Summary: Rare beauty , amzing choreography , excellent cast.
Review: "Moon Warriors" is one in millions. Really. I don't know why it's not recognized as one of the greatest HK films ever made. Such gentle hand as Samo Hung's as a director is very seldom seen. Such perfect corallation between actor and director , as evidenced clearly in the resultant movie , to exist between Samo and Andy Lau , as well as Maggie Cheung and Anita Mui , again , is seldom seen.

The result is simply a breath taking movie made with superb gentlesnes and control , with wonderfull cinematography , excellent plot , acting , and fighting. A memorable one , which you will come back to.

Summary: OUTSTANDING
Review: Andy Lau plays a peasant fisherman with superlative martial arts abilities who aids a usurped Chinese Emperor and entourage (which includes bodyguard Maggie Cheung) who're on the run from the Emperor's murderous sibling. Half a dozen excellent fight scenes courtesy of Sammo Hung Kam Bo and excellent dramatic talent provided by Maggie Chueng (no surprise there) and whoever was playing the Emperors evil brother was a also a forceful pressence both dramatically and in his martial arts abilities. Someone else said that the only people who would like this film are people who never saw a martial arts film they didn't like. Well, Sammo Hung, who directed both the movie and the fight scenes was, in times past, hand picked by Bruce Lee to help Lee with such movies as The Chinese Connection and Enter The Dragon. So who are you going to listen to? An anonymous critic who probably never studied martial arts or Bruce Lee?

Summary: Moon Warriors
Review: Chinese Emperor is kicked off his throne by his evil brother. While on the run from same, the Emperor and his bodyguard (which includes Maggie Cheung) is aided by Andy Lau. While there is a dry spot in the middle of this film during which an entangled love affair is worked out, the film contains some (about 5 or six) very good fight scenes. Maggie Cheung and whoever played the evil brother were both very good dramatically and the fight scenes were top notch. Anyone who says otherwise probably never studied martial arts and doesn't know what they're talking about.

Summary: Superbly entertaining! Action, laughs and plot!
Review: Great fun and super action. The story is a good traditional martial arts plot, but it unfolds in a colorful and fresh manner thanks to great sets and TRULY UNIQUE and LOVABLE charatcters. The fights are great, Sammo's direction is forceful and zany, Maggie Chung is wonderful and the climax boasts one of my all time favorite brilliantly silly movie moments.

Summary: The Most Horrible Martial Arts Film I've Ever Seen!!!!!
Review: I am appalled at the reviews for this DVD. This movie is not only horrible, its so bad, I WOULDN'T EVEN WANT IT IF IT WAS FREE!!! I have to say, I read the reviews on this site and saw that people gave it close to 5 stars, therefore I went and picked it up at Best Buy (it was the special edition DTS version that included the Dolby Digital English dubbed audio). 5 minutes into it, I realized it was the most deplorable martial arts film I'd ever viewed!!! I have been a true fan of "true martial arts films", meaning Shaw Brothers films, for over 20 years!!! It's obvious that the people who reviewed this movie are not!!!

First of all - the picture is horrible!!! I've seen bad VHS tapes that look better. There are occasional vertical lines that show up in the picture throughout the entire movie! Second, the so-called DTS sound is an absolute joke!!! When watching some of the fight scenes, most of the audio would be at a lower volume coming from the center channel, then all of a sudden someone would get hit, and then the volume would go up 5 notches in all of the speakers to an audio clip that sounds completely unrelated to the main soundtrack!!! Third, on the DVD it says that the fight scenes inspired Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace.....BULLCRAP!!! I'm no fan of the new Star Wars films but they sure as hell were better than this movie!!!

What got me was the director who did Hero did this movie - was it his freshman effort? Was it his first film? Was he on crack??? I WOULD RATHER HAVE SOMEONE PLUCK OUT ALL MY EYEBROWS AND RINSE MY EYES WITH ALCOHOL THAN PUT MYSELF THROUGH ANOTHER VIEWING OF THIS ABSURD MOVIE!!

Someone related the wirework to that which was done on Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - SHAME ON YOU....STOP IT!!! It looked like the people who did this wirework were less than 100 pounds and had no concept of REALISM!!! The acting, not to mention the story, was not only laughable, it was PAINFUL!!! I've seen better actors in elementary school plays!!!!!

I think those who thought this was an awesome movie do not know what true DVD, or for that matter, movie quality is, nor are they familiar with fine Asian cinema!! The Hero DVD (DTS Version) is a fine example of what an exceptional marital arts film is!!!

IF I COULD GIVE THIS FILM A NEGATIVE 10 STARS, I WOULD!!! This movie should be banned from being sold and those who gave it a good rating should be fined, bound, gagged and flogged!!!!!

Summary: dissapointing
Review: I gave this movie 2 stars, one for cinematography and the other for nice scenery, other than that this movie hasn't got much to offer.I was dissapointed the most after reading all the reviews about the great swordplay fighting scenes(they were horrid)I don't know what the reviewers were comparring the fights to but after I saw a sword play movie like FIRE DRAGON(a.k.a THE FIREY DRAGON KID) this movie is like watching a bunch of children waving sticks around and calling it action. If you were one of those people who gave this a great review for action than check out FIRE DRAGON and edit your reviews on MOON WARRIORS down a couple stars later.

Summary: Not bad, but not great.
Review: In my opinion, to say that this is one of the best martial arts movie of all time is an overstatement, but to say its one of the worst is hardly believable. The film was magnificently directed by Sammo Hung, an awesom martial artist himself with impeccable directing skills. He managed to make Andy Lau, Anita Mui (R.I.P.), and Maggie Cheung look like they actually know how to handle a sword. Now that's an accomplishment considering they're not all that great at martial arts, and there are several stunt doubles doing the more complicated moves. The story lies around an emperor who is running from his evil brother that is trying to kill him and permanently hold the throne. A village fisherman played by Andy Lau lends the emperor a hand and they become good friends. The emperor is on his way to retreive his supposed-to-be wife played by Anita Mui before she is killed by the brother. A complicated love story involving Andy, the emperor, Anita, and the emperor's bodyguard played by Maggie Cheung takes place. Interesting story indeed, but I have seen better films. The fights in this film are fast and well choreographed, and although there are some wirework present, its not too ridiculous. I enjoyed every fight in this film except the last one in the tomb...watch,its ridiculous. The film itself is pretty violent, but the fighters look so charismatic you sort of get distracted away from the blood. So the story is good as is the fighting and acting, so why only 3 stars? Well, I'd give the movie 4, but the DVD's sound is horrendous. The DTS track is a joke with sounds that just blast out of nowhere and it gets rather annoying. I dropped another star because the makers of the film really wanted the viewers to care about the characters, but during the whole film I didn't care very much at all. With all the mushy conversations, and there are many, it just wasn't enough to really praise this film. Plus I, along with several viewers, thought the inclusion of the killer whale was unnecessary. The scenes with the whale sort of ruined the film. To say that this film is better or close to the quality of Crouching Tiger is really going out on a limb. Crouching Tiger had wonderful cinematography, awesome action, a very good love story, and the characters were interesting. For an all round swordplay movie, Crouching was great, not the best, but great. Moon Warriors is ok, but not something to be praised so highly, and whoever did the sound on this DVD needs a new career. If you want the best version, pick up Moon Warriors from the Hong Kong Legends(HKL) distributors, but you'll need a regionless DVD player to play their region 2 DVDs. They're best for remastering video and audio elements of martial arts films. If you want to check out more swordplay films which I feel are better, then watch Crouching Tiger, Swordsman II (with jet li), Kill Bill (more action than story), and The Hunted (with Christopher Lambert). I know, you must be saying Christopher Lambert from Highlander????!! Take my word folks, this is his best film and the swordplay is awesome. Thanks for reading and check my other reviews for more martial arts recommendations.

Summary: good, but real cheeziee
Review: Moon warriors got a lot of hype, a lot of good reviews. It did have a solid plot that's easy to follow. It did have quite a lot of fight scenes. Cinematography is fantastic -- stunning visual display of mist-filled forests, seaside villages, and underground tombs. Fighting sequences use wire-work, but also plenty of non-wire action, with incredibly acrobatic sword choreography. But, it is definitely one of the cheeeesiest HK films of all time.
