Summary: Some damme good action here
Review: A cop (Van Damme) just found out about something new. He's had a twin brother all these years and didn't know it, but the bad part is that he just found out by finding his twin's dead body. Little does this cop know that his twin brother was a Russian agent. Since he looks just like the person that just died, everybody around town thinks he's someone he's not. When it comes to the mafia and FBI agents, this just might spell trouble.

Like he did in "Double Impact", Jean-Claude Van Damme once again plays the role of twins, although not as much this time around. "Maximum Risk" might be a bit shallow on plot depth, but who cares? Van Damme movies are known for their great stunts, action, and especially the fighting sequences, and let me tell you, there is A LOT of each in this movie.

The stunts, special effects, etc. come together as one to make "Maximum Risk" a fast paced, suspense filled adventure that all Van Damme fans should watch.

It might not be one of his top five movies, but if you're a fan of other Van Damme movies, then checking out "Maximum Risk" isn't that big of a risk to take.

Summary: A good movie that could have been
Review: Another good movie that could have been perfect, great, better, IF Van Damm would stop jacking off and put some real effort into his work. It's a good movie but it could have been great.

Summary: 'Maximum' Lordage
Review: Another twin movie, but without a twin. Yes! Van Damme gets killed at the beginning of the movie and his twin brother fills his shoes to find out why he died. Natasha Henstridge pays tribute to the immortal that is Van Damme and helps him deliver major risky business! Van Damme acts again for, the third time? It's a real exotic picture and it feels like a jacuzzi. Steamage! Van Damme fights guys all over the world in this one. You could say 'same old, same old,' but NO! This movie has a fight in a fire and in an elevator where the bad guy gets stained toes. Ouch! Cut back to the chase now, Van Damme and Henstridge make this movie work and it deserves to be purchased immediately.

Summary: The legend lives on!
Review: Directed by Ringo Lam (Replicant), this flick is both fun and intense. The action sequences (martial-arts aside) are impressive and shocking. Van Damme takes on double-duty as twin brothers, but his role is moreover played by a confused outsider who doesn't understand his roots.

The acting (all around) is believable, and the scenario is darker than Van Dammes' previous roles. Enjoy this trip on the wild-side, as Jean Claude actually plays a convincing role caught in the middle of corruption.

So you don't like Jean-Claude? Go away. Though no acting genius, Van Damme hasn't tried to be something he is not (Stallone, Schwarzenegger) and he has stuck to fun films that can be enjoyed by all.

Director Ringo Lam has thrown a twist into the average Van Damme film. It's actually interesting beyond incredible martial arts. Yes, people, there is a story here. This is a big-budget, blow-your-mind special-effects extravaganza that leaves you saying, how...did they do that?

Strap in and hang on. This is Van Dammage like you've never seen before!

Summary: Van Damme's best movie
Review: I am a fan of action movies, but I've found some of Van Damme's previous flicks (most notably, Knock Off), to be below average. After seeing this movie on TV, however, I was quite impressed and ended up buying it.

As with most action movies, this one features a hero (Van Damme) who has to kick some butt, aided by a beautiful girl (Natasha Henstridge). The movie starts off with a pretty good car chase, followed by lots of scenes with guns firing and martial arts sequences. The plot isn't extensive -- Van Damme's character's twin brother is killed and he now assumes his twin's identity, only to be hounded by the Russian mafia and corrupt FBI agents.

I've only seen the VHS version, so unfortunately I can't comment on the DVD sound and video quality. Nevertheless, this is a good standard action flick -- in my opinion, Van Damme's best movie (or at least it rivals Bloodsport), and I recommend it for any action movie fan.

Summary: Not bad for a Van Damme movie.
Review: I am not a Van Damme fan (don't care for his stony face and an overdose of martial arts). I happened to catch this at a friend's place. But this movie has a surprisingly good plot, good pace, good action (the car chases could have been toned a notch), good direction and a good performance by Van Damme. I wish he could have displayed some more emotion.

Summary: interesting...
Review: It was an enjoyable film. A couple of good fight sequences. Dealing with Russian mafia was something I hadn't seen done before. Van Damme as a French policeman, is on a quest to know his twin brother, whom he just discovered that he had after he was killed running from some sinister types bent on capturing him. He finds himself in New York City in "Little Moscow" with his deceased brother's girlfriend. The mob who was trying to kill his brother is now trying to kill him. To make matters worse, there are a few crooked FBI agents 'on the take' who also want him dead (but not until they acquire a list that only he can get to). There were some intense moments. Worth seeing.
