, and built upon the most ridiculous of coincidences as it strives to be a goofy likeable romantic comedy.

Occassionally it succeeds.

Don't get your hopes up for this one. You might find it difficult to get through the first 20 minutes or so, but if you can, Jackie fans will find the film a pleasant one.

Jackie is after all getting older and will not be able to knock himself about as he has in the past. As evidenced here however he will remain a likeable, charismatic, comedic film star.
