Review: Seven Samuari was the first Japanese movie I have even sceen, and what a way to start. I have been a fan of japanes animation, and culture for while and I decided to try live action. I was take in comlety by this beautiful storie and since have been a die hard fan. Akira Kurosawa's work is truly at it's best in this movie. The way he makes this less aobut war and more aobut the how farmers and the samuari lives are effected. i think this film shows how samuari wer ment to be, defenders of those in need, the touching way they defend this village at the risk of their lives for nothing more then a hand full of rice for meals. How the villagers are willing to risk everything to save what they have worked so hard for. How the villager fear the samuari at fist then grow to accpet them but know not to get close for the risk of losing them in the battle is great. I really can not convey how beautiful this movie is in these sort words. All I can say is if you do not see this move then you are a fool, and you are denying your self one of the greates cenamatic masterpieces ever created.

Review: i first got to see this movie when i was around 7-8 years old. back then i remember that most of the shows, if not all, on tv were black and white. i particularly enjoyed the samurai movies with toshiro mifune. this was no exception. seven samurai is truly a classic which anyone will enjoy. "divide and conquer" and "teamwork" are some ideas one can learn and apply in the battlefield of life.

Review: I'm technically not a samurai movie fan. The topic always seemed much too foreign for me to understand, and I've always had no desire whatsoever of seeing such a movie. But after reading all the superlative reviews about this film on this site and elsewhere, I decided to plunk down $30 and buy myself a samurai movie. And am I ever glad I did! Seven Samurai absolutely blew me away with its wonderful imagery and its lively story-telling. Despite clocking in at a lengthy 207 minutes, the story never drags and there's never a dull moment (there is an intermission halfway through, so plan your bathroom break for then...you *really* won't want to miss anything). The story is simple but told with such grace and perfection. It has all the necessary elements of a great classic movie: drama, violence, romance, and even comedy! Director Akira Kurosawa really brings forth a ton of emotion with this movie, and it's absolutely unforgettable. The battle scenes will have you on the edge of your seat without all the graphic gore that's too common in today's films. But the movie is actually much more than battles: it's about the sacrifices some people make for others and how life isn't always fair. There's a lot of psychology in this film. Before you know it, you can't help but love and admire these seven samurai. This purchase was also my first Criterion Collection DVD, with which I'm also very impressed. The restoration was marvelously executed and the resulting print is crisp and clear; other than for being in black and white, you'd never guess it was made in 1954. The optional English subtitles are easy to read and benefit from a modern vocabulary and phraseology. The audio commentary from Japanese film expert Michael Jeck is extremely enlightening and informative. Not only does he explain Kurosawa's direction and scene/angle/lighting selections, but he also provides some historical background that helps "flesh" out the story for those of us who are unfamiliar with samurai films and Japanese history. A very worthy purchase. Get this one before it goes out of print!

Summary: The Seven Sammurai : The Savage Poetry Of Kurosawa
Review: Movie lovers will always argue what the best movie ever made was and sometimes its just apples and oranges. But when I watched The Seven Sammurai for the fifth time I again found many new images or details I hadn't remembered before, how striking each image is, how vivid and telling each detail is. Forget about subtitles. Kurosawa, like most great artists,shows us things with the camera not with the dialogue, although he can do that to. Much has been written about this masterpiece. Suffice it to say that I admire it for its surging energy, deep-focus black and white photography, for the high spirits and energy of its actors, and if there were any director who who could conduct the elements, it is Kurosawa. The battle scenes are justifiably famous and the climactic battle in the rainstorm has been much imitated but never surpassed, so full of power and noise, speed and passion, that it very nearly jumps off the screen, whether at home or on the broad screen. Ok, back to the first question about the greatest movie of all time. The Seven Smmurai stands there, along with the late Kurosawa, in deep focus.

Summary: Magic of Kurosawa !
Review: I love Akira Kurosawafs movies. Especially Seven Samurai, I donft know how much time I watched and enjoyed it. You may think it strange, but every time I found something new and energetic in this film. Although the story of this is supposed to be in during 16 century in Japan, every characters in this movie are not seemed to be fictional ones but absolutely close and real to me. And I remember that one Japanese movie critic said all samurais in it have nice faces. I think hefs right.Compared with current Japanese actors, actually they themselves donft look so nice. But in this Kurosawafs masterpiece they are really cool. Those samurais are hired to protect the villagers from the bandit, and only for eating enough rice-food everyday, but in the fighting scene they seem to fight not for it but for their dignity. For example I feel no misery when seeing the death of Kyuzo, the strongest samurai but finally killed by gun shooting during the terrible fighting in heavy rain. He never stopped fighting even just after being shot. I suppose he never had fought for rice but for his samurai sprit. It was the most impressive for me. I sometimes saw this actor, Seiji Miyaguchi in some movie or drama, it was quite strange that he didnft look so nice as he was in seven samurai. And as to the other actors, same things were happened to me. That definitely depends on the magic of Kurosawa Every time when I finished watching this, I can get something encouraging me as a male. Ifm not sure what it is, but that might be the power of Kurosawa Ifm really happy to watch Seven Samurai as a Japanese man and I believe Seven Samurai is the one of the most great films in the world.
