I wasted my time watching "Gangs of New York" last night only to have it blown out of the water by this simple, undoubtedly cheap to make, film. With all the money Hollywood has at its disposal, it can't make movies as good as those made with a good idea and a little inspired effort.
Even if you find that you can rent this DVD, just buy it now because you'll want to see it more than once for sure. Leave it on the shelf.

Summary: quiet, beautiful film
Review: A loud, careless seven-year old city boy is left with his ancient country grandmother for several weeks while his mother looks for work in Seoul. This story is the slow developing of a relationship between the two, as the woman takes any abuse the boy gives with quiet patience and the boy gradually comes to respect and even love her.
The shots are quite beautiful, with visuals often communicating as much as the words, and the setting in the countryside of South Korea is lovely. I thoroughly enjoyed the film as well as learning a bit about the country. DVD extras are non-existent. The film can be heard in Korean with optional English subtitles.

Summary: Beware the crazy cow
Review: An understated movie that have a bunch of memorable one liners. If you've seen this, it's quite impressive that an incredibly low budget movie will blow away things costing 100 times more over here. The kid does a great job of acting, as I found myself wanting to shoot him from annoyance.

Summary: Poignant, moving...
Review: At first, the characters seem stilted, unemotional and uninvolved. But I think that we in the West are used to different cinematic styles, we seem to expect emotional extremes of passion, anger, hate, love, etc. - I think its perhaps because Americans have short attention spans (no insult intended). But I've noticed in many foreign films, the plot-lines and characters are much more low-key. Subtlety seems key in watching foreign films. In this context, "The Way Home" is powerful in its low key way. Really, this story is about love and transformation. A grandson goes to the countryside to live with his grandmother. Initially he is spoiled, vindictive, and in some ways cruel to his mute grandmother. But in her beautiful way, his grandmother despite being mute, poor and vulnerable is strong and loving. What wonderful qualities! She goes to lengths for her grandson, so far that she spends what little money she has to buy a chicken for him even though in the end he is not pleased since it is not KFC style chicken! Regardless, the film ends with the grandson realizing that he has been given something precious. While I'm not sure that he ever lost his spoiled ways, he gains a certain respect and love for his grandmother. Truly, I was moved to tears, despite wanting to smack the little boy over the head at times. This film is time well spent!

Review: Beautiful scenery shots, simple but poignant storyline, this film is a glimpse into another world. Don't expect to be pleasantly lulled away into the story though, you'll find yourself getting very angry at certain parts. Keep the phone and the Kleenex nearby, you'll be calling your Gram as soon as the credits roll.

They each learn some hard lessons before their time together ends, in a way that breaks your heart. Perhaps some of our modern children should see this to get a glimmer of reality.

Review: I can't say enough about this movie. Someone passed it along to me and I cried and even laughed. This movie grabes at the heart and you can't help but think of your own Grandmother. I have a better appreciation for the simple things in life. This is a simple movie but it leaves you thinking about it long after you have watched it. Once you see this film you will want to tell everyone you know to watch it. There's nothing like it, a true gem.

Summary: A little giant
Review: I rented two movies one day, one was this and the other was called Attacks of Clones, SW2. This one was low-budgeted, but very emotional and related to everyone who watched this to someone special in their memory. The other was megabucks made and no emotion involved in entire two hours playing. Watching it was just like playing video games. You wonder why kids today go wrong with all the hours spent on their video games.

Review: I saw this film at 5am on the Saturday before Easter Sunday. What a wonderful experience it was. It shows how our older people should be honored and how this particular child came to know how really awesome it is to have a grandmother. This is not some sacrine sweet hollywood tear-jerker, but a well crafted film with deep meaning. There is much food for contemplation in this film, and although it is not a 'Christian' film per se: it is one of the most inspiring films I've seen this year. Everyone should see this film! It really makes you think.
