Summary: Wonderful movie.
Review: The comedy, and Jackie Chan's attitude were fantastic in this movie! All of the characters were so likeable. The martial arts are amazing. You even get to watch Ken Lo "Supakicka" fighting Jackie Chan in the final scene. You've never seen legs move so fast. The only thing that would have made this movie better if Anita Mui got to kick some butt.

Summary: Not as good as the original Drunken Master 2
Review: Although I do appreciate them finally releasing Drunken Master 2 on Dvd in the US, they left much to be desired.

The voice acting for this movie was horrible. They could have at least compensated by allowing us to choose between the original Chineses or new English audio tracks and also given us the original english subtitles.

Not only is the voice acting horrible, they changed the ending. I won't give it away for those who have not seen it yet, but personally I liked the original ending much better.

If you haven't seen this movie, I HIGHLY recommend it, however if you are a fan of the original...The Legend of Drunken Master is no Drunken Master 2.

Summary: Drunken Master (2000) DVD and the need for original Chinese
Review: Over the years, I've become a huge Jackie Chan fan, and appreciate that some call him the greatest silent movie star who ever lived. Jackie's forte is the move, the gesture, the expression, the pause... he does not need dialog to carry a scene. This movie is no exception. The trademark Hong Kong fight scenes, with only a minimal amount of wire-work, are breathtaking.

The DVD quality is excellent, with good picture clarity. What's lacking in the No. American (Region I) DVD is the Chinese original soundtrack. I guess the problem has to do with the DVD regional coding system. For this Region I DVD, the track choices are English and French (for Quebec and Louisiana), but not the original Chinese. To me, there is nothing that equals the original language, to get the full expressive nuances of a film. There should be a DVD convention that no matter what the region of the DVD, that the original language should always be provided. This is usually the case with European films (Das Boot is an example), and should also be considered by Asian film-makers, as a way of ensuring artistic integrity -- that the viewer always has the option of seeing the film with its original unadulterated sound track.

Aside from that one issue, I loved this DVD and highly recommend it.

Summary: Good but Ruined (5 stars for the fighting 1 for the audio)
Review: The original VHS version is far superior to this DVD release. The film is identical in all but one respect......THE SOUND!!!. The new musical score isnt a patch on the original and the fighting noises have been ruined and in some fights they are not even there. ie punches connect and there is no sound. If you can find it buy the VHS version. I think the dubbed english translation leaves a lot to be desired also. Its a shame that the orig audio is not included on the DVD. Its not worth buying for any so called DVD extras either.

Summary: !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: Ya know, before I saw this movie, I thought the best fight scenes I'd seen CHan involved in were in MY LUCKY STARS. I read all the critics reviews of this movie and became skeptical when they all heaped praise on it, after all, what do critics know? Let me tell you that this is one of Chan's best movies, if not THE best one. Amazing stunts, impossibly quick fight scenes, and a terrific final battle between Chan and his real-life body guard (he's as fast as Chan, if not faster). If you have read all the way to this review, you know it's good by now right? BUY IT!

Summary: Best Final Fight Scene.......EVER MADE!!!!!
Review: The dubbing is awful. The transfer is amateur. However, the fight scenes are incredible. The final bad guy displays some of the best kicking ability you ever see on film. Being a Tae Kwon Do competitor, my jaw was on the floor when i saw what this guy could do. If you are at all interested in the finer martial arts, BUY THIS MOVIE.

Summary: Subtitles, please!
Review: This film was a major disappointment to me. First of all, even if this is a martial arts film, it should have subtitles. Dubbing in any movie (except maybe something on the level of Godzilla) is unacceptable. Secondly, Anita Mui, who plays Chan's stepmother, is annoying beyond distraction. She ruins every scene that she's in with her vaudeville shtick. I love Jackie Chan and he goes to extraordinary personal lengths in this film to deliver an exciting product. However, the great fight scenes aren't enough to overcome the limp humor that plagues this film. Even Jackie lacks the charm that usually infuses the comedy in his movies.

Summary: Needs original cantonese soundtrack...still worth the buy
Review: I would have preferred for the Dimension films to have included the original soundtrack and include subtitles as well. Its easier to understand and at least we would have the option to do so. I have the DVD of this film and the Original Drunken Master (which even if it is an extremely poor transfer done by a relatively unknown video company) is a much better film for the true martial arts enthusiast. it is also much more funny. The jokes in Legend of Drunken Master (II) are much cheaper and lamer. I reccomend that Dimension release the original Drunken Master but this time with a subtitle option! However the Legend oF Drunken Master is still an excellent movie and is perfect for people just getting into the Martial Arts Genre. Please buy this ! or hope for a copy with subtitles. Excellent film though

Summary: Chan's the Man
Review: I have seen Drunken Master 2 over 50 times and I never get tired of it. It is a true Jackie Chan classic mixed with comedy, and breathtaking kung-fu action. It contains some of the best martial arts fight scenes I have ever seen (and I have seen a lot). If you are Jackie Chan fan, then you will truly love this all-time classic.

Summary: What a Rush!
Review: This movie is without a doubt one of Jackie's most awe-inspiring and spectacular films ever! And, speaking as an English speaker, I'm not such a purist as to be too proud to admit I like hearing it all in English. I own both the subtitled VHS version and the newly dubbed English DVD and there are definate merits to both versions. I would not like to have to do without either one. I personally thought that it was wonderful to have both Jackie and Anita Mui overdubbing themselves. Both are outstanding performers, and to me it added alot to the movie to hear their English interpretations. The new music soundtrack is distinctly more American in feel, which to me added alot to the fighting sequences. Although I missed hearing Jackie singing the theme at the end very much. Overall, I think that they did a pretty good job in the overdub. The reason I subtracted a star is because the DVD is really lacking in special features. The film translates to digital beautifully, and there is a really neat interview with Jackie. Alas, the interview is too short, and I was really hoping for a audio commentary feature, and the original language track to be included. But it is still very much worth the purchase, if you are not completely anti-dubbing.
