Summary: JACKIE CHAN MEETS JOSEPH CAMPBELL IN THE OLD WEST
Review: A long time ago, in a land far away, an idealistic young man's uncleis killed, and he leaves home and teams with a rogueish outlaw (whothinks he's only in it for the money) to rescue a beautiful princessfrom an evil warlord who had rebelled against his master. Along theway he meets different cultures, gets caught in a bar fight, aids arebellion, learns something about the universe...

Yes we have seenthis before, and we enjoy the heck out of it when its done well andwith a spirit of fun (at one point I expected the outlaw to say"Do you think a princess, and a guy like me..."). If therewas ever a movie performer who could bring this spirit of fun to amovie it is Jackie Chan. He has an innocence flavored with just enoughsmarts to let you believe in him and join the ride through hisadventure. Outlaw Owen Wilson's anachronistic fast-talking confidenceis a perfect set-up for the not-quite-successful results of hisendeavors. ...this is a ride. ....and adventure to give them the experience needed to become the oneswho save the day. Our heroes start out as boys with potential, but notyet able to achieve their objectives. This experience helps them togrow and become men, who can then do anything they set their mindsto. As per Joseph Campbell, this is the path of a hero, and what wewant in a story.

In addition, this movie has what we want in awestern. Motifs, concepts, scenarios, even shots are borrowed, swipedand stolen from such classics as "Butch Cassidy and the SundanceKid," "Little Big Man," "Gunfight at the OKCorral," "The Frisco Kid," and "Last of theMohicans." It is all done, however, with a tounge in cheek, awink at the audience, and a funny twist that takes it to a different, humorous, level. And it all goes so fast, and it is so packed withgood stuff, that somehow it seems more satisfying than the standardsatire or parody.

East-meets-the-Old-West has been done before("Red Sun," Toshiro Mifune, Charles Bronson, and AlainDelon; "Samurai," Eli Wallach; the "Kung Fu"series, David Carradine; "Once upon a Time in China andAmerica," Jet Li). This is a worthy addition. It covers much ofthe same ground as the others (fighting and bonding with"Indians," drinking and bonding with the cowboy, relationswith the townspeople, the Eastern martial arts twist on the gunfightand the bar fight), and as with the other traditions (cliches?) of thewestern and heroic genres, it deals with them in a unique and humorousmanner.

To sum up: this movie has a lot. It has the journey of ahero, it has action and adventure, it has a touch of romance, and ithas lots of humor. It does not have lengthy , slow pacedintrospection, or anything slow paced at all. It does have a messageabout loyalty, independence, and self-determination. ....

Summary: Lots of laughs...
Review: This movie had lots of laugh out loud scenes spread thickly throughout. Your typical Jackie Chan stunt/fight scenes with the typical "princess gets kidnapped and Jackie goes to save singlehandedly" plot. Overall a reommended comedy . The crowd I saw it with laughed the whole time and it's good to see the western genre back again ,even if it is a martial arts comedy. What was the last western, 'Unforgiven' 5 years ago? Go see it, you won't be disappointed!

Summary: Very funny movie
Review: This is the funniest Jackie Chan movie I have ever seen. I say this because it is the first American movie he made in which Jackie is the man who makes the audience laugh. "Rush Hour" is very funny too, but Chris Tucker is the one who really made the movie funny. "Shanghai Noon" on the other hand, makes Jackie Chan a class A comedian. I do have to warn those Jackie fans that this is not the typical Jackie Chan movie, there isn't much stunts in the movie, but I think it's about time that he 'slows down' and does more movies in a more comic level. There are still cool fight scenes, so it's not a total comedy. Anyway, I would encourage you to watch this movie, because it's so very entertaining.

Summary: Very Funny Western Spoof!!!
Review: This is a very funny film, the best Western Spoof since 'Blazing Saddles'. The reason why it succeeds is because of it's two charismatic lead actors, Owen Wilson and Jackie Chan. Jackie Chan is a very good martial artists, but his fight sequences are also very amusing and funny at times, that is because he uses all the items around him, he is a great physical comedian; the Chinese Buster Keaton. But the funniest and most likable character is Owen Wilson, he has perfect comic timing and gives a droll comic performance that almost steals the film if Jackie Chan weren't so likable himself. Hilarious and a lot of fun. From a scale of 1-10 I give this film a 7!

Summary: Shanghai Noon
Review: As a *major* Jackie Chan fan, I admit I'm biased when it comes to giving my review of this film, but it really had Jackie's mark written all over it! A comedy/drama, eastern/western-spoof all rolled into one would best describe Shanghai Noon, with a wonderful and humorous side kid, Owen Wilson, never too far away from the action. The audience laughed, yelled, cheered and were surprised, all in the right places! This is by far one of Jackie's best creations!!! Whether you're a big martial arts/Jackie Chan fan or not, you'll love this movie. It's a great night of entertainment for the entire family.

Summary: Does a great job of being a Jackie Chan flick
Review: Some great action sequences, some great laughs, and only a few really dumb lines. I don't think it comes down to how the movie itself stands on its own, but rather, it should be measured as compared to its predecessor's. In that regard, it all comes together quite well. You either like Jackie Chan movies, or you don't. If you do, then Shanghai Noon should not let you down. If you don't know what a Jackie Chan flick is like, then Shanghai Noon would be a good one to watch and find out. It is a good example of a Jackie Chan flick done right.

Summary: Come on now. Jackie Chan's mission is to enterain..he did!!
Review: Come on now..I just finished watching Jackie Chan in Shanghai Noon..I thought the whole thing was hilarious! It was a good movie. Ok, sure the buddy thing was reworked sort of like RUSH HOUR but Owen Wilson is NOT Chris Tucker and the combination worked in this film just like it did in RUSH HOUR! A Jackie Chan movie is supposed to entertain and make you laugh..so sorry for those naysayers but this movie did it's job! Maybe Jackie's trademark stunt work was absent in the film but everything else was first class. I don't know what else to say but just watch it and check it out for yourself. If you're a Jackie Chan fan or not..this was a good movie...Ah well..you can't please everyone but then again...what else do you expect Jackie Chan to do?!
