Summary: A genre exercise for die-hard fans only.
Review: According to the prerelease hype for FREDDY VS. JASON, this was the film fans of the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and FRIDAY THE 13TH series had been waiting years to see. Given that the end product is about as forgettable as most of the entries in those franchises, perhaps the publicity flacks were right; FREDDY VS. JASON certainly won't make an impact on anyone else.

FREDDY VS. JASON is a product aimed strictly at splatter fans familiar with both the horror series. Thanks to director Ronny Yu, this film looks worlds better than its '80s counterparts, but it has the ramshackle construction typical of any entry from that period. To begin with, FREDDY VS. JASON is painfully dependent on the audience's knowledge of everything that's come before. That's sixteen films worth of continuity. A brief voiceover from blade-fingered Freddy Krueger at the movie's outset makes a token attempt to get neophytes up to speed, but it will likely engender more confusion than clarity.

Apparently the child-molester and murderer Freddy Krueger, trapped in some undetermined afterlife (if it's Hell, the film doesn't say), wants another shot at the nubile teens on Elm Street. To this end, he coaxes a dead/sleeping Jason Voorhees out of his grave to inspire fear among the now-complacent teens. It's a simple premise, but horror films have been constructed on less. The problem is that it doesn't have much of "versus" quality to it; Freddy and Jason are working more or less together.

FREDDY VS. JASON has the usual slasher-movie cast of attractive young men and women, most notably the exquisite Monica Keena as the obligatory virginal heroine. Also typical of the genre, it's only after a seemingly interminable amount of time spent hashing out the soap operatic relationships and issues of these teens that anything actually happens. Fully half the picture unspools with minimal action, including a pointless subplot about an unsolved murder (still not resolved by the end of the movie), before we get down to business: Freddy fighting Jason.

As mentioned, Ronny Yu knows how to make a good-looking movie. His production doesn't skimp on the blood or breasts, which makes FREDDY VS. JASON somewhat unusual these days. However he's hobbled by a script that ultimately goes nowhere. Yes, Freddy and Jason square off in both dreamland and the real world, but since both are unstoppable, unkillable monsters, there's no way to have a genuine resolution. It doesn't help that we so much time hanging around a group of mostly unlikable teens and listening to their problems that the audience is bored stiff by the time the slugfest begins.

Despite a development period of more than ten years, and the efforts of a like number of screenwriters, the filmmakers behind FREDDY VS. JASON never seemed to have figured out how to make the movie interesting. The title makes for a great high concept, but what happens outside the titular battle? As it turns out, not much. Director Yu does his best to put a glossy sheen on the proceedings, and even freshens up the gore by incorporating Japanese-style spraying wounds (don't ask), but in the end there's really nothing worthwhile going on.

Summary: Freddy-Jason Knock out!!!!
Review: This movie totally rocks!!! I have not seen any of the nightmare on Elm Street series or Friday the 13th movies, but this movie can explain and summerize all of the movies together so you can understand it!!! You shouldn't even spend [$$$] for it on PPV. You should buy the [$$$] DVD!! It's really that cool!!!! But take notice that, if your not mature for the EXXXXTREMME amounts of blood and gore...you should not see it. Also if you love comady and horror you must definatly see it!!!!!!! The people who say that this movie is a 1 star movie is beacause either, they can't take the extreme amount of gore and blood, or they are just to stubborn to mix comady with the 2 mega killers Freddy and Jason. Anyways, I think they need to mix a little comady in them anyways. So if you're board, you should go and see this movie.

Summary: Gruesome, Gory, Down right INSANE! AWESOME MOVIE!
Review: A must see. Enough blood in this movie to make up the Atlantic and Pacific ocean! Freddy kicks Jason's ass, but in the end it's the big man comin' out on top. Would've been better if Jason got a few more hits in on Freddy, and if Freddy killed MORE THAN 1 PERSON! THAT WAS THE SAD THING. He killed that one guy in his house and Jason took care of the rest. Otherwise, scary and funny as hell and definitely one of my favorites of 2003.

Summary: The DVD is great.
Review: The movie is quite good and the DVD is great. The commentary is entertaining and it made me laugh quite a bit. There are some good promotional videos and featurettes to check out and other misc material. There's no real criticisms for this release that I can think of so if you're a fan of the movie, I'm sure you'll love the DVD. Just be thankful you don't live in Australia because our version of Freddy vs Jason only has a trailer for extras (that's why I bought the region 1 version from Amazon).

Summary: NOT BAD AT ALL
Review: I wonder if Betsy Palmer, Kevin Bacon, or John Saxon ever dreamed the movies they made way back in the 80s would have spawned so many sequels, ultimately ending up with FREDDY VS. JASON. Wow...I remember when I saw the first Nightmare film how blown away I was (even for a mid-20's slacker!). Friday the 13th has always been the movie to see how many teenagers can get hacked while having sex. Combining Freddy and Jason was inevitable. I found myself rooting (?) for Jason, only because his dementia started from being abused by fellow kids; Freddy has always been evil, killing kids, etc., etc. So when you have two really evil guys going at it, who will win? The ending comes as no surprise, but getting there is a blast.
I jumped at least six times, so the suspense ratio was great..and there's always been something so eerie about being killed in a dream...
The cast? Lochlyn Munro, so funny in SCARY MOVIE, is his usual studly self; Kelly Rowland as Kia shows some potential, and Robert Englund will always be a marvelous Freddy!
The movie has some dark moments and there is plenty of gore for all you gore gluttons!
It's probably time, though, to put these guys to rest...they've certainly lived longer than I ever thought they would, but anything new would just be old!!!!

Summary: Fairly Entertaining
Review: Let me break it down in a nutshell. Freddy/Jason is a clear attempt that the failing film industry is grasping at straws to get people into the theaters. We all know this film makes no sense because Freddy isn't even real and Jason is supposed to be some reincarnated/walking corpse so how the heck would they even cross paths unless a desperate script made it so?

The plot is as simple as one gets: Poor little Freddy has lost his power. The teens of Elmstreet don't dream about him anymore. In fact no one even talks about him. It's because of this that Freddy reaches into the depths of hell to find someone as equally frightening as he is to bring back the pain: Jason Voorhies. Freddy's plan backfires when Jason begans killing everyone for himself. Thus begins a bloody battle between the two kings of evil. Sounds exciting? It is really...but there are huge disappointments that can't be ignored.

The actors are horrible. You got a school full of thirty-year olds trying to play teenagers. The lead actress who played ( Lori ) cannot act if her life depended on it. She ruined most of the movie for me. Once again we see the blond girl with the overlapping boobs cry and moan for two hours. Yawn, been there, seen that right? The only character that brought a spark was Kia ( the black chick ) who ends up getting whacked at the end of the film. The setting was too dark and blue. I guess it was to hide the effects and strings better. The scenes were quick but the deaths looked fake. Sorry but that much bloodshed lessened the effect. Less is more.

This film is strictly for Freddy and Jason addicts. If you aren't one and are just curious about how things end, you may enjoy this film. This is probably the best of both worlds. Freddy has never been better and Jason hasn't been this frightening since the second Friday The 13th film. So you definitely get these two beasts at their bests and watching them go at each other is incredible. Just don't expect more from the supporting actors. They are obviously there just to move the pitiful plot along.

Be warned: there is already a sequel in the works. My guess is it will also include Mike Meyers. Now that's where the action really is!

Summary: LLLETTSSS GET READYYY TO RUMBLLLLLEEE!!!!!
Review: imagine what would happen if Muhammed Ali and Lennox Lewis were to get in the ring and slug it out when they were at their absolute best... Then Freddy Kruger and Jason Voorhees came in, hacked them to bits and had a fight instead.

if you can, you would be about there with Freddy vs Jason. the build up is a bit slow, having to acquaint newcomers with the franchises (via a cool montage of money shots from the Nightmare on Elm Street movies), and, foolishly trying to build up the human characters, which they should not have done because anyone watching this movie is not the least interested in them unless there are pieces of them flying through the air(which there is quite a bit). but once they give way to the titular smackdown, this movie comes into it's own. and it is holding a big Flukking machete. the fight is full of energy and verve, and is directed with panache by Chucky director Ronny Yu (plus there is the inclusion of some nice metal to accompany the brawl)

book your ring side seats and get out your big foam finger, this is a main event not to be missed
