Summary: Not too old for this- well, you know...
Review: I've always been an avid fan of the Lethal Weapon films, and after my first viewing of Lethal Weapon 4, it instantly became my favorite of the series. It's rumored to be the last one, and if that's the case, I doubt there could have been a better way to end it than with this outing.

Initially, I didn't think the addition of Chris Rock as Detective Butters to the Lethal fold was a good idea. Although I love his standup acts and some of his efforts on Saturday Night Live, he's always played what I believe are the most annoying characters in feature films, none of whom I particularly cared for. His performance in number 4 was no exception, but this time it worked fairly well, especially during the moments he crossed paths with Joe Pesci's character Leo Getz. Their first meeting was one of the movie's great comedic moments. But their best pairing was the 'Cell Phone Riff' scene, a new take on Leo's 'What they do to you at the drive-thru' gripe from LW2. Chris even had a good ensemble moment with Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Murtaugh (Danny Glover) when they visited a Chinese Mob boss at his dentist's office and questioned him with nitrous oxide 'laughing gas'.

I also caught my first look at Jet Li in this movie, and after viewing many of his other screen performances since my first look at LW4, he's become my favorite martial arts action movie star... well, my favorite living one anyway. His quiet-but-formidable bad-guy role was best displayed when he faced off against both Riggs and Murtaugh in the climactic fight scene which has become my all-time favorite battle royal. Even two-on-one, the odds still looked to be in the bad guy's favor. Could the Lethal pair really be too old for this (stuff)? You'll just have to see for yourself...

Although I consider this 'Weapon to be the most lethal, there's one thing that irks me about the DVD. Cut scenes from the first three flicks are included as part of the Special Features. I don't understand why these scenes weren't restored in DVD releases of Lethal 1-3, like they were for the VHS Director's Cut releases. Maybe one day they will, but until then...

Summary: Blah Blah Blah
Review: If you are a Mel Gibson/Lethal Weapon Fan, this is probably for you. If, on the other hand, you are a Jet Li fan and looking forward to his martial arts wizardry, look elsewhere (Fist Of Legend). This NOT a movie for a Jet-Li fan, but is worth watching.

Summary: Smashing
Review: Lethal Weapon 4 was one of the best Lethal Weapons I have ever seen. The mixture of a serious cop and a carefree cop was hilarious! Mel Gibson and Danny Glover were GREAT! I would recommend this movie to anyone who hasn't seen it yet! Its a show-stopper but a great comedy! A MUST SEE if you like Danny Glover and Mel Gibson

Summary: A movie too far
Review: Lethal Weapon was great, so too was LW2 and LW3 maintained the spark. Sadly/strangely, it looks like the creative team ran out of ideas and no wonder this one is believed to be the last of the series.

An attempt to "soften" the movie with elements of unasked for "moving human drama" detract from the light escapism of the earlier movies. The trend for the writers and actors to take themselves increasingly seriously has now become impossible to ignore and is incongruous in what was never intended to be a serious themed "shoot em up" cop/buddy movie series.

Fans of LW 1-3 will probably watch the movie anyway, as did I, but they'll be disappointed at the end, as was I.

Summary: funny and action packed
Review: I dont know which one is funnier the 1st or 4th. Anyway they both have my vote. Everyone in this film is so very funny, a dry kinda humor, not like austin powers where they over do it. I usually do not like action movies but there was much more to this movie. I think eveyone of all ages would enjoy this movie

Summary: Enough Already!
Review: The Lethal Weapon series should have stopped at the second movie. The last two was just a comedy show to me, and I didn't like how the script sort of mocked the Asian culture with a couple of tasteless jokes. However, I did enjoy watching Jet Li showing unbelievable martial art skills and I am looking forward to seeing more of him!

Summary: TYPICAL HOLLYWOOD HYPOCRACY
Review: Bash the National Rifle Association "poster" in thepolice station, then have every criminal and cop in the movie shootoff a few thousand rounds. Actually, a good action movie if you don't have to think too closely about the realism and Jett is terrific as the bad guy, but leave the Second Amendment alone!

Summary: Better than part 3, but time to retire
Review: This is a great popcorn movie -- funny one-liners, spectacular action, and a screenplay that seems to have been written by a roomfull of monkeys.

Don't get me wrong: I don't come to a LETHAL WEAPON movie looking for great drama or any depth whatsoever. Part 4 knows what it wants to achieve (pure entertainment) and succeeds brilliantly. It's better than part 3, which was lazy and even more narratively incoherent, but I hope this really is the last one (the ending, for once, seems very final). Better the crew should go out while we're still having fun than to belabor the premise with another sequel.

Overall a good show and a nice workout for the home theater. Plus, the DVD includes deleted scenes from the first three LW films as well as trailers. Very cool.

Summary: The Series Is Old (Like The Characters)
Review: This film just doesn't cut it when compared to the 1st 3. Gibson's one liners aren't even as funny anymore. I did laugh at times (such as the scene in the dentist's office) but the series is just tired, and I hope that this is the final "LW" film. The tone of the final scene kind of implied that fact, as did the final credits.

The film would have been better if the producers had hired one of the writers from the 1st 3 films (such as Jeffrey Boam and Shane Black), but they instead chose to hire someone named Channing Gibson who, as far as I can tell, had nothing to do with the 1st 3 films, and he fails to capture the essence of what made the characters so appealing in the other films.

I do have some positive things to say about the film: the final fight sequence between Gibson, Glover, and Jet Li was very well done (albeit gruesome) and Chris Rock was funny.

Certain aspects of this film simply weren't believable. At the top of the list is when the car jumped off of the interstate, drove through a high-story office building nearby, and jumped right back onto the interstate. That may work in a James Bond film or Dukes of Hazzard episode, but not here. I also had a hard-time believing that Glover would take in several Chinese aliens without expecting big-time trouble, which is what he ultimately got.

The DVD is of good quality though. It contains lost footage from the other 3 films as well as 2 documentaries. If it weren't for that, the film would get 2 stars.
