Summary: Fun movie. Tucker is a tremendous talent.
Review: In both Rush Hour films, actors Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker bring two long-time cult genres - the Hong Kong action picture and the buddy cop comedy - to the masses. And they do so with a style and freshness that escapes most big budget action flicks. Rush Hour 2 finds our intrepid, odd-couple protagonists in the heart of Hong Kong and in the midst of a complex money laundering scheme. As in the first Rush Hour, the plot could use some work, but the fast-paced action sequences are first class, and the interplay between martial-arts superstar Chan and Tucker - who grows funnier with every film - is priceless....

Summary: Entertaining and light.
Review: Jackie Chan is probably to old to do as many stunts as he used to. Good thing he's a decent actor to boot. I can't say the same for Chris Tucker; they should have done what was necessary to get Chris Rock to play alongside Chan. The Ugly American routine got tiresome rather quickly. Mercifully, Jackie was always there to rescue us from it.The movie itself was at least as good as the original. Even though there was plenty of action, it was still suitable for the 10-14 year old boys it inevitably attracts. Rush Hour is a class act, and it reflects Jackie Chan's desire to make more serious movies. I would give the film 3 1/2 stars, but since I can only assign integers as ratings, I will give it the benefit of the doubt and round it to four.

Summary: Worth the money!
Review: This was a very funny movie, probably funnier than the first one. Chan and Tucker make a great duo on screen. With Chan's incredible martial arts, and Tuckers zany mouth, they keep your attention on the screen. The movie also brings several gorgeous women to the screen to give you the eye candy that sells movie tickets! The story revolves around a Los Angeles police officer (Tucker) and a Hong Kong detective (Chan) together in China on vacation until an explosion at the United States embassy kills two people. They are thrown into the case to help solve the crime. Their adventures take them from Asia to LA to Las Vegas in search of the Triads and a counterfeiting ring. This one is worth the money!

Summary: Not just a guy movie
Review: Having never seen Rush Hour, dismissing it as a 'guy' action flick, my husband took me to see Rush Hour 2. I went to catch a few Vegas scenes but was pleasantly surprised by the movie. Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker make a great comic action team. They offset each other making them not take themselves too seriously!

Summary: excellent action/comedy
Review: I havent had such a good time in the movies for a long time. I was laughing all the way through. It is a very well made, lighthearted action/comedy, well in the Jackie Chan tradition that does not make the mistake of taking himself seriously, unlike other people (ie Van Damme, Seagal, etc). Apart from the excellent humour, the most important thing is the chemistry between Chan and Tucker, which makes the movie great, in fact, it looks as if they were having a lot of fun making the whole thing. It is definitely better than the first one, and were all waiting for the third. This is entertainment!!!

Summary: Fantastic Summer Fun!
Review: I don't know what it is about "Rush Hour 2" that gives me this great feeling whenever I see it. It just makes me smile for an hour and a half, and I mean that. Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker are back to fight some very bad guys in "Rush Hour 2". Basically, it's about a year or so later, and Carter (Tucker) and Lee (Chan) are now in China, cruising the streets. But, one thing leads to another, and they're after bad guys again, this time trying to stop a counterfit scheme that leads them from China to L.A., and then to Las Vegas. But, when you go to see "Rush Hour 2", you aren't going for the story, you're going to see Chris Tucker crack some jokes and Jackie Chan crack some necks. Anytime Chris Tucker is on screen, you are guarenteed to laugh. I personally never stopped laughing. Plus, for anyone who is into martial arts, watching Jackie Chan is just amazing. He is a great stuntsman and action star. Together Chan and Tucker are the perfect action-comedy duo since Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. I liked "Rush Hour 2" so much, I went back and sw it for a second time and I still laughed. I actually took someone who is french and barely spoke english and they loved it as well. And the best part is that it's a movie for everyone. So make a date, and take the family to go see "Rush Hour 2". I guarentee you'll like it!

Summary: Americanization hampers chan's genius
Review: Fans of jackie's foreign films have been spoiled by the intense
fight scenes he and his stunt-team are capable of orchestrating.
Some may speculate that jackie has slowed down with age, gotten
soft, or too affluent to risk life and limb for film. He's proven
himself in the past countless times and is just taking it easy
now. Of course he's slowed down. Of course he's got more years
of bone twisting antics behind him than ahead of him, but he's
not as slow as this film depicts him. Compare what he did in im-
port movie gorgeous to the origional rush-hour which preceded it
to assuage any doubts. Unfortunately for jackie and us, hollywood
finaced projects shall never afford him the freedom to compose
the comedic action sequences which make him a kicking legend. He
always speaks of how he and his stunt-team are black-listed from
the ledgers of all insurance companies. They simply resign them-
selves to make the most innovative fights and stunts possible as
they accept the financial burden of injuries that may occur to
the crew. That doesn't fly in america. Major studios must adhere
to unions and comply with regulated safety codes that meet the
requirements of the mandatory insurance for actor's and crew.
Studios are becoming more lenient with actor's performing their
own stunts, but are no-where near their overseas counterparts.
Jackie's two decade plus expertise in fight execution is neutered
by protocol of conglomerates who don't want any lawyers digging
in their flushed pockets. Even knowing all of this going into this film didn't prepare me for how horrible it is. Finding holes
in the script is pointless in this sort of film. You shouldn't
expect layered characters or an inventive storyline. You should
expect a laughs and melliflous duels which make you wish rewinding a scene was possible. Chris tucker is given the task of
mandatory ad-libbing to fill the holes of the script and make up
for jackie's limited english( not a slam, he speaks infinitely
better english than I do mandarin or cantonesse) skills. Tucker
is only funny on an average of 1 out of every 10 attempts. His
failure isn't completely his fault. Ratner's willingness to allow
him to fail miserably in his endeavor to chuk out energetic im-
provisations as if he were eddie murhpy in 48hrs. meets axl foley
is atrocious. Tucker isn't murphy, and even if he were he'd still
need a tolerable script, and more verbal freedom than the fiscal friendly PG-13 safety net offers. Ratner either over-estimated
tucker's ability, or was prescient enough to realize that it
wouldn't hurt the box-office. Jackie's desire to succeed in america has resulted in films that aren't even worthy of him making a cameo. I don't think he's trying to cash in. He's just
trying to do what he loves for the biggest audience possible.
Hopefully all of his neo-phyte fans will dig into his archives
and seek out his future foreign produced works.

Summary: a rushed effort
Review: The biggest problem with 'Rush Hour 2' isn't how annoying Chris Tucker has become (and he has become annoying, degenerating from a loudmouth with a chip on his shoulder and something to prove that annoyed other characters to a loudmouth with a big ego that annoys the audience), or how few and far between Jackie Chan's fight sequences are (which, while breathtaking, seem almost obligatory), or even how implausible the whole premise is. All of these could have been easily fixed. Instead the underlying cancer in this film is how little effort seems to have been put into the film's creation. Perhaps everyone got a little cocky after the original made so much money, but you get the feeling watching 'Rush Hour 2' that everyone was just going through the motions. Writer Jeff Nathanson (the guy who penned the original) delivered barely half of a real script, his dialogue consisting of elaborate schemes to reverse many of the great lines from the original. And director Brett Ratner doesn't do the film any favors by jumping from one locale to the next, as if a $90 million budget is the only reason he needs to shoot at three different locations.
The story isn't important here, you'll probably recognize it as a cheap copy of so many comedy crime films (think 'Lethal Weapon'). Chris Tucker doesn't start acting (or pretending to act) until 75% of the film has passed, and Jackie Chan, believe it or not, looks bored most of the time. Their characters, who previously had histories and motivations and depth that we could identify with, are now nothing more than caricatures of their respective races, rather than real people.
This should have been an easy movie to make. All Ratner really had to do was everything he did in the first one, only in Hong Kong. He doesn't even try.
Ultimately, it can't decide what it wants to be, or where it wants to be, for that matter. It doesn't have enough fighting to be a kung-fu movie, it doesn't have enough comradery to be a buddy movie, and it isn't funny enough to be a comedy. But, it does have enough sloppy film making to be an absolute mess, changing tones more often than locales.
Bottom line: save your money. Rent 'Shanghai Noon'.

Review: RUSH HOUR 2 (2001, PG-13= Martial Arts Action Violence, Some Profanity, Crude Humor and Brief Sensuality) The Cast: JACKIE CHAN, CHRIS TUCKER, DON CHEADLE and ZHANG ZIYI. The Genre: Action/Comedy/Sequel The Plot: Continuing where the first film left off, Detective Lee (Jackie Chan) and L.A.P.D. Officer Carter (Chris Tucker) are on their vacation in Hong Kong. But disasters chop the sushi when Lee gets involved on a case chasing Chinese money frauds! So Carter is also pulled into the case to stop the gang from trading fake cash! From Hong Kong, to L.A., to Vegas- Carter and Lee leave a trail of action and non-stop hilarious adventure! What Works: Great comic fun, and those same hip characters- Jackie & Chris who are still kickin' from the first! The fresh new jokes and action are excellent! Jackie's awesome stunts, as well as Chris's hilarity make this one great sequel with a plot that just sounds like it would be funny on its own! Some of the funny things from the first, like Carter dissing the Beach Boys- turn around in this sequel which are just too funny! The script was well done as was the direction from returning director Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, The Family Man, Money Talks). What Doesn't: Carter sometimes missing out on the action when he should've been there. A lot of the racism remarks weren't needed, while funny, they weren't really needed. Reality Check: Jackie Chan sliding through that cashier's slot seems impossible, but he really did do that as his own stunt! The Catch: There is some profanity and crude dialogue used for humor in this film, but there isn't as much as the original had. OVERALL: "This highly enteraining summer sequel smash is a sure delight to all audiences who are fans of great action comedies. Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker make the ultimate duo!"

Summary: Quite a surprise!
Review: I liked Rush Hour 1, but I didn't think that it was THAT great! I mean a fine combintation, the action god Jackie Chan and the comedic antics of Chris Tucker. For a one time thing only i thought it worked pretty well...then they came up with a sequel, I was so sure it would be a disastrous one. Surprise, surprise! i loved this movie even better than the first one! The jokes were better, the action sequences were better and even the storyline was better! if you wanna movie to watch and a have a REALLY GOOD laugh, then this is the movie for. I think the chinese/american integration in this movie did more justice to the idea of such a combination than did the first one!
