Rating: Summary: Stock up on sticky rice! Review: This is one of the best films to come out of Hong Kong, has exceptional choreography, and bends the horror genre out of all alignment. Add to this a more than adequate transfer add we have an exemplary end product. If you like this, watch "Close Encounters of the Spooky Kind".
Rating: Summary: Hilarious Review: This was one of the funniest movies i have ever seen. The only downside were the white subtitles which were difficult to read at times, but even those couldn't keep me from laughing through the entire movie. I had never seen a Hong Kong style movie before this one but now i am hooked. SEE THIS DVD! Invite some friends and have a great laugh.
Rating: Summary: Look out for the hoping Vampires!!!!! Review: What a fantastic movie. This movie is wonderful entertainment, and I loved every minute of it. When I first read about this movie, it was listed as a martial arts/horror movie, which also had splashes of comedy. After watching Mr. Vampire, that's not the impression I have about the movie at all.
I think it is a strait comedy, w/a little martial arts (mostly at the end), and little to no horror/suspense. It reminds me a little of Transylvania 6-5000 in terms of the type of movie it was, or maybe Monster Squad.
Lam Ching-Ying is the star of the movie. Though I really, really liked him in Prodigal Son, this was by far a superior performance. He nowhere near displayed his martial arts repertoire as he did in Prodigal Son, however his relationship w/his nephew, and student were very similar to his relation to the Prodigal Son. Though he slapped around his nephew and student a lot more in this movie.
This is a must have movie in any DVD collection, a masterpiece. You can definitely feel comfortable purchasing this movie before viewing. Remember what I said though; buy this movie for the story and comedy aspects, not for the martial arts. Despite being produced by Sammo Hung and staring Lam Ching-Ying, they just focused on making a great movie. Mr. Vampire definitely is a fantastic movie, and very entertaining.
