Summary: Van Damn!
Review: The Replicant proves that Van Damme can really act. He again portrays two people as in Double Impact. He is both a villan and his DNA duplicate...hence "Replicant". Van Damme displays a great range of emotions as the Replicant like a child discovering the world. As the villan he's truly psycho. The feds make the Replicant of this serial killer called the Torch in hopes of learning how to catch him. The story line will keep you watching, in suspense and guessing. Don't look for all of the usual martial arts scenes here.

Summary: MUST SEE!
Review: This movie is a must see for everyone! I am not a Jean Claud fan but this movie was great!I have to admit Jean Claud has not made very good movies in the past couple of years, but this movie put him on the top of my list of great action stars! And believe it or not... he can act, especially in this movie! This is not a very popular movie, but if they would have released it in theaters it would have made millions. I not going to explain the movie or give the good parts away, but if you love serial killer thrillers, with action..BUY this movie! Van Damme did a great job in this movie and I hope he will continue to make good movies!

Summary: horrid..I was fearing for my life
Review: Van Damme in my perspective has gone soft and turned into a horrible actor..he doesnt even come out with movies that hit theaters anymore...in this one..again he has a double..like in Double Impact which was better then this piece of junk...lots and lots of terrible acting deffently down this puppy...along for the flop with Van Damme is Michael Rooker(The 6th Day...sorta seems like this movie is a rip off of the 6th day because when I seen it I was like..hey..sorta has the same atmosphere as The 6th day with Arnold)...nothig but a dumb flop

Summary: Van Damme... AND... Van Damme
Review: We all know that not everyone is a Van Damme fan, and that Martial arts actors have no brains just brawn... well not any more. This movie is uncomparible to any other of the magnificiant movies this muscles from Brussels has ever produced before. Its a cross between "Rain Man" and the "Matrix" with Van Damme playing the role of both a B.O.S.E and a Killer, in the same movie! It hasn't gotten this hot since Double Impact my friends. I would suggest you'd be sitting down for this one, because this will have you crying, and cheering all within the amazing acting ability of the man, VAN DAMME!! Get Ready For the SILENT POWER.......

Summary: Average Action Film From Van Damme - Lam Collaboration
Review: When you watch those action flicks by such Hong-Kong masters as Hark, Woo, and here, Ringo Lam, you just observe one golden rule. As Bruce Lee once said, "Don't think; just feel." Got it?

So, apply that to Lam's latest film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, the action star whose cinematic status even now I cannot still fathom. This time, however, Van Damme exhibits his flair for hard-core action with not-so-terrible acting. You might feel dismayed to hear that he plays two roles -- one is a serial killer Garrotte who goes by the name of "Torch" because you know why -- and the other being a replicant made for the purpose of you know what. The story is admittedly not important; it is those action scenes that count, and "Replicant" provides them, to our surprise, in a fairly good form. I presume to think that you seldom watch a car not only blown up high into the air, but thrust into a flight of stairs in a burning building. But that kind of thing happens in Lam's films, one of which once happened to feature Van Damme (namely "Maximum Risk") in the past.

The acting, if you ask me, is just slightly average, but frankly, I was not a little astonished to find that Van Damme can exude this amount of threatening menace of a creepy killer. Though sometimes his acting as the "Replicant" goes beyound our belief, there is no particular complaint about Van Damme's work. Besides, we get a precious aid from Michael Rooker, whose tough-guy image is always welcome when the storyline sags. Overall it's a (slightly) above average action film.

Michael Rooker himself played a serial killer in a cult film "Henry," and then played a replicant again in "The Sixth Day." And now he is playing an ex-cop who chases the one with a help from the other!

Summary: One of Van Damme's best
Review: While Jean-Claude Van Damme may be a direct to video action star now, Replicant is a surprisingly good film that should have seen time in theaters instead of other Van Damme flops like Knock Off and Double Team. The storyline, which has Van Damme doing double duty as a serial killer called The Torch and a clone of the killer, is instantly ignored as we see how surprisingly creepy and effective Van Damme is as the killer, and how naive and innocent he is as the developing clone. Michael Rooker is great as well (he always is though) as the ex-cop on the killer's trail. The action scenes are very well put together, and as I said before, the acting from Van Damme is so unbelieveably good in his dual roles that you might forgive him for films like Street Fighter and The Quest (well, maybe not), but all in all, Replicant is one of Van Damme's best, and it is a shame it has gone direct to video.
