Rumble in the Bronx

Summary: Acting? You've got the wrong movie.
Review: Ok, to start off, I'll just say that Jackie Chan is the only actor in this movie. Luckily, that's quite enough. Outside of fight scenes, he makes use of enough expression to make the dialogue irrelevant. But when he gets down to business, forget everything you once knew about film. There's so much going on in the fight at the gang HQ that a lot of his wow factor can't be absorbed all at once. For example, how does he do a 360 degree spinning jump over a refridgerator and then a turning kick before he even lands? I don't know. The beauty of Jackie Chan movies is that you can almost hear him whispering to you, "Watch this."

Summary: One of his best
Review: I know some people don't like this movie, especially because of the ending. Personally, I love the ending and the hovercraft. The strongest aspect of the movie is the pacing. There is really no slow parts, and the action scenes display some of the best rhythym of any of his movies. Some truly funny scenes, and not just people making funny faces when they are getting hit. It also has the best outtakes. Well worth it.

Review: I'd say this is one of my favorite movies. It may not win any awards, however, it has loads of action from start to finish. There are no dull moments, which is incredibly rare in movies these days. And how about those fight scenes? They are truly amazing, and since Chan does all of his own stunts, they look incredibly real. Most kung fu movies look fake and like acting, where as his actually look like he's brawling it out. I'm amazed every time I see it. And, the movie sort of has a plot. Like I said, it's not an award winner, but it's very entertaining, and when it all comes down to it, that's what counts.

Summary: Not Jackie's Greatest - But ...
Review: I am always surprised when I read rave reviews of this film. I love Jackie Chan and his movies, and though I LIKE this film (it does have some good actions scenes and stunts), it is not up to the standard of his recent Hong Kong ones, especially Who Am I? and now Accidental Spy. The stunts are nowhere near comparable to, for example, the first and last stunt scenes in Police Story I - Jackie at his best. In Rumble, the storyline is basic, merely a frame for Jackie's action sequences and stunts. However, it did what it was designed to do - introduce Jackie to the American market, albeit in a watered-down fashion. And this of course led to Rush Hour and Shanghai Noon - and Rush Hour 2 coming up soon. All this aside, Rumble is an enjoyable Jackie flick and I do recommend it for viewing (whether VHS or DVD). It is a good intro to Jackie and his films, but is by no means his best.

Review: An American box office smash for Jackie, and well deserved too. After trying so hard for so long to break into American markets, he finnaly found the film that would, and after watching it, it's not hard to see why. Buy this movie as it is simply phenominal.

Review: This movie has so much action and a music video at the end. Of course, I do not want to tell you what happens in the movie, but this movie is great. Jackie Chan comes to see his uncle in America and becomes in large trouble. To find out the rest, buy the movie and watch it!

Summary: What a Fun Movie!
Review: I have never been a martial arts fan. I've never had the desire to watch a movie that had anything to do with martial arts. Rumble in the Bronx and Jackie Chan changed all that.

This was the first Jackie Chan movie I ever watched and it took some arm twisting to get me to sit down to watch it. When I did sit down, it was with the attitude that I already hated this movie and Jackie Chan. That didn't last!

Jackie Chan is not your typical martial arts tough guy. He's got an increadible sense of humor and he is able to laugh at himself. That part comes through in all the movies that I've seen him in and it certianly comes through in Rumble in the Bronx. He is also an increadible athlete/stuntman/martial artist! The combination is very entertaining.

Rumble has a cheesey plot and some cheesey acting in it, but it's a great movie and only Jackie Chan could pull it off so well. If the thought of watching a martial arts film is a huge turn off to you, but you like action moves and comedys ... you will not be disapointed with Rumble in the Bronx.

Review: This movie's got all the best aspects of many chan films. It's really exceptional. Jackie did most of the movie on a broken foot wearing the cast under an oversized shoe. He did all the stunts and fights anyway! Incredible dude, jackie chan is. Watch this movie!

Review: Great stunts and action

This isn't one of those movies where an in-depth review is needed - it is a classic Jackie Chan action flick: silly plot, some lame dialogue, and incredible stunts. But Jackie Chan films, (and this was his big introduction feature film in the U.S.) feature terrific action, and make the martial arts into a balletic form. Oh, and Vancouver doesn't double well for the Bronx. Still, a lot of fun.
