Summary: Sub par Jet Li flick with some decent fight scenes
Review: Having read all of the positive reviews on this film, I decided to purchase it since I am a huge Jet Li fan. The movie started out great and it seemed I had a true classic on my hands but as time wore on I realized what a [bad movie this was]. The story is incredibly weak and goes in a totally opposite direction than what you'd expect, favoring badly done humor instead of throwing in some sorely needed combat sequences. The fight scenes themselves are well done half the time and boring the other half. If you're a fan of Jet and want to see a well done collaboration between him and Wong Jing, check out Deadly China Hero or Lord of the Wu Tang.

Summary: Like Father ,Like Son.
Review: New legend of Shaolin. I usually don't like the newer martial arts movies(too much wirework & flaming yellow orbs & stuff). I'm into the old school classics (see Listmania). But a friend recommended this one to me & I went out & bought it. I was not disappointed. Jet Li has a Major Obstacle in this one in the way of a demon from hell re-incarnated to destroy him. Good special effects. Wirework was not that bad. The little kid steals the show though. He styles & poses just like Jet Li. He also kicks some major xxx. New school high impact action.

Summary: HOT WU SHU 4 U
Review: Life is short and the time wasted watching bad movies leaves an especially dark hole in our time cards. Here's a great action adventure that may be short on deep meaning but delivers high entertainment.

The charismatic Jet Li, several times Wu Shu world champion stars in "LEGEND OF THE RED DRAGON" a 1994 production just making its way to stateside DVD. Wu Shu, China's national sport, is largely a performance version of various combat art styles.

And this flick is a great display of Jet Li's skills. Li started his training at the Beijing Wu Shu academy when he was nine, and soon won five gold medals, his first when he was only 11. In his teens, he was already a national coach, and before he was 20, he had starred in his first movie. His remarkable, acrobatic skills are on full display in this fast-paced, action-filled retelling of a Chinese revenge legend that may in fact have at its center a kernel of truth.

When his family and village are massacred by vicious, marauding Manchu soldiers, master warrior Kwun (Li) and his young son Ting are the only survivors. They set out on a seven year odyssey in a quest of vengeance. But along the way, Kwu and Ting encounter a rich mentor who has five young Shaolin masters under his charge who, unbeknownst to Kwu, have a detailed map to a great treasure tattooed on their backs. Soon the Manchu soldiers hear of the map, and Kwu and Ting and the Shaolins must battle the very soldiers who desiccated the life force of his family and village.

A terrific story wonderfully realized with masterly choreographed, eye-popping fight scenes. Subtitled with bonus photos and trailers.

Review: I wish Jet Li would make more films like this one!Forget that modern day stuff!I watched this the same evening as I did the Wu Tang Clan's release of Shaolin Drunkard, which is directed by Yuen Woo Ping.Drunkard had more extras than this film, but the combo was a great one.Check them out together!

Summary: over the top comedy-fu
Review: In the opening moments of the movie, Jet Li forces his toddler son to choose between a sword and a toy. If he chooses the toy, Jet Li will kill him. That pretty much sets the tone for the rest of the movie, which is just completely over the top. You'll get to see 7 year old kung fu masters, steel flame-powered hotrods, wire fu, blanket fu, metal umbrella-fu, and con artists with hearts of gold. The dubbing, so bad it's good, adds to the comedic aspect of LotRD.

Best watched with a group of friends. You will enjoy making fun of this movie together.

Summary: Another Classic Jet Li Movie!
Review: Not much needs to be said about this man that hasn't already been said. He's straight up nasty! I recommend you purchase this movie before Disney buys it, edits it and changes the music score like many of his other movies.

Summary: LONE WOLF AND CUB IN CANTONESE
Review: Pretty good overall. My only complaints are that I wasn't as tickled with Li's pre-school side-kicks as everyone else seems to be and the villian was a little irritating with his Freddy Kreuger visage and that silly silver car he drove around in that looked like something out of a Batman movie. A larger plentitude of fights would also have been appreciated, although the rather Gothic fight at the end makes up for the relative aridity of the middle portions of the film. Still, Li puts on a typically areo-dynamic and impressive display of martial arts with a long spear as his weapon of choice, a weapon not often seen in a genre dominated by swords. While this wouldn't be my first recomendation for a martial arts film (or my third or fourth for that matter) at the very least it's worth a rental fee, providing you don't go with the dubbed version.

Summary: americans know how to screw up a good movie
Review: OK this is really legend of shaolin sense Americans cant handle good Chinese humor. This is one of my favorite jet li movies but if you want to see it go for the Chinese version the English version is missing a lot of the story and the jokes.
foot note I am Irish American in case any one cares and thinks I am bad mouthing Americans. I was born and raised American.

Summary: Legend of the Red Dragon
Review: Legend of the Red Dragon comprises the typical elements of a wuxia film: extravagant and over-the-top fight scenes and slapstick comedy/dramatic irony. One of the most intruiging features of this movie, however, if the fact that there is not one appearance of a red dragon anywhere apart from the title. Obviously "New Legend of Shaolin" wasn't jazzy enough for us American viewers... The plot can best be summarized as a vengeful father encountering his enemies, without any real purpose. His motive, perhaps, for seeking his enemies, is his quest to protect five boys with parts of a treasure map tatooed on their backs. Along the way, he runs into a makeup-laden mannequin whose costume is vaguely Greek, a Qing minister, and... oh, yes... an invinicible, slime-covered abomination who drives a silver go-kart! While most of the movie is spent in elaborate fight-scenes (most involving a spear wielded by Jet Li's character), some goes to explaining a rather barren emotional relationship between a father and his son, apparently desensetized to violence. In conclusion, "Legend of the Red Dragon" is a highly enjoyable wuxia, though some viewers will be left wanting a more intelligent script. Recommendations: Twin Warriors, another Jet Li movie with a better plot, and more interesting fight scenes.

Summary: Spear action!
Review: (Review refers to Legend of the Red Dragon version)

What was done right in the film!
I relly enjoyed the atmosphere of this film. It was dark, but had alot of comedic relief. Jet Li does an awesome job fighting with his extendible spear.

The additon of a Kung Fu fighting son really helped open the plot into haveing some nice father son, and kid to kid seqeunces. Jet Li carries himself well in this film, and has a darker demeanor than he does in most of his films.

What was done wrong!
I [think] the villians little armored vehnicle...could have just as easily have been an armored suit or shield, and seemed more believable.

The dubbing was weak. Several of the voice actors had annoying voices, and made stupid jokes. The guy who dubs Jet Li was the exception. He does fairly well.

The dubbing is what really made me give this film only four stars. But if I had to go by Jet Li's spear fights, I'd give it a ten. You'll want to watch those secens again and again.
