Summary: Unforgettable
Review: This is absolutely the best movie to be filmed. Ever. I have seen a ton of movies but this was the best. Even though it has a simple storyline, it's a very complicated film. The characters are very well developed, Kurosawa is a born genius. It runs over 3 hours, but it is so interesting that you WILL keep watching it! It has action, humor, suspense and much more. The story is set in the 1600's in a small village. The village is constantly being robbed of their crops by bandits and the townsfolk want to hire unemployed samurai to defend themselves, only giving them food instead of money. Enjoy the film, you will love it.

Summary: The greastest samurai film of all time
Review: For anyone who is interested in samurai epics, or for those who are just looking for a enthralling story, Seven Samurai is just what you need. Akira Kurosawa was a master of his craft, and nowhere is it more evident than in this 1956 masterpiece. It's no wonder Hollywood remade this into a western in The Magnificent Seven. The story is superb, gathering a rag-tag team of ronin together to protect a helpless village from brigands. The visuals are phenominal, even considering the period in which it was produced, and the sound is great. One slight downside to this DVD is that it only comes with a mono Japanese soundtrack, so you'll have to read subtitles for three hours, but trust me, it's well worth it.

Summary: Well worth your time
Review: All I can say is this is one of the best movies ever put to film, and there were no boring moments. It has everything a good movie should have, drama, sword fights, adventure, and a good plot. The storyline is simple - A poor village recruits samurai to help defend themselves. But there's much more to it than that. The movie is roughly 207 minutes, but the time will pass so quick it will seem like only 30 minutes. And you'll get to see the legendary Toshiro Mifune, one of the greatest actors of all time. Rating - A+++++++++++

Summary: The best movie I've ever seen
Review: This 300 minute movie was truly one of the longest I've had to sit through, but time passed so quickly after watching this film. I was completely glued to the screen to this 1954 classic. This is in Black & White format, and with english subtitles, and if that's the reason you wont watch it, you're missing out on one of the best movies of all time. You MUST go and watch it if you still haven't. The movie contains plenty of battles, and an interesting plot. I think it's safe to say it's the best movie I've ever seen. (And believe me I've seen a lot of movies) ;) Movie acting score - A Movie plot score - A+ It's not rated yet, but I'd rate it PG-13. Enjoy the movie!

Summary: Greatest Story of All Time
Review: A very long movie, but worth every minute of it. If you enjoy drama, suspense, samurai fighting, this is the film for you. One village being threatened by bandits seeks help from some samurai, but have nothing to give but 3 bowls of rice a day and a place to get out of the cold. Seven men take on the task of defending the village, and in return discover some interesting thing. Watch and find out what happens, you'll enjoy it, but set aside a day to watch it.

Summary: Am I too young for this??
Review: I'm a 22 year old movie buff. As such, I don't really have a frame of reference for this movie because I grew up with special effects-laden, plotless "epics" that seem to always fall short of their scope. I didn't think there was any way I could connect with Seven Samurai, a movie made 50 years ago. Luckily, I was very wrong! This movie is amazing. Although I love movies with huge battles (Two Towers and Braveheart, for example), there was something refreshing about watching a climactic confrontation between less than 100 people. The movie is more intimate and dramatic because you get to know almost ever character who is fighting. You care about everyone and it actually affects you when someone is killed. The acting is great and the character development is impressive. The parallel stories of love, honor, family dynamics, etc work perfectly with the overarching tale of a fight for a village. Some of the scenes and vistas are surprisingly stunning, even in black and white. I definitely think that this movie has to be approached with a certain perspective to really be appreciated by someone my age, but it definitely rewards! It is truly worthy of it's place at the forefront of Japanese (and world) cinema.

Review: When thinking of great action samurai movies the first on anyone's list should be Akira Kurosawa's epic Seven Samurai. This classic is a film masterpiece by which all other movies should be judged. It has everything that movie go-er could ever want, plot, action, dialogue, cinematography, talent performance to name a few. Whether you're a long time samurai movie fan or one who doesn't know the difference between a nazakashi and a nunchaku this movie should be in everyone's collection.

Summary: The Greatest Action Movie Ever
Review: "Seven Samurai" works on so many levels - technically, emotionally and dramatically, it easily transcends "black and white, subtitled, foregn film" status into one of the most exciting, universal and influential films of all time. There are layers upon layers to this film - so many, in fact, the viewer has his choice. "Seven Samurai" is about war, class systems, post WWII Japan, individualism vs. conformity, good vs. evil. Its a Samurai flick, a coming of age picture, the model for numerous 'westerns' (most obviously "The Magnificent Seven"), and an oft borrowed well of techniques for modern directors (from Spielberg to Lucas to Coppola). "Seven Samurai" is a film without any fat, without filler. Despite its 3 1/2+ hour length, there is little, if any, thrown away. Each of the samurai (as well as the villagers and bandits as a whole) is an archetype, yet it is Toshiro Mifune who steals the movie with one of the greatest, most energetic and dynamic performances ever given on film. And the direction of Akira Kurosawa is nearly flawless (a single technical mistake is pointed out in the the commentary). Among the standouts on the DVD:
*The fully restored, nearly 4 hour version of the film
*The outstanding solo commentary to the film which points out not only the technical brilliance of the film, but the bios and history of many of the actors and in-depth analysis into both Kurosawa and Mifune "Seven Samurai" is a remarkable adventure that is more appreciated with each viewing. Highly recommeded!
